Updating Control On Another Form With Results Of DialogBox
Feb 29, 2012
I made a windows form which contains a listbox (named VenueList). The listbox is pulling it's values from a list provided by a binding source VenuesBindingSource which is pulling in a ID for the value and a name for the text. There is a button which is causing a DialogBox to appear which is asking for values to store in the database for a NEW venue. Once the values are filled and insert the database, what's supposed to happen is that the dialog box closes and goes back to the original form which invoked it.
However, instead of updating the list. The list stays the same. But if you close the form and reopen it, you see that a new value was added.
TournamentSettings.VenuesTableAdapter.InsertVenueQuery(Trim(VenueNameTxt.Text), Trim(VenueAddress1Txt.Text), Trim(VenueAddress2Txt.Text), Trim(VenueCityTxt.Text), Trim(VenueProvinceTxt.Text), Trim(VenueZipTxt.Text), Trim(CountryBox.SelectedValue), Trim(VenuePhoneNo.Text), VenueType.SelectedText, VenueWebAddress)
TournamentSettings.VenuesTableAdapter.Fill(TournamentSettings.VenueNameList.Venues)
In the above code, InsertVenueQuery is the name of a query from the designer which is invoked to add the values onto the tableadapter VenuesTableAdapter which is used to fill the combo box on load. I also sent the Fill command to refill the table with the new value. So the question is, should I go about doing this another way, rather than feeding the Table adapter and sending a fill command on to the datatable? Or is there something that I'm not doing here which I should to force that value into the list. I'm tempted to redo everything outside of the designer but that's a lot of code since I have to essentially run two commands (one to insert the data, and another to get the @@IDENTITY value since this is run on an access database.)
I am trying to create a Messagebox/dialogbox that will allow me you Define the Prompt and the text for the two buttons. I started by looking around the internet and found [URL]. It got me started But i don't think i have the libraries to make the stackoverflow.com code work. i don't know enought about events to make the box always have the focus untill it is closed or one of the buttons is pressed. I would also like to return the button.text of the button that was clicked.here is the little code i have
Public Class DialogBoxForm Private _ButtonName1 As String Private _ButtonName2 As String
i am receiving data from serial port and i update a richtextbox in a MDI Form with the control.invoke method
(Code in SerialPort.DataReceived Event)
If myTerminal.Visible Then myTerminal.MyRichTextBox1.Invoke(New MethodInvoker(Sub() myTerminal.MyRichTextBox1.AppendText(dataLine & vbCrLf) End Sub)) End If
But as a mdi form it has the ability to close and reopen. So when the serialport is sending data to richtextbox and the user click the close button and the form gets disposed. Then the error "Invoke or BeginInvoke cannot be called on a control until the window handle has been created."...
I am new to dotnet. I have an application with one login screen and three other screens. On login user can go to any of the other three screens by selecting the options. On all three screens i have a Picture box which i need to update the Image every one minute based on some logic.
I am trying to update one table with results from another table as such: Table A (field, type) : Table B ID (key) Integer : ID (key) Integer ParentID Integer : IssueID Integer Number String : ParentID Integer : Number String
I need to construct and UPDATE statement that does: Sets B.IssueID = A.ID When B.ParentID = A.ParentID AND B.Number = A.Number AND B.IssueID = 0
Here is what I have so far but it is producing an SQL syntax error (missing operator) sqlStr = "UPDATE B SET IssueID = A.id FROM B JOIN A ON (B.ParentID = A.ParentID AND B.Number = A.Number) WHERE B.IssueID = 0
I have also tried sqlStr = "UPDATE B SET IssueID = A.id FROM B, A WHERE (B.ParentID = A.ParentID AND B.Number = A.Number AND B.IssueID = 0)
I am sorry to keep bothering you about this damn DataGridView control ... As you might have noticed I am having a hard time with the DataGridView control ... My latest problem has to do with updating the data base file (Access) through a DataGridView control . Up to now I have managed to successfully edit an entry in the DataGridView control and moreover to successfully update the data base file itself .
The above form and its code work fine . The problem starts when I am trying to run the code of the Update button from another form . You see , I have another form , through which I change the contents of some of the cells in the DataGridView control (back in Form1) . What I want next is to simply update the data base file itself , just like I was doing with the button in the first form , after I manually changed the cell in the DataGridView control .Thus , on the second form I have a button with this code :
Form1.Button1_Click(Nothing, Nothing) (of course the Click event is declared public)I have also tried :
Form1.Button1.PerformClick()
but still nothing ...Although Form2 successfully changes the cells back in Form1 , the data base file itself does not get updated ...If I manually press the Update button in Form1 I once again successfully update the data base file , but I want to do the whole thing by calling the Update button from Form2 .
I have two Datagrids, One grid has all the customers garments on it with style number and contact length. The other grid has the users who have garment issued to them. the style number is in both grids. I need to loop through the users grid and say if the contract number is 1 from the first grid then the contract date on the second grid will be todays date + 365 days (year contract) I have looked at using a stored procedure and also a for each command but I am just getting stuck with it all. [Code]
I have a file that can be saved to a portable device. I would like to know how I could create a DialogBox to select a portable device to save my file to. This is very similar to a save, as DialogBox except the file already exists.Perhaps better said, I need to be able to download to a DialogBox.
VB 2010, Trying add custom colors to a dialog box, save and reload on opening. The "add custom color button" just adds it to the boxes on the left and does not save it for future use. If the user select that color having added it the left you can then get the integer value and add it to the code
ColorDialog1.CustomColors = New Integer () {CustCol1, 16646145, 16580610, 16645891, 16711426, 65536, 6699546} And save for displaying next time. but it does not return the same color.
Why does it return a different color, it displays the correct color when used at the time of saving? Is there no way of saving all the custom colors, if a user puts several in the boxes on the left? You have to make sure you select Basic color first otherwise it changes existing custom color or if you select a blank box you cannot select anything.
When custom colors are added via code as above it goes along the top row first but when you click the "Add custom color button" it adds the first color to first position of the top row and the next to the first position of the bottom row. How to add custom colors to a dialog box, save and reload on opening.
when i click the search button in form1, form2 appears.i get the information i want from form 2 and store it in a variable.when i close form2 and form1 is active again i want this code to run automatically:
Me.userIDsearch = frmUserSearch.NuNameTB Try 'TODO: This line of code loads data into the 'SoftwareLookupDataSet.tbl_software' table. You can move, or remove it, as needed. Me.Tbl_softwareTableAdapter.Fill(Me.SoftwareLookupDataSet.tbl_software)
[code]....
how would i get the above code to run when the focus is back on form1?
They are numerous examples of using SaveFileDialog mainly on simple textboxes. However, I have in my resources an Excel SpreadSheet. I want to allow the use to select the destination where he can save this spreadsheet. He is not allowed to change the name of the file in the filename. Afterwards, I want to copy the file from my resources and save it to the user's selected destination. How can I do that?
I have some Label controls sitting on Panel controls on a Form. I want to get the labels'positions relative to the form's origin so that at run time I can hide the panel and the labels and draw some other text in their place directly onto the form.Basically, I'm doing the following calculation: Get the absolute screen position of a label withControl.PointToScreen() and convert it back to a relative position with
I am calling a function in an external dll to a device that runs some firmware. When I call device_open(), the device driver brings up a Warning dialog box that says there is a newer version of the firmware available. How do I suppress the warning dialog box? I am calling this function during an overnight test, so the dialog box prevents my tests from finishing.
I'm trying to present results on an aspx web page where a store procedure parameter is defined by a dropdown list control on the page. I have followed this guide from Microsoft and have my resultset presented in a DataGrid view. But I cannot seem to adapt it to present the resultset in a chart.
As you can see from my VB code below, I thought it would simply be a case of adapting the GridView databind to a Chart. I have tried various other options, and have successfully generated my data in a chart using a hard-coded parameter in an SQL statement on the ASP page. But when it comes to using the control, I get an empty chart.
Below is what I have so far.
Imports System.Data.SqlClient Public Class Report Inherits System.Web.UI.Page
I'm having a problem with part of my application I'm trying to get the directory entry for a computer object in AD (it could be mutiple computer objects based on whether or not the users passes a wild card for the object name). These names would be added add a child node of the parent node "Computers" in the tree view. I'm just having problems with using the search results...
Private Sub Form2_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Dim parentCNNode As TreeNode = New TreeNode("cn") TreeView1.Nodes.Add("Computers")
I have two forms....Mainform is filled with controls that are databound to a datasource.....then I have a child form that is used to edit data from parent form.......the data that is displayed on the child form uses the Filter() method of the binding source to display data only for the customer selected......
The child form has the standard OK and CANCEL buttons set up as dialog result.......after I edit the content in child form, the changes are displayed on the child form correctly......but when closing the child form and going back to the parent form the changes dont appear there unless I restart the application.....I also tried adding the tableadapter.update/fill method in the 'OK' dialog result event handler and it still doesnt work......
How can I make the changes take effect on the parent form without restarting the application?
I'm having trouble getting controls in non active tabs to update. I have a tab control with 12 tabs. Each tab displays a custom calendar of days for each month. For each of the days I used label controls. Now the trouble im having is when I re-size the window I want the day labels in each tab to re-size accordingly. I have the re-size function written and working but for some reason it will only re-size the active tab. In order for me to have the labels on the other tabs update to the re-size I need to open each tab as to load it then it will update the controls.I've tried putting Application.DoEvents() in my re-size loop but that didn't work. How can I get the other tabs to update / redraw the controls without having to open the tabs first?
I have controls on a form, bound to an SQL data source. The information populates the control well. When I change the text in a bound textbox, I want it to be reflected in the SQL database. When I change the text in the control, the DataSet is updated. Now I need to make the DataSet update the SQL table.
I am trying to update a databse using a grid control, I've enetered multiple rows in the row and tried to save the data, unfortunately I'm only saving the last row entered, is there a way to save all the rows entered using this approach?

Using MSDN documentation on creating Control Arrays in VB.net I proceeded to create a control array based on my UserControl. I modified the code programmatically to Loop through a For-Next loop to create 6 objects using the same UserControl. After creating these objects, I proceed to perform graphics on each control to draw a rectangle of which is in the center of the control by using a Timer_Tick event.
I have a few classes. One of the classes handles everything to do with updating controls (Such as adding items to a listview, etc.) and another is handling loops. I'm trying to add something to a richtextbox from another thread.[code]..
I have some controls in a .net 4.0 form - a listbox and a listview item.I also have another thread in the same class which is checking a host for output. It uses delegates to display all incoming data to a richtextbox - this works fine.If the data has a particular signature it sends it to a parser sub in another module. This module tries to update the listbox and listview items with that data after it has manipulated it.The problem is; no data is displayed and no errors are thrown. If I add a msgbox("Test") after the code, it shows the messagebox. If I add a test messagebox inside the delegate function, it shows the messagebox. If I put the same MainForm.ListBox1.Items.Add("Howdy") in a ButtonTest.Click event it adds it correctly.
