View 4 RepliesI've been working on my game for a while, in a non-online multi-player state it is complete. My goal is to add LAN or Internet Play support. My game is coded in Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express, It relies heavily on timers.Currently you play against the AI, and there is a Local multiplayer mode, using mice, controllers or the keyboard. At the moment, it is a two player, (Or 1 player against the AI) game, from my understanding the standard Client-to-Server option wouldn't very efficent, the best choice would be a peer-to-peer system. That being said, a lot of the stuff could be done client side, like for instance, the particle engine and Dynamic Rendering.[code]
View 1 RepliesI was able to use the VB off line iso file to install VB 2010 Express but it did not include the Reference Library
View 9 RepliesDoes the Express Version support adding multiple soultions (.sln) to a project or is this only available with the Professional version.I see that I can add a DLL as a reference that was built in 2010, but it is not letting me step into it with the debugger (or recompile changes to its source).
View 10 RepliesI've managed to produce a simple project in vb 2010 express and to publish it onto a cd. I can install the project from the cd and run it successfully on my windows 7 machine where I developed it but trying to install it onto a windows xp machine produces the message:

how i can run .net framework on my pc tell me necessary requirements
View 3 RepliesI was just wondering if anyone had come across this issue before or anything. I just downloaded Visual Studios 2008 professional trial version (ISO) and when I try to run it or open it, I get a "The operation could not be completed. Access is denied." message. I tried doing everything.I disabled my antivirus, uninstalled a previous version of VS 2008, I still get this message.
View 4 RepliesI have several applications I want to work on where I could sure use this. Are there any plans in the works to add this at some point?
View 4 RepliesThe program consists of a datagridview with data loaded from our sql server.Once in a great while, the up and down arrows on the scroll bar will be blanked out and I am not able to click on them. When I try scrolling using the scroll bar, the datagridview is resized instead of scrolling.
NOTE: This isn't a program I wrote, just one that I'm using. It was developed with VB 2005 Express, framework 2.0.
I'm running the string on "Can I run a VB.net application on a website"Nothing seem to work after trying to install web developer, it would not install. So i uninstalled VB express and tried to install Visual Studio 2008 which did not successfully install so I tried 2010 and still nothing. Why am I having problems installing Visual studio? Also I cant install windows xpsp3? error messages says not compatible?
View 2 RepliesI have Visual Basic Express 2008 installed, and according the book I'm using, there should be an option under 'Edit->Advanced Submenu' that has options for toggling: White space, Word wrap and Comment selection. Is this feature available on the express versions of MS Visual Basic? I cannot find it.
View 2 RepliesMy question is about syntax.bviously every language has set of rules for how to write or speak specific language. My problem is that I don't know the rules for VB. Let say that I want to write this sentence in VB compiler: aligator with big mouth is coming to your house. I know the order: first noun, then verb, and argument in brackets. But when I want to write this aligator
View 12 RepliesI am trying to make a user account SQL database work with Visual Basic 2008 Express for login purposes, i.e. usernames & passwords. Plan is to host this server so people can login to use the the application and verify they have a valid account. I would like to host all the account information in SQL due to the possiblity of hundreds of users at any given time. I also need the ability to add data to the database for users registering for the first time. The SQL server will need to be able to access the SQL Server databases remote via WAN.
View 3 RepliesI have downloaded VB express 2008 from Microsoft site on one computer. This computer has access to a wireless internect connection so it was quick to install vb express.
I want to install VB express 2008 on another computer which has access to a dialup internet connection and being so slow i am unable to download it. Is it possible to copy VBE installed on one computer to other computer through a USB drive.
Does Windows mobile 6.x and CE development supported in VS2010?

I tried to start using VB 2010 Express with a program I originally developed with VB 2005 Express that I moved to VB 2008 Express successfully a couple years ago. It uses a database file (*.mdf) that is on the computer ( not out on a server). When attempt to run the program in debug mode, I get the following error "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Documents and SettingsTomMy DocumentsQuizzing StuffQuestion Database 2010QuizQuest ionGameQuizQuestionGameinReleaseQuizQuestionDB.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share."
I first made a copy of the entire project folder that was working in VB 2008 Express and gave it a different name. In VB2010 I opened the project in the copied folder and it said it successfully converted the project. I am able to open the Data Source inthe Designer and see the database structure as I expect. I think the project is still using SQL Server 2005 Express (because it is what is checked in the list of prerequisites on the Publish tab).
Note, I have programmed off and on for many years, but fairly new to using databases and SQL Server.

View 1 RepliesI am trying to re write a VB6 program using MS Access, many years ago, using VB 2010 express and SQL server 2008 R2 Express. I have a database with several tables, which I created using the designer. I am able to connect to the database and select data and display it in textboxes etc in vb code. What I have not been able to in code is to INSERT rows DELETE rows or UPDATE any data in the tables. I can do any of these operations using the Query Designer, but I want to do it in code. I can post some code if necessiary, but I thought it might just be some property that I had not set in the designer.

Is VB Express 2010 slower to compile and run that older versions of VB Express? I've installed it this weekend and it seems a little sluggish on my quad core computer with 1 gig of RAM. I have VB Express 2005 installed for my students at school and it seems to fly just fine. Those school computers are older P4s with 512k of RAM.
View 7 RepliesI tried upgrading vb6 to vb.net using the convert tool in visual studio 2010. But I couldnt find the option Visual Basic 2010 Upgrade Wizard.
View 4 RepliesInitially my app worked with excel fine, now it causes my computer to reboot only after Excel has been opened (two or more times). I have opened and closed Excel files 20+ times without running thru either of my apps (they all uses identical code for excel) and it has never caused a reboot or a crash.
run either of my apps and have the app control excel has become a crap shoot, it will reboot my computer. Adding to that I then have to do a manual shutdown because the reboot process after is unstable. (System doesn't respond properly). My code in this app is small, should make for a good example. I can provide the entire project to anyone who would volunteer to test it. (First I need to know how to send the project).

Have we moved from "Being forced to go install a 3rd party add in to get what C# users have" to "Being forced to go buy a 3rd party add in to get what C# users have"?
Why did MS see fit to get DevExpress to create Refactor! for the previous versions of VS, but not for 2010? Or am I missing something?
In C#, one can create an array of anonymous objects with new []. This was not supported in earlier versions of VB.NET, but a comment by Chris Dwyer in another StackOverflow post suggests to me that it might be supported in VB.NET 2010. I haven't been able to confirm this though.
View 1 RepliesI am working on a project which use files with a .HRZ extension. These are image files with a simple red, green, blue, red, green, blue structure. There is no header of any kind. I know how to display these files in a picturebox or convert them to a bitmap, but of course Windows 7 does NOT know what they are, so just shows a blank icon in the OpenFileDialog. How easy would it be for me to add support for this file format to Windows and/or the OpenFileDialog so I can show a thumbnail of each file? I can create my own file browser but I would really like to use the OpenFileDialog if at all possible.
View 3 RepliesI compiled some VB6 code on my Win7 x64 machine and the result .exe will not run correctly on any other machine. VB6 code is just a new template .exe file with one button, a reference to "Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects 2.6 Library" and the following code in the button press event: Dim db Set db = New ADODB.Connection It runs correctly on my machine, but no others (even other Win7 x64 machines) (Update: I found TWO other users where it runs and one of them is Jeff Atwood!, but most machines have the same problem)

Why doesn't vb.net in Visual Studio 2010 have any Refactor support
View 14 RepliesI found that this answer was asked and answered before VS2010 was actually released.[code]to a .NET Framework 4.0 project in Visual Studio 2010 and it does not compile.Do you now if this feature is really implemented and what I am doing wrong?
View 3 RepliesI am trying to make a renaming program, which I have done, but wanted to add drag and drop support. Firstly, when I drag and drop the files into a listbox they appear to be going in and are ordered randomly. I want them to go into the order they're dragged in. Secondly, instead of having the entire path such as:
D:TVThe Big Bang Theory SeasonSeason 1The Big Bang Theory S01E01 - Pilot
I want just "The Big Bang Theory S01E01 - Pilot" to go into the listbox.
