VB 6.3 Vs 2010 Code Worked In Earlier Version?

Dec 21, 2009

This worked fine in VB 6...but does not in 2010. Any ideas of what I have to change?

If Gun1Avail = "No" Then
targetcount = 1
Do Until targetcount = 7
If frm.Controls("Target" & targetcount & "Gun1") = "Blah" Then
frm.Controls("Target" & targetcount & "Gun1").BackColor = vbRed

Compare DataGridView With Earlier Version?

Feb 17, 2012

I'm working on a program that set up as master/details. I'm working on making save checks in the program, so that if something gets changed, it gives a warning when leaving the form if it hasn't been saved. I've got it mostly working, but I'm having problems with when i get to my details section.

The details section is a DataGridView (DGV) that loads with a one to many relationship. I've got is set up right now that when the form loads, it takes and makes an array call aryOriginals, and as you close the form, it makes another array called aryClosing. It compares these two sets of arrays, and if nothing is different since the page opened, it will close without any problems. If it has been changed, a msgbox pops up to let the user know that there has been a change since they last saved and asks if they want to wait to close the form so they can save.

All of that is working great. What I'm having a problem with is doing the same thing with the datagridview. And before anyone suggests it, I can't use DataSet1.HasChanges, because that was giving me weird problems of saying there were changes when nothing changed due to a custom made combobox i use in a few of my datagridviews. So I need some way of comparing the two datagridviews. I've looked online, but can't seem to find anything with what I'm looking for.

Change Program To Use An Earlier Version Of Net Framework?

Feb 3, 2010

I wrote a programme and sent it to my client, (it was not a deployment or install file - just the .exe). He responded that it would not run and the PC reported "this program requires Net Framework 2.0". He cannot update the PC in question with Net Framework 2.0. So my question is can i somehow change my program to use an earlier version of Net Framework?

Deployment Results In Earlier Version Of Project?

Jan 11, 2010

I am using VB.NET 2008 Express Edition and INNO Setup. When I create a setup and run it, the resulting install is an older version of my project from, I think, 2 or 3 days ago. If I go back to my project in the developer window and run the project, it is clearly a newer version than the install. Since this installed version that comes up was done I have added a form and made many other changes.Is it because the build didn't exeucte? When you run the project doesn't it execute a build every time?I tried this again from a backup. (The backup is much more recent than the version I'm getting.) And it still does the same thing.Why does the install not match the project? It is not possible to go into the project and add the changes because they are already there.

C# - Why This Code Is Not Working While It Worked Fine For Almost A Year

Apr 21, 2009

Does automatic software update causes some of the module property not to work? They are basically the same function that reads image logo from the currently executing assembly. Function named "Get2LogoImageStream" is different from "Get1LogoImageStream" by just Current.ManifestModule.Name vs Current.ManifestModule.ScopeName.

This "Current.ManifestModule.Name " version of the code worked on both Web From app and Windows form app, however right now it only works for Windows App form. But when I changed this code "Current.ManifestModule.Name" with "Current.ManifestModule.ScopeName" and it worked on WEB without any problem. So my questions to fellow C# or VB.NET developers is that does automatic software update causes this kind of issues?

protected Stream Get1LogoImageStream()
{
Assembly current = Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly();
string imageName = "logo.jpg";

Code That Worked With MultiView Fails With Wizard ASP.NET

I originally created a process that occurred by transitioning between views in a multiview and it worked fine. Now, I've moved this same code into a ASP.NET Wizard and it keeps throwing an error at the second step. The error is:Method 'System.Object AndObject(System.Object, System.Object)' has no supported translation to SQL.Any ideas why this would occur when moving the code into the wizard? I'm sure its something stupid, but I've checked over the code 3-4 times now and it appears identical operationally.Here is the code:[code]

Put In Some Code That "worked" The Whole List(Of)?

Jun 9, 2012

I've started using Structure's with code - so I can have a List(Of someStructure) and run code against the structures in the list. They are like mini-classes.

I needed to put in some code that "worked" the whole List(Of) - so I put that as a sub in the structure that I pass the List(Of) to - seems a bit of a hack.

I'm curious what I might be missing about them - anyone willing to share some structure-with-code ideas?

How they relate and differ from each? What are the best practices for version control? Is there a primer about publish online? Or a good book?

And is it possible to make ClickOnce and a msi in one solution of VS 2008? If so, is there any conflict or pitfall?

BTW I am using VB if that makes any difference.

IDE :: Breakpoint Will Not Currently Be Hit / Source Code Is Different From The Original Version

Dec 9, 2010

I recently acquired a job as IT Support/Developer for a small company. I inherited responsibility for their customer relationship managing system("CRM"). I did not build the web application, but I was expected to remove small bugs and input improvements. The version of the application was it was running on the live server was obviously in its release build, with all code-behind files compiled and hidden away.I was able to find the original application project folder with the aspx and vb source files contained within. I installed Visual Studio 2008 with SP1 onto my work machine, and opened the application as a website. Initially the problem I had was the breakpoints weren't working because the correct symbols weren't being loaded. After a large headache I was able to track down/ generate the correct pdb files, and it stopped complaining about that.As it stands, I can build the website and run it in the debugger. In its completely unmodified state any breakpoints inserted work perfectly fine, however, as soon as I add or modify any new code, the breakpoints cease to work; "Breakpoint will not currently be hit. Source code is different from the original version." As far as I can tell it does not matter which code-behind file I edit the code within, as soon as I make any changes, the breakpoints stop working.Things I have attempted to solve the problem:

-Save and rebuild the website after each change I make.

-Restart Visual Studio.

-Restart my computer.

-Ensured the debugger is set to "Debug" and not release, verified this within the web.config file with "Debug=True".

-Uninstalled all versions and reinstalled the .NET Framework versions 2.0 and 3.5 with the belief that the references assemblies may be incorrect or out of date.

-Tried disabling/enabling/re-enabling various options in the debugger section of the options including "Enable just my code", "Require Source code to exactly match". The latter seemed to make the breakpoints work, but they would appear to randomly jump, obviously pointing to the wrong place.

-Examined the list of modules/output displayed during runtime to ensure the correct assemblies were being loaded, as far as I can tell, they are correct.

-Tried converting the website into a web application project, in order to gain access to the "Clean Solution" option, to no effect (indeed, converting to an application seems to generate even more errors, I'm assuming because the syntax enforcement is much stricter in a project rather than a website).

-Tried deleting the temporary asp.net files for the application.

-Tried redirecting the version of the .NETFramework stated in the IDE to an earlier version. I did this because I noticed the temporary asp.net files created on runtime come under the 2.0.50727 directory yet in the IDE it states it's directed toward version
3.5, however redirecting to version 2.0 not only didn't fix the breakpoints, but created additional errors.

-Contemplated deleting the bin and obj directories, however after attempting to delete the bin directory a large number of errors were thrown, thus I assume the dlls contained within are required to even run, and are not constructed on runtime.

I have a couple of suspicions of what could be wrong:

-The version of Visual Studio used to originally create the application is different from what I'm using now, could this affect the code?

-I need to get it working as an application, not a website. I suspect it was originally created as a web application because the original directory contains a "My Project" folder.

-The symbols/pdb files, while the IDE shows them as being loaded, are still out of sync. If this is the problem then I believe it probably does not lie with the pre-built Microsoft dlls, but rather those created independently as part of the application.

I suppose ultimately I don't understand why rebuilding, website or not, doesn't synchronize the source code with the changes I make. I have been agonizing over this for days now and I truly at my wits end. There's probably some very simple option or configuration.

Application Version Code Not Work In VB 2008 Express Edition?

Oct 19, 2009

I create a new Windows Forms application and add an AboutBox form which is built-in into Visual Studio. I add a button to Form1 to show the AboutBox when clicked.The AboutBox form has a label with the text "Version" on it. The following code is supposed to add the application's version to that label at run-time:

Me.LabelVersion.Text = String.Format("Version {0}", My.Application.Info.Version.ToString)When the application version is changed in the Publish tab of the My Project form to 2-0-3-6, the version on the AboutBox at run-time stays at 1.0.0.0 (of course after rebuilding).

Even when the application is published to the desktop, it still does not work. It does, however, reflect the correct version number in the title of a subfolder in the Applications folder that is created when the application is published.

.net - Unable To Open .DBF Files In Windows 7 That Had Worked Under XP

Dec 20, 2010

I have a VB.NET application that will let me preview .DBF files that come in from some of our clients. The application then attempts to spit out a CSV from this file that we can then use in our various environments. This application worked under Windows XP 32 bit. Our company recently upgraded most of us to Windows 7 x64 which has caused this application to fail. I verified that the target build for this application is x86 and not "any CPU" and rebuilt the app but same issues occur.

It originally used System.Data.Odbc and connection.ConnectionString = "Driver={Microsoft dBASE VFP Driver (*.dbf)};SourceType = DBF;SourceDB=" & dbfSourcePath & ";Exclusive=No; Collate=Machine;BACKGROUNDFETCH=NO;".
The location of the failure is at connection.Open(). The error given is: "ERROR [IM001] [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver does not support this function".

I noticed that the drivers for VFP were not installed and that the Access DBF drivers did not work similar to the post here. The fix listed there is to install VFPro SP2, however, we do not have any FoxPro installs to install a service pack on top of. I then tried to install the OLEDB driver for VFP 9.0 and am now using System.Data.OleDb and connection.ConnectionString = "Provider=VFPOLEDB.1; ourceDB=" & dbfSourcePath & ";" but it now tells me that the connection.Open() line has this error: "Feature is not available".

I am at a complete loss as to how to get this application to work under Windows 7 x64. Below are the 2 variants of the code with the file open path removed for readability (I have verified the path and file exist):

ODBC version:

Imports System.Data.Odbc
Dim strSelect As String
strSelect = "SELECT * FROM " & dbfSourceName

[Code].....

How can I use either an OLEDB or ODBC connection to open these .DBF files under Windows 7 x64?
