Jun 14, 2010I am updating some apps because the server will be replaced very shortly.The apps were created in VS 2005 and upgraded to vs2008.For some reason. my update command does not seem to work when I changed over to the new server.All settings that I have are pointing to the new server. Jul 26, 2009I have ALWAYS used the SQLDataSource to update my records in my SQL Server 2005 database, so i am not really sure how this would be done in normal code. I am using VB.NET but if you are a C# developer and want to show me some code that is more than welcome as well.
I am using ASP.NET 3.5.My user will see a page with 5 Text boxes with their contact details in. Those details I will get from a SQL Server DB and when they go and change the text in the text box and click submit, it must then save the changes.
This is very easy with the SQLDataSource but how can i code this myself?

Aug 5, 2009I believe my problem is fairly simple, and not uncommon among programmers switching from VBA (Access) to the big leagues (SQL Server / VB.NET). I'm using a 30-day trial version of Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Server 2005.
Now, I've created a form with a datagridview control that pulls information from my database on the SQL Server, and I use this code to put the changes back to the database. This code works perfectly:

Updating A Server Property Of A Word Document Residing In A SharePoint Folder?
Jun 17, 2009Using Office automation in Word 2007, I view the Document Information Panel, showing me properties of a document that resides in a SharePoint location. Using VS 2008, I interrogate the following in the Immediate Window:

but I don't see a corresponding change to the screen. I do however see that, on Advanced Properties/Custom Tab that a Custom Property by the name of "Process Name" has been recorded with the value "New Value"There seems to be some kind of one way mapping going on between "server" and "custom" properties, but the really strange part is:I can update SOME server properties, others I cannot.I don't know a darn thing about SharePoint, other than as a dumb user. And getting any help from a SharePoint admin in my company is probably a very long shot...I checked all of Word's Built-in Properties and Custom Properties, I decided that none of them can be used to update the "Process Name" "server" property.How can I update this stubborn property? Most of the server properties I can update, a few I cannot.I see some articles referring to using what looks like "SharePoint objects." Do I need to download an SDK just to populate these properties? So far I've used Office automation, because I am running locally on the user's PC and pre-filling documents using the Word object model. Jan 25, 2012I have a webpage with a form that is used to edit some object. This object contains a Collection of other objects defined like this: Public Overridable Property Employees As List(Of Employee)
On a form I can delete an employee, add a new one or modify existing one. When I click save new values are sent to the server. On a server I check if the user exists. If exists then I modify its values, if it does not exist then I add it. All employees that exist on the server and were not sent are marked as deleted (State changed to EntityState.Deleted). I try to use the following code (dbCollection = database entities, newCollection = collection sent from the form):

This code does not work, because changing to EntityState.Deleted removes the object from collection, and for each loop breaks, since the collection is modified...I know that I can overcome this problem by using a for loop or adding objects to delete to some other list first, but I hope maybe there is a pattern that would make my code nicer.

Aug 11, 2010i'm tying to send email in my application directly by the smtp server but the server doesn't allow me to do that.The application its used by everyone in the company, so i set the smtp client UseDefaultCredentials to True, but the server replies with this when i try to send an email:[code].....If i set the credentials by hand, the server sends the email. So my problem is how to make this work to everyone? I don't want to have one public/friend var all time in the application with the credentials of the current user?

Feb 25, 2011I have a client/server application set up that the client sends a word file to the server and then the server converts that word file to a .TIF and sends the image back.The stuff I have now works.Say if I sent the size of the file and the actual file byte() to the server back to back, would the NetworkStream contain both back to back? This what I though would happen. So I implemented a kind of 'turn' based interaction during the duration of the conversion process.

Application Runs On Citrix Server But Not On Virtual Terminal Server
Sep 3, 2009An application loaded on a citrix server executes with no problem. When we try to run the same program files on a virtual server, we get silent errors and we do not even see the application window appear. The program runs for a moment in task manager, but then closes down. BTW other .net apps run on the virtual server. Here is the error we see in the event viewer application logs[code]...
