Handling Focus With Custom Controls?
Nov 3, 2011I have a custom control I'm creating. When I click on it, it draws a dotted border and puts some nubs on it for resizing. This all works perfectly. Now I want it so when I click off of it, it deselects. I already have a variable to set up if it's selected or not and subs to draw/clear it. I just have to be able to detect when something else is selected or it gets clicked off of.
What I've Tried
My first and best solution to this was to use the LostFocus event, but, by custom control apparently won't let it fire. After some research, as far as I know, custom controls don't have Focus events because they are custom and could be changed (basically, you have to implement the focus events yourself).
My Question
Does anybody have a solution to either implement the focus events or a way to handle off clicking for custom controls?

VS 2005 Error Handling Scope?

What I mean by that is if I have a sub called ImportData and in there I have a for loop to go through a list of files and in the for loop I call another sub routine called CheckData. All have catch error in. If a sub has a catch error in where does it go from its call.

Feb 18, 2011I have a for loop going through customers and for each customer a update a list of contacts. If there is an error updating the contacts I want it to move on to the next customer and if there is an error in the customer update I want it to move on to the next customer. At the moment if I get an error it bombs out of the routine. Here is a simple example:-

For iContactRows = 0 to oledscontacts.tables(0).rows.count - 1

If I get errors in the contact for loop or the customer loop it comes out of the routine altogether. I just want it to either continue to the next contact or customer.
VS 2005 Approach To Handling Multiple Tables?
Dec 7, 2010I started out with just one table called products but I had problems with doing an update; it said sql to complex which was because the product table had nearly 100 columns in. The products table consists of header information like product quality, colour etc. Then there are 3 blocks of columns which mainly consist of a size as being the column name and a quantity as being the value. I have put these in three seperate tables to get around the SQL update problem. My problem is what is the best way to code this. The tables link to the header table using an autonumber primary key.

I realize though that are infinintepossibliltys the user can perform especially with the programI am trying to create it requires ALOT of user interaction, with users inputting information (numbers in textboxes) and calculations happen on the fly, in other words there is no Calculate button after everything is input

Mar 17, 2009Decimal type columns have Precision and Scale where the length of the integral part of the decimal would be Precision - Scale, if the Precision is 4 and the Scale is 2 then the integral part can only contain 2 digits (4-2). As such I will probably need a control that I could set how much it should accept on its integral part. In that regard I am not sure which control is best for such cases, I could try to make a usercontrol that will handle that but is there any other control out there that I could utilize for this purpose, intrinsic to .Net or a custom control out there? I could also just validate the data keyed-in but the above solution seem to be more user-friendly. Curiously, when databinding such Decimal type columns, how is it handled when the specified integral part exceeds the allowable size (Precision minus Scale)?

Jan 24, 2009I am trying to create a ContextMenuStrip where I add a certain amount of ToolStripMenuItems based on how many columns are in a DataGridView via code. I am wondering, since I am creating all these ToolStripMenuItems in code, how would I handle the "CheckStateChanged" event on all of them separately? Or how can I figure out which one of those ToolStripMenuItems was clicked?

Keep Text Selected When Focus Changes VB 2005?
May 6, 2009I am working on a form that allows the user to open a plaintext file into a rich text box.The user can search for a word using a textbox and a find button. The word is then highlighted. I cannot figure out how to keep the word highlighted or selected when I type in my replace box or click anywhere else on the form, the word is no longer selected. have a replace button, which will replace any single instance of a word. But my replace all button is supposed to replace all of the words, and count the number of replacements it makes and display that number in a message box

I added the colLocation to dgv."descirption" contains Unicode characters. I can see the comboBox correctly and choose the item.The problem is when the comboBox lost the focus, the value is changed to first item of the comboBox.
Updated:I found out that the ComboBox doesn't change the data when the DisplayMember is in English characters. It changes only when the DisplayMember is in Unicode chracter.

Right now I would have 20 different events...10 for Enter event and 10 for Leave event. Of course, entering would change the back color to "green" and leaving would change it back to "white".

Nov 26, 2009I have two forms in an application. One is he background and then I show another keypad form called with the show() method (not showDialog) because I need to perform some validations on btn click.
The kepad has 10 buttons and an Enter Button. The problem is that the form keeps loosing focus (I checked this with a messagebox which keeps poping up once for focus=true and again for focus=false, it continuously keeps losing and gaining focus) so it does not process any keypress events untill i click somewhere on the form. I tried using me.focus() in form load event but to no avail. The forms TopMost property is also set to true.
