In visual basic 2008, I've created a logon form for my DDP World project. I was wondering, how do I create a uesr profile? For example:
Username: Admin Password: 9cookies1 (never used that password before, so dont try using it)

View 4 RepliesI am wanting to create a logon similar to the Windows Live logon, so in other words. user has frmLogon and is located in Australia. The user enters his/her details and then the program connects to a server in the United States and checks the Username and Password to make sure it is correct if it is correct it allows the user to logon and move to the next stage, if it is wrong it will give him an error message. I am wondering if anyone has a tutorial or source code laying around that I can rip apart and see how it works. I want to put the database on my server and connect to it from my desktop using the logon form.
View 3 RepliesI have created a project that has an add a new record, edit record and a search form, that has multiple text, combo boxes and is working great.Last nite I have added a checkbox under my add new record form and i am saving the checkbox value to my database, so far so good. I would like to be able to search any record that is mark with a checkbox to show up in my search screen when I do a search: [code] The problem that i am having is that now that I have added the code to my project to search for the checkbox field in the search screen and if I leave everything blank and click on the the search button I get no record found. I expected to see all that data, since I have nothing selected. Now if I click my checkbox, as soon as I click on my search button I see that two records that I have added for my test.

The problem is: I couldn't find a way to call this StartUp.vb file and therefore I am unable to call my LogonUI form, I also try to "right click" the vb project and select "properties" and go to "Startup form", couldn't see the class of "Startup.vb" showing up

View 5 RepliesFor reasons that are beyond my control, I have three Projects. Projects A and B reference project C. Project A references project B so that it can open a large form in project B. I now need to open that large form from project C, but VB won't allow me to add a reference from C to B because that would create a circular dependency. I found a way around it, though. I created a Timer in A, and when I opened C from A, I passed in that timer. When the user performs a certain action, I enable the Timer from A, and this causes C to open B for me.

Or like this:

I always use the first one. It's more type work but I think it's neater. How about you people and is there any real difference between the two?
i ve created a setup file for my project using vs2005....but it doesnot run on anothor target machine..it says that the machine requires windows installer and dot net framework to run my project how do i do this??

What I need to do is send 2 parameters over to the DLL, when the DLL recieves the info it would then determine which form to open. In the DLL I have in the Main Module ' I will use arg(0) later

I have created a new icon using VB.NET and have saved it to the project directory. I then set the icon property for a form to point to my new icon file. The new icon shows up in the properties window but when the program runs, the title bar displays the default icon that you get when starting a new icon file rather than my new icon.

View 5 RepliesI want to find the "select" query in the code behind of a button in a winform LogOn form.I have the source code of one big solution which includes 15 projects. There's 1 project with all the UI that I can run and start my debugging. During the debug process, I click log on button there's a line of code where I want to step through which it's calling a diffrent project in the same solution to validate the username and password. But it doesn't allow me to step into that project to validate the data. It just goes right through it and the username and password pass validation right after that line of code.

Looks good, but I am having a problem calling it from the main project. Here is what I have tried using...

However, it says thatKeyPressEventArgs is a Type and cannot be used as an Expression. I tried 'e' but no go. I am a little ahead of my classes (no pun intended) so I am likely missing something about what I am doing wrong.
I have three comboboxes so I though this would best suit my needs in the interests of writting decent code and not populating each call with repeating code.
I support applications in VB6 and VB2003, and I'm trying to upgrade the VB6 app to VB2005, so I have three versions of Visual Studio on my pc. I ran VS2005 and opened the VB6 app to launch the upgrade wizard. It seemed to run fine until it threw an error saying it could not find the project it just created. The project I'm trying to upgrade is called MGxFromSAP.vbp. The error said it could not find MGxFromSAP.vbproj. The project file it actually created is called MGxFromSAP.vbproj.vs7.vbproj. When I try to open this project in VS2005 it says it was created in an earlier version of Visual Studio and needs to be upgraded.Did it perhaps invoke the VB2003 upgrade wizard instead of the new one? How would I be able to tell?
Should I just let VS2005 upgrade the vs7 project or should I try to deinstall the old VS2003 upgrade wizard and rerun the upgrade from scratch?

Is there any literature which guides a user through the steps of deploying a vb project created with VS 2010 Professional and incorporating SQL 2008RE Database?
I have a VB project which incorporates 2 databases - 1 Access Db and 1 SQL Db. The project compiles and runs beautifully. However, after adding the databases in the project as existing items and deploying, the project opens/runs, but when I try to login the application I keep getting an error message telling me that the path to the .mdb (Access) database is not a valid path. I don't have a clue what else to do.
I need to create text box at a run time.

When this row GroupBox1.Controls.Add(textbox1) and GroupBox control are being deleted from Form, the TextBox isn't created on the Form after the event is fired.
I have 2 forms main_frm and copying_frm. In main_frm, there is a list view that is populated with file names. The user then clicks save and all the files in the list are copied to a folder that they choose using a folder browser dialog. When this happens, I do copying_frm.ShowDialog() to display the copying_frm. The copying_frm contains a progress bar and a cancel button. I can get the progress bar to indicate how much has been copied. But that freezes up the application. To get around this, I create a new thread (called copyingThread) that copies the files. When that thread runs though, it can't access the waitingList_lvw in main_frm. For example, in the function that the copyingThread executes, if I have this line of code: MsgBox(main_frm.waitingList_lvw.Items.Count.ToString()) the result is 0. Also, I don't get any errors and no files are copied. How do I access waitingList_lvw in main_frm from a thread called copyThread that was created in copying_frm?

I have a solution with several projects most of which are code or control libraries. I have a main windows forms application that references and uses these libraries. What i am trying to do is create a 2nd windows application that extends the main one, but i would like to be able to deploy them as separate exe's.
When i try to add a reference to the new app referencing the main app; all seems fine until i try to run the new app i get several error msgs similar to below:
Error 1 Could not find file 'ADODB.dll' referenced by assembly 'D:Visual Studio 2005ProjectsXXXinDebugXXX.exe.manifest'. <newAppName>
i have tried adding references to all the dll's in the error messages and they are still listed when i try to run the new app. I thought of a few work arounds but they require user changes to maintain separate exe's at deployment. I would like to avoid this if possible.

I have some very rusty C++ and lots of C experience, but have done little OO design or coding.I've started learning C++.NET as that seemed to be the best starting point.I've hit restrictions in Microsoft's provision with multiple inheritance and extensions, neither work in C++.Would I be better off starting again with C#, or am I better off using a mixed language approach. eg. extensions in C#, rest in C++?I'm still struggling with this->method or that.property and theother::staticthingy or whatever, and this probably is not an issue in C#. You'll see what I mean as that probably isn't the right way to desribe the difference between '->' '.' and '::'I'm getting to achieve what I want, but it's taking me 10 times longer than I think it should.

I am using VS 2008 and I have a solution with multiple projects. I would like to know how to open a form in project B from a Form in project A. The solution starts with the form in project A.I have tried the following and it does not produce the expected behaviour:In Form A I have added a reference to the Project B. The following code is in a form in project A. appraisal is a form in project B.

The above solution works to a degree. As the form is instantiated in Project A, I cannot reference any of the items in the form in Project B as I could if the Form in project B was instatiated through startup.
I have a number of projects in a solution and want to be able to access forms in all of the projects from a form in the main project. I thought of doing this to keep each segment of the solution manageble. If something goes seriously wrong in one of the projects it is easier to fix that starting from scratch with the whole solution.I have found numerous suggestions on this topic from "It cannot be done" to suggestions that do not work. The closest that I have come and still does not work is as follows:
