Let's say I have a console application that performs some actions on text files. I'd like a way to, in Windows Explorer, select multiple files, then hit a function key (or something like that) which launches my application using the selected file names as it's input parameters.

I need some help with the input validation of my application. Attached is the code that I have written as well as a screenshot of the front end. I specifically need input validation to verify that the user selected input for cbLengthOfStay is a number between 1-10 as well as input validation to verify the user input for txtMedication, txtSurgicalCharges, txtLabFees and txtRehabilitation is a positive numerical number. View 2 RepliesI have 10 buttons 0-9 And i have 4 textboxes All representing different values (n,e,x,y) Ok so what i want is to be able to use my 0-9 buttons to input the numbers into the boxes. However my problem is How can my program know which text box the mouse cursor is in. Right now, i can only get it to go in one of the boxes That i tell it too by using the textbox's name. Or all of them at once.
SO is there a way that when i click in text box "n" when i click numbers they will go there. Then if i click in text box "e" and click the the numbers, they will go in there?

When debugging my app it works fine i.e. It gets the two commandline args, through a loop, and execute as expected. However, once I publish it, the app only picks up the first argument, which is the .exe file string. Code below:

View 2 RepliesI'm trying to convert the C# code from this webpage to VB.Everything seems to have converted pretty much fine using an online converter tool, but then I reach the following line:
fadeOutAnimation.Completed += (sender, args) => OnFadeOutAnimationCompleted(d, hostGrid, grid);
The fadeOutAnimation.Completed event produces an event with the signature (sender, args), and d, hostGrid and grid are variables local to the function containing this mysterious event handler assignment.
I think I can see that the instruction on this C# line is telling the code to execute the OnFadeOutAnimationCompleted function, using d, hostgrid and grid as parameters, when fadeoutAnimation.Completed occurs, but I have no idea what to even search for in order to replicate this behaviour in VB.net.

View 2 RepliesSo I have two ListBoxes. Listbox1 gathers files from a directory and I have an add button to add selected files from Listbox1 over to Listbox2.
Is there a way to manually sort these items? Maybe with an up down buttons?
The reason I'd like to sort/reorder is I'll have a process that will run those selected files and each file will have to produce another file unique to the filename.
A quick example would be process FILE1.txt and produce FILE1.pdf, etc.
Is there an easier way to accomplish the sort/reorder?

I'd like to start off by saying I'm extremely new to programing (3weeks) and I've come across a problem with my code. I've created a form that copies files from one folder to another. A user can either copy all files or selects files from a list box. Due to the size of the files the program freezes when performing the task. I have used backgroundworker component for copying all files and it works fine (no freeezing ). When I use the backgroundworker component for copying selected files I receive an error.

The project I'm working on is essentially writing a new front end for the 7 Zip compression using 7Zip's downloadable SDK. My main issue that I'm working out now is trying to figure out how to integrate this into Windows Explorer.
I want to be able to select a group of files in a folder or Windows Explorer, right click them, then choose various options such as "Compress", "Compress and Test", etc. By clicking either of these options, I would like my VB.net app to open and perform the function associated with the specific menu entry. I imagine there are two parts to this, first how to get the options to show up in the right click menu, then how to pass the selected files to a VB.net application. I don't even know where to begin with this.

File2 has customer name, customer address, invoice number AND a keyline. File1 will only contain some of the records in File2, and it will change daily. I need to be able to compare File1 against File2 and output one file (preferably an Excel spreadsheet) with the info from File1 and the keyline from File2, that matches the duplicated info. I know the basics to get it to work, but I'm not sure what would be the easiest way of doing this... File2 can have up to 100,000 records per day. I'd only need to run it once a day though.

I have created tool which performs batch processing on files that are selected. The sub routine I have defined in the code, now I want to implement a way through which I can select actions that I want to perform and then perform the actions. For example the list has multiple actions, like Open, Close, SaveAs, Resize, Color Correct etc. I should be able to select what all I want to do on each file and then perform this actions. Someone suggested me using delegates for this, but I cant use that since all my functions have different parameters. Ither option I had is to use a nested IfElse or Switch to determine which action is selected and call function according to it, but thats to heavy I think, is there any optimized a better way to do this.???

I have a program that will rename files that the user selects. The problem is even though when you go through the whole process, and it works successfully, it doesn't rename every file.To all people new to vb, try not to code like this as it is about the worst way to use a loop. I was in a hurry last night so i took the easy way out [code]Again, bad coding practices throughout the whole project, but the program will probably only be used by my dad so it will do.Note that the form: "Name and Ext" will not be shown when the program is all finished. I only had that visible for now so that i can check to see that everything is executing correctly.
