VB - Programmatically Checking A Hard Coded Checkbox?

OK, to make a long story short, programmatically generated data is taken back to the original page and the goal is to have this information cause checkboxes (hard coded into the aspx page) become checked.

I have two checkboxes in a windows form, one is called New Assumption the second is called Edit Assumption. What I want to do is that if either of these checkboxes are checked then the other should be unchecked.
I have tried using the CheckedChanges event, CheckStateChanged event and Click Event for each of these checkboxes and these events dont seem to be activated anytime I click the checkboxes.

am a build engineer of some VB6 and MSVS VB applications. Inotice the directory path (the location of source code, e.g. c:uild_viewsv70r3 ....)information is stored in the generated dll, exe.This gives us a lot trouble, because I can't use another path to build the dlls, otherwise the binary compare tool will say the dlls are different, due to embeded path info is different.We have parallel development, and the code has to be built in different machines, different paths. Is there a way to resolve this
I need to change something that is hard coded into my application - Souds simple i know - however.....In essence what i need is a single word that will be interchangable and will be available straight away and the next time the application starts up.So need to change the word that is already hard coded into the loading of the form.Like an internal password system?
ps. i was thinking of something on the lines of a sub that finds and replaces line 'x' in the load sub. unless that is uber complex - so open to any and all suggestions but please keep in mind i'm not the greatest at code - only been teaching myself for 9 months (and learning from people here for 1 month)

i want to write in a memo field and store it using identifiers like sessions and time stamps for example writing a memo with the session "subject" and session "dateANDtime" to be stored as "mysubject-12/12/2010-11:56pm.rtf"

I am trying to create a small application that will tell me if a website is up and running. This application will monitor if the site goes down. The problem is that there are several websites sharing the same IP address, and I cannot use ping to monitor it for the same reason. I do not know what type of code can I use to query the availability of the website. I read about webRequest and webResponse but I do not know how to get the response information that will tell me if the site is up or down. The code should be able to tell if a site like "mundo.reporters.com is accessible. That is the only thing.information to point to a potential solution will be more than welcomed.

I have an invoice that lists several items that one person has ordered. I want to take this invoice and every time I check the item it removes one of those from another list i created called item details. I have created a login form which only allows access the valid users. However when I am trying to validate the username and password enetered when the user clicks the Login button (btnLogin). However I am unable to pass through the username and password in the Select statement, entered by the user beccause it gives me an error that 'txtloginname' and 'txtpassword' is not declared in the LoginProcess Private Sub. How do I declare the texboxes i coded into the LoginProcess Private sub for it to work?
Is there any real point to learn VB besides as an introductory to grasping the concepts of programming? You never (at least myself) hear of any apps like, Winamp, Windows, Firefox, etc. that used VB.
