I program with VB.Net some time now.But i dont know whow can i make a program without form.And i dont meen, hide form (Form.Hide(),Form.Visible = false) or stuf like that.I meen, how to make program, without form, but with elements like notifiicon, openfile dialogs and all other stuff that can be used without form.i think a managed to run program without form, with sub main or something like that, but i could use any control. View 5 RepliesI have a program that uses two forms. The program opens to the Main form, and the user can navigate to the other form from the Main form through use of a button. Here's the way I've currently written it: When the Main form loads, it declares and instantiates the other form during the load procedure. When the user presses a button, the second form is displayed by means of the ShowDialog method. On the second form, there is a Return to Main Screen button which closes the second form, bringing the user back to the Main form.
So, here's the structure of the code:

Here's my reasoning: Originally, I wrote the code so that a new instance of the second form was created every time the button was pressed. The problem was that whatever data was displayed on the second form, previously, was lost when the user returned to it a second time. Since the user would be switching back and forth between these forms, frequently, I needed that data to persist.
What is the best practice for accomplishing this:
1) Declare and instantiate the second form on program start, as I have done, and use the button simply to show the form?
2) Declare and instantiate the second form each time the button is pressed but maintain the variables on the Main form and pass them ByRef to a custom constructor for the second form? Is this even possible?
3) Something else?
I am using vb.net 2008 i have been using a mdi form which is the startup form for my prog. and i have a main menu on that form. now i would like to shift to tree view as my client has asked for it. whenever a node is selected i can select the form corresponding for that particular code. everything is fine till here. but when the form is loaded the tree view is coming on top of the form the tree view is docked in a pannel. now i have tried everything treemenu.sendtoback and the say the form to b called is taxtypemaster then taxtypemaster.bringtofront but still the tree view is coming over the form

View 4 RepliesSo I've just created a small program that reads from a file and has a few nested loops. I have a label that updates in the form every time the loop is run. When I compile this program in vb (2010), the program works properly, and the label updates as expected every time the loop is run. When I run the built .exe version, the program's backend works, but the label doesn't update, and the loading cursor appears over the form.(So the loop continues to run properly, but the label doesn't update on the form).

On my program the user clicks a button which then runs the main code for my program. The problem is once the code is executed I can no longer move or interact with any form boxes, reliably at least . Sometimes there will be a period of delay where I can move it for an instance. Is there anyway I can make it so that my form is able to be moved while the program is running?

View 1 RepliesI've recently been learning vb.net, coming from a background in java and c. I'm pretty comfortable adding buttons and things like that to my form, and then using those click events to call functions in other classes.
However, the way I have been testing my code is to add a button to my form and then have the click event initiate the first function call (basically I have this button acting like a java main() method.
I have recently been wondering if there is a more efficient way of testing out my code that is similar to how it is done in java or c. By this I mean, is there a way to skip all of the form stuff and just have a sub procedure or function that is similar to a main method in java?
I've seen several answers that have mentioned how to add get a main sub to work in vb.net, but they required changing some of the properties of the project. I'm looking for something I can just code and hit run without having to disable the application framework.
Since I'm still relatively new to vb.net, I am also wondering if this is they wrong way to go about it? If I was being asked to create some code in an interview or something, would I need to worry about launching everything, or would they just want to see me implement the class as a standalone file?

I have two programs.One is a program that is used at the end of the day to submit cash, check and credit card values to the home office.This is used in 10 retail locations. Each store also fills out a deposit slip manually and faxes a copy of the clip to the home office. I have another program I wrote for my church that allows us to enter checks and cash collected during the offering each Sunday and print a deposit slip.
I want to combine these two programs.I tried by creating a new project and adding these two project to it.That works except as I make changes to the screens and codes it modifies the original programs.I don't want this.How can I combine these two projects (code and screens) into one and save it with a different name? I am using Visual Basic Express.
im supposed to create a program in the form type. its supposed to ask the user for a number so i created a textbox for the entry for the number in the form and a button to execute the program. then the program prints a number of "$$$$$" dollar signs as the entered number. furthermore, only upto 5 "$$$$$" sings should be in a row. oh and i have to use the for-loop for this. i used to be do this when i did qbasic but i have completely forgotten the codes and syntax, etc.
