I have this:
vb.net
Private Sub doWork_Tick(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles doWork.Tick
Me.doWork.Stop()
For outer As Integer = 0 To Me.queriedDGV.Rows.Count - 1
For inner As Integer = 0 To Me.hebdataDGV.Rows.Count - 1
Application.DoEvents()
[Code] .....
It works fine when I step through it with F8, but when running normally, I guess it's going so fast that I get an Index out of range when the outer For loop increments to the second iteration. I tried putting a timer in there to give it a chance to update the UI, but that didn't work. I also tried "Application.DoEvents" as a last resort, and that didn't work either.
Is it possible to get the row index of a DataTable so that you can access the previous and next row? For example I have a DataTable that contains two columns ChapterTitle and PageURL. This is for a table of contents of a book. ChapterTitle is the chapter name and PageURL is an HTML page that contains the chapter (chaptername.html). When going into one chapter of the book I want to be able to tell which is the next and previous chapter.
After finding the chapter that I'm currently in how can get the next and previous rows?
ChapterTable.Select("PageURL = '" & PageURL& "'")
How can i get the index of an element in datatable which i got using the select method of datatable as
dim d as new datatable= 'some data source'
dim dr() as datarow
dr=dt.select("some condition")
now i want to find the index of first or second item which i have retrieved in data row. i mean there index in data table with out use of loops as loops take a lot of time when there is huge data in data table.
I have a dataset which I load three tables into from the database. Each of these three tables are related by the AccountNo. On two of the tables I specify this field as a foreign key constraint with the appropriate cascading flags. However when I scroll through the list of companies with my combo box. Only the one table is having its values change on the form whereas the other tables remain static/unchanged.[code]...
View 5 RepliesI am using sql server 2005 with vb.net 2008. I really troubled to resolve a problem that how to updating datatable. My code just update the first record the datatable but when i want to update any other record of datatable it still remain unchanged. I am using Master/Detail tables and my coding structure is as under Note I am just facing problem to updating the child table only and I am using Typed DataSet and in child table ItemID is a Primary Key
Dim i As Integer
StoreDBDataSet.Tables("RequisitionDetail").Rows(i).Item("ItemID")=txtCode.EditValue
StoreDBDataSet.Tables("RequisitionDetail").Rows(i).Item("ItemName") = txtDescription.EditValue

I am an old VB2 programmer and in the process of moving up. In VB2 I could obtain a data row via and index on an access table. I can not find an example on how to do this. I can retrieve a single row using a query, but an index would be faster. I know in Oracle use can use a hirt to direct the query to use the index.Here is what I was during in VB2 (Sample) with no hint.
Set Stock_Tbl = "DataBaseName".openTable(Stock_Tbl_Name)
Stock_Tbl.Index="Symbol_Idx"
Stock.Tbl.Seek="MSFT"

I know this is old hat, but when you're faced with a problem you cannot solve yourself, you need to find someone with the correct answer.In short, go to the wise.
I am working on an application that has a lot of records, and it uses a listbox control bound to a binding source attached to a table in a data source.A new record with data is added to the binding source's attached table, and, of course, to the underlying sqlServer database table:

I have a data set in the User control . It was working fine but now when I started using another copy of the user control it started showing error DataTable internal index is corrupted: '5'.
dim dv as dataview
dv = new dataview(ds.tables("Names")
dv.rowFilter ="CatNum ='"& val&"'" 'This will always give one row only
dv.item(0)("Names") = myvalue ' here the exception is occurring
I understand that DataTable.Select() returns an array of rows. I just want to know whether these is a way to get the row indexes as well.
View 4 RepliesI have a datatable with 10 records linked to a datagridview. When I initially load the datagridview, row 0 in the datagridview = row 0 in the datatable - based purely on the order they load, and the datatable's default sort order. I then filter my datagridview and am left with 5 records. Is there a way of determining programatically, the actual datatable row number of a row displayed in a datagridview, considering that row 0 in the datagridview is now not necessarily row 0 in the datatable?
View 6 Repliescreated a small application that I'm able to add items from an access DB to a ataGridView.Now, My questions is: suppose that I have a list of item in this DGV,containing name and Quantity. Now I would like the database to be updated with new values on Quantity column, something lke this: (Current values - Quantity on DGV).

In a DataTable object, is there added overhead to looking up a column value by name thisRow("ColumnA") rather than by the column index thisRow(0)? In which scenarios might this be an issue. I work on a team that has lots of experience writing VB6 code and I noticed that didn't do column lookups by name for DataTable objects or data grids. Even in .NET code, we use a set of integer constants to reference column names in these types of objects. I asked our team lead why this was so, and he mentioned that in VB6, there was a lot of overhead in looking up data by column name rather than by index. Is this still true for .NET?

I have a question related with VB.Net Code. I see that the DataTable we can use: DataTable(0)'This return a DataRow with the selected index In the intellisense I see that this functionality can achieve with a extension... but, If I create a extension, always I need refer the Extension before to use it

When i load my database i load it into a DataSet.When i search the database i load the results in to a DataTable.I want to find what index a search result has in the DataSet.When navigating the dataset i can use this code to get the index ds.Tables"Filmer").Rows.IndexOf(ds.Tables ("Filmer"). Rows(inc))But i can't make i get the dataset index of a search result from the DataTable.I thought that i could use the same code when navigating the DataTable, but it only returns.
View 3 RepliesI need to sort a datatable. I do it with linq this an example
Dim query = From c In dt.AsEnumerable _
Order By c.Field(Of DateTime?)("LastPurchaseDate"), _
c.Field(Of String)("LastName") Descending
Dim dv As DataView = query.AsDataView
But my problem is that i need to sort the fields not by passing the name of the column but the index of that.
I have a datagridview that has a checkbox. That checkbox will designate if a day is a "Holiday" or not. When then user clicks on my save event, I want my sub to check to see if that box is checked and appending the data to a table in my database.

View 1 RepliesI've been browsing these forums for a day looking for the answer to this, so far nthing has fitted.I've got an access 2000-2003 database containing a whole pile of data for a VB coded application to use. One of the tables in the database needs to be able to be updated with data from the application.The new data is stored in the app as a datatable. I need to replace the original table in the Access file with the datatable in the App.
I'm changing as many as 60 values at a time, so defining these as parameters in an OleDbCommand would be impractical and frankly ridiculous.
i have two datragridviewcomboboxcolumn,and two textbox column in a datagridview.each combobox column is binded to separate binding source.
column names are sl_no,col_empname,col_empworktype,Col_Hours etc.and
displaymember,datapropertyname,valuemember and for comboxcolumn are
col_empname:-emp_name,emp_id,emp_id
col_empworktype:-worktypename,worktypeid,worktypeid

I have a vb.net project where I have data loaded into a datatable in a dataset and have to do approximately 20 updates that are sql like. On this project, I don't have access to sql nor does the end user want to use any type of sql, sql express etc.
My question is, is there a generic way of doing this so I can reuse it. Was wondering if a dataview could be analgous to the "WHERE CLAUSE" and some type of delegate function could be the update function.

View 2 RepliesI have a little big problem in one application.
I have a datagridview with data from a datatable, this datatable have these fields (id,num1,num2, date,user,ref,qt,cost,center), some of them are hided in the dgv (id,num1,num2,date,user). The user can edit,delete and add new rows to the dgv.
I have a save button that performs this actions:
First check if there are new rows, and if yes it fill the hidden fields. Then validate the inserted values by the user with a couple of ifs. In the end, i call the bindingsource EndEdit, and call the adapter Update command against the datatable...
This sometimes works others not really, i don't understand why.
The error it's: "Concurrency violation: the DeleteCommand affected 0 of the expected 1 records"
I think sometimes when Updating it occurs to.
on a windows form i have a combobox called currency, it is populated by a table-adapter called exchan-gerate which is turn populated by a dataset called mydataset. on form load, i issue update commands to the back-end database that holds the table which populates the dataset - they work. if i look at the update to the combobox, they are not reflected until i exit and restart the app - then they're fine. further down the form load i've tried:
Me.exchangerate.Update(Me.DataSet.Currency)
Me.CurrencyComboBox.Refresh()
am i missing something silly to have the values in the combobox change and refresh at the time of the update to the database? as i said, an exit and restart of the app displays the accurate data.
I am using Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express. I have a WPF-based project. I have a successful connection to a database in Database Explorer, and a working existing Data Source in Data Sources.
I created a datatable from the datasource using this code:
Dim roster_table As New DataTable("AGENT_ROSTER")
I can manipulate this datatable just fine, but I cannot figure out how to save its data to my database (agentroster.sdf) since the connection is on a global level, and isn't declared in this particular window.
How do I update this database from the datatable on this window?By the way, I tried creating a connection on this window's code, using the exact same connection string as the successful globally-connected database, yet it said that it couldn't connect.
But I've got a problem now, and I haven't been able to find any answer. Here is the code I'm executing:
Imports MySql.Data.MySqlClient
Private Sub Timer1_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Timer1.Tick

when the user clicks on the add button another form launches, which enables the user to add student info such as name, address, course, start date and end date, this information is then written to class when the ok button on that form is clicked, and then displays the data on the initial form in data grid. the user can add multiple entries and they are all displayed on the intial form and a the data grid is populatedwhen any of the rows in the displayed grid is selected, and the update button is clicked then the same form launches as the previous one and but this time its in the update mode and pre populates the form with the inital values.
