VB6 Upgrade To VB 2005 Failure Could Not Find Project File It Created?
May 30, 2006
I support applications in VB6 and VB2003, and I'm trying to upgrade the VB6 app to VB2005, so I have three versions of Visual Studio on my pc. I ran VS2005 and opened the VB6 app to launch the upgrade wizard. It seemed to run fine until it threw an error saying it could not find the project it just created. The project I'm trying to upgrade is called MGxFromSAP.vbp. The error said it could not find MGxFromSAP.vbproj. The project file it actually created is called MGxFromSAP.vbproj.vs7.vbproj. When I try to open this project in VS2005 it says it was created in an earlier version of Visual Studio and needs to be upgraded.Did it perhaps invoke the VB2003 upgrade wizard instead of the new one? How would I be able to tell?
Should I just let VS2005 upgrade the vs7 project or should I try to deinstall the old VS2003 upgrade wizard and rerun the upgrade from scratch?
I would like to run a .exe file made with visual studio 2003 but I get an error every time I run it on a windows 7 machine, vista machine, and xp machine. The error on Windows 7 and vista says "application has stopped working" and then makes me close the error box. In windows xp it's a little different error, "the application failed to operate (0xc0000135) Click on OK to terminate the application."
I am runing a third party application which creates a file in c: with the file name as "982345612_". Please note that the numbers are generated randomly and can be anything between 0 and 9.
What i want is that as soon as the file is created i want to read the first nine number from the file name and show in a label in my form. I have no control over file creation but through my form i want to read filename as soon as the file is created.[code]...
I can't get VB.Net to publish my current project, it can't find SETUP.BIN.It looks for SETUP.BIN in the directory where I have my application, not Program Files Windows SDK .. etc.If I move the ENGINE directory of the SDK path to my directory, it finds SETUP.BIN but not SIGNTOOL.EXE I've got VS 2008 on XP Pro SP2 using .Net 2.0 and Oracle - It all works fine with a BUILD out of VS 2008.
i ve created a setup file for my project using vs2005....but it doesnot run on anothor target machine..it says that the machine requires windows installer and dot net framework to run my project how do i do this??
I am confused on saving a file to a certain folder. I know how to save files and what not but what I can't figure out is this:I right clicked my project name in VS2010 -->New Folder and added a new folder. Now this folder shows up in my Solution Explorer. How to I reference this folders location?
I have a question for many years.. Suppose if I Deployed a project using Setup Project. After some time, I added some features or modify it on customer demand.
1) How do I make a upgrade project so that the user runs the setup and the new changes are upgraded on the client system.
2) How do I automatically create ODBC System DSN Connections.
I have an application which has been deployed in a setup programme, but have lost the original project setup code. The new versions setup project has a different 'Upgrade code' GUI in the setup project and therefore when you try and upgrade the product it throws an error saying that a later version of the product is installed!
Is there any way for me to retrieve the Upgrade Code from an installed version of the program so that I can amend the new installer to match the old program. The program has to be installed to 350+ desktops via active directory, so no answers with silly shortcuts that only work for a single PC please people.
I create my setup packages.I then run setup.exe and I go through the whole process.Only problem: My application doesn't actually update.I know, because when logging to a file, I write a string that I manually modify with 'version' information, prior to building the setup project. When I then run my application, this string is written to that file. Before the update and after the update, that version info is the same.If I then uninstall my application ( and then I must do this - remove the application folder ( that was previously created ), which was never removed during the uninstall ), and then re-run my setup, the version info is now correct.
I have created a project that has an add a new record, edit record and a search form, that has multiple text, combo boxes and is working great.Last nite I have added a checkbox under my add new record form and i am saving the checkbox value to my database, so far so good. I would like to be able to search any record that is mark with a checkbox to show up in my search screen when I do a search: [code] The problem that i am having is that now that I have added the code to my project to search for the checkbox field in the search screen and if I leave everything blank and click on the the search button I get no record found. I expected to see all that data, since I have nothing selected. Now if I click my checkbox, as soon as I click on my search button I see that two records that I have added for my test.
About 3 years ago i came across a vb project for a photo album, it was on online tutorial and I followed it and after some custom tweaking I found it was quite usefull. Unfortuatly the original sourcecode has long since vanished. The project was fairly easy to follow and I remember the author had a photo image of his sailing boat and a yellow labrador (just trying to jog some memories here) :).
Anyway; I have searched high and low for it but can not find it. I'm pretty sure it was on a msdn or some other microsoft forum and was to do with VB 2005 or VB 2008 edition of Visual studio.
with vb.net 05 + access 03 how can i use parametrized append query via vb.net 2005..i don't know hence i used this code but this code is working fine but only the first row is appending equal to the number of records (i loop variable)[code]
How do I fix this error in Visual Studio? "The project file cannot be loaded. The application for project ... is not installed" I have copied a whole project onto my PC, both into My Documents/Visual Studio and into inetpub/wwwroot, but when I try to open the project in Visual Studio, it tries to open just 1 file .vssproj and gives me error messages, like : "The project file cannot be loaded. The application for project ... is not installed.". What am I doing wrong? The VS edition is 2005 as are all the projects aI am trying to load.
Is it possible to retrieve the pervious upgradeCode that was used to install the same application?
I have given our application to many or our clients.
They install our application using the MSI.
Everytime I release a new version for bug fixes or minor upgrades. In the setup project properties I increment the version number and change the product code (I always leave the same upgrade code). And I set the 'RemovePreviousVersion' to true.
However, a few weeks ago, I accidently changed the upgradeCode and released a new version to our customers. It was only now that a customer wanted to know why they have other instances of the same application in their 'add remove programs'. It installs ok, but they have to uninstall the previous version.
I am wondering is it possible to get back the original upgrade that was used to install those versions. As I used the same setup project, I no longer have that upgrade code?
I still have all my original setups.exe that were built with the original upgradecode
I have Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition. Can this be upgraded to Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition, rather than purchasing a newer set of Professional Edition?
I did this before BUT I forgot, I once had a txt config file embeded into I think the projects bin folder, and read data from it directly at execution time but I forgot how to set the path for that....

Trying to decrypt a textfile is giving me an error: The input is not a valid Base 64-string as it contains a non-Base 64 character, more then two padding characters, or a non-white space character among the padding characters.Besides that I also get an exception while debugging: A first chance exception of type 'System.FormatException' occurred in Fenix.exe When I start the app it opens the file and tries to decrypt it. After decryption the string is send to a label, so I can read it. The codes I used:
vb.net ' encrypt the file Private Function Encrypt(ByVal strText As String, ByVal strEncrKey As String) As String Dim IV() As Byte = {&H12, &H34, &H56, &H78, &H90, &HAB, &HCD, &HEF} Try Dim bykey() As Byte = System.Text.Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(strEncrKey) Dim InputByteArray() As Byte = System.Text.Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(strText)
I've installed the Microsoft Access Database Engine in order for an app to read and update and Excel file using OLEDB on a 64bit operating system. It all still works fine on 32 bit however i get a "Failure Creating File" error on a 64 bit machine.I'm using the following connectionstring(VB.Net) as per [URL]:
The message "Could not find file 'Microsoft.Windows.CommonLanguageRuntime, Version = 2.0.50727.0'." started appearing after I attempted to publish my software. All previous versions of my software are affected as well. I have two projects in the solution. Both are written in vb. All versions used to work fine.
I recently added a class I created with a tool to my Visual Studio 2010 project but I can't call it in my codebehind file. I was told I need to check the namespace. How do I check and control a classes's namespace?
What I am wanting to do is pass some information from my app to a new DLL project I have created. In the DLL I have 2 test forms (frm123, frm456). What I need to do is send 2 parameters over to the DLL, when the DLL recieves the info it would then determine which form to open. In the DLL I have in the Main Module ' I will use arg(0) later
