Cannot Convert Swedish String To Currency Properly
Jun 28, 2011I am trying to convert "-10,00" from a string into a currency using the Swedish culture. Here is my code:
ByVal ci As System.Globalization.CultureInfo("sv-SE")
Convert.ToDecimal("-10,00").ToString("C", ci)
The output from the above code is: -1.000,00 kr, which is wrong. It should be -10,00 kr. Is there anything wrong with my approach?
The solution is to pass the cultureInfo into the ToDecimal function as a second parameter.
ByVal ci As System.Globalization.CultureInfo("sv-SE")
Convert.ToDecimal("-10,00", ci).ToString("C", ci)
Properly Handling Connection Timeout?
Apr 4, 2012How do you actually handle connection Timeout to the database.Given a scenario where you are processing data half way through and the database crashed . So your connection between the database and your application would be broken. Most likely throw an exception error if u handle exceptions.What are your suggestions or your preferred way of handling such scenarios.

VS 2005 - Counter Not Incrementing Properly?
Apr 7, 2010why my counter is not working properly. It starts by counting all of the files in a directory and everything is set to 0 initially at the start of the program. For some reason when I debug it in certain places the counter increments correctly but with no debugging and once it reaches my DoSql function the counter is not set to the correct number of files anymore.. Below is my code, filesRemaining should be initially set to the number of files then decrement everytime.. when I debug this method itself it works fine but say I put a debug point elsewhere or don't debug at all the counter is not right.

VS 2005 AcroPDF Not Loading Properly?
Nov 11, 2009I have a desktop application that shows a list of pdfs, and when the user selects one it shows it to him/her. I use the AcroPDF control for this, and it seems to work, but if the user goes back and forth between viewing the file and viewing the list, then the control randomly decides not to show the file (showing a blank page instead).

Apr 9, 2009The app Im working on is dunning on an embedded xp machine. It recieves input from the serial port from an industrial process, and then a backgroundworker class calculates and updates the single form GUI with the results from the process. Very simple.Now, the customer want to allow automatic download of log files by an USB memory. The process should work like this:
1)User plug in an usb memory
2)SHow a virtual keypad (touch screen) where the user enter a security code
3)If code ok, show a 3 choice screen, if not ok show error message and allow the user to try again.
4) If user choose the "export all" button, this choose form will close and i display another form with a progress bar that show how all files are copied to the usb memory. When this process is complete, I will display teh form that says "remove the usb memory and press ok to restart the application.
As you see here lots of forms are created and disposed based on user choices. My biggest issue here is that I have no clear design pattern to work from.For example.. should I have this "chain" in the main gui form, or should I let each form create the next form. For example on the "select action" form, when I press export, should this form create and show the "copy progress" form, or should all forms be created and destroyed from the main gui form?
Also, such an issue like with the password. I put it as a constant on the main form, to avoid "magic numbers" in the code. And then I ran into problem because the "keypad" form is created on another thread and I can't access the costant on the main form, so I got a cross thread exception.Everything starts when an USB memory is connected. And the OnConnected eventhandler is running on a different thread than the main UI thread. how to design this chain of window creation/deletion is greatly appreciated. I show all forms with the SHowDialog because I dont want the user to be able to close the form unless he/she presses a button. And not by accident press somewhere else.

What I mean by that is if I have a sub called ImportData and in there I have a for loop to go through a list of files and in the for loop I call another sub routine called CheckData. All have catch error in. If a sub has a catch error in where does it go from its call.

VS 2005 - Error Handling While Updating Contacts
Feb 18, 2011I have a for loop going through customers and for each customer a update a list of contacts. If there is an error updating the contacts I want it to move on to the next customer and if there is an error in the customer update I want it to move on to the next customer. At the moment if I get an error it bombs out of the routine. Here is a simple example:-

If I get errors in the contact for loop or the customer loop it comes out of the routine altogether. I just want it to either continue to the next contact or customer.

Dec 7, 2010I started out with just one table called products but I had problems with doing an update; it said sql to complex which was because the product table had nearly 100 columns in. The products table consists of header information like product quality, colour etc. Then there are 3 blocks of columns which mainly consist of a size as being the column name and a quantity as being the value. I have put these in three seperate tables to get around the SQL update problem. My problem is what is the best way to code this. The tables link to the header table using an autonumber primary key.

Mar 17, 2009Decimal type columns have Precision and Scale where the length of the integral part of the decimal would be Precision - Scale, if the Precision is 4 and the Scale is 2 then the integral part can only contain 2 digits (4-2). As such I will probably need a control that I could set how much it should accept on its integral part. In that regard I am not sure which control is best for such cases, I could try to make a usercontrol that will handle that but is there any other control out there that I could utilize for this purpose, intrinsic to .Net or a custom control out there? I could also just validate the data keyed-in but the above solution seem to be more user-friendly. Curiously, when databinding such Decimal type columns, how is it handled when the specified integral part exceeds the allowable size (Precision minus Scale)?

I am wondering, since I am creating all these ToolStripMenuItems in code, how would I handle the "CheckStateChanged" event on all of them separately? Or how can I figure out which one of those ToolStripMenuItems was clicked?

the following code however keeps the Image File locked until the application is running, any suggestions how to dispose it properly. (So that no handle is left open )

In this case the GetPosition control is returning a robot axis position. It looks to me like the values coming back from the function is not getting converted to object type properly.
Currency Conversion In .net?

Need to make sure an already supplied float is treated as a currency value, ie: 123.3 is displayed as 123.30 In VBA you would have just used the CCur() function (yes I am new to VB.net) but I cannot find an equivalent function in VB.net, only the use of the Decimal.ToString() method to do this and for this to work you need to cast the decimal value to 2 floating points using the Decimal.Round method first, ie:

Just need to know this would be the normal practise in VB.net for achieving my goal.
