VS 2005 - Searching For Particular Entry In MDB Table

Nov 10, 2009

I made some progress and I am succesfully reading in reading in two columns of data to my DataGridView but now I am stuck. I have to search the first column for a particular number the read in that row and put the data in a variable to use, how do I search through this data?

Here is what I have so far:
vb
Private Sub RetrieveContacts()
Dim conn As New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OleDb.4.0;Data Source=" & Application.StartupPath & "myTest.mdb")
Dim adapter As New OleDbDataAdapter("SELECT [PN], [SIZE] FROM MYTABLE", conn)
Dim dt As New DataTable("MYTABLE")
adapter.Fill(dt)
dgContacts.DataSource = dt
End Sub

VS 2005 : Searching Data Table?

Nov 3, 2009

I am having to create a data adapter to pull data into a dataset, then loop through that dataset in order to add information into a new column from a separate data source. My first data source is access. My second data source is oracle. Here is the code I have to do this, which works well when I show it in a grid.

Dim da As New OleDbDataAdapter("SELECT tblSummary.WorkOrderNumber, tblLabor.Crew, tblLabor.NumberOfMechanics, tblLabor.NumberOfHoursPerMechanic, tblTasks.TaskNumber, tblTasks.TaskDescription FROM (tblLabor tblLabor INNER JOIN tblTasks tblTasks ON tblLabor.TaskID=tblTasks.TaskID) INNER JOIN tblSummary tblSummary ON tblTasks.JobPlanNumber=tblSummary.JobPlanNumber WHERE

[code]....

how I can search through this data table. For instance, I want to see only rows that are in this data table that have "Replace" somewhere in the "Description" field, which is the field I added from my second data source. How do I do this? Is there an easier way to do all this instead of filling my dataset from the first source and then adding columns from the second source by looping?

Increment A Entry In A Sql Table Via Asp.net By 1?

Apr 1, 2011

I have a database containing usernames and "points". I need to increment the "points" at will. I have the table connected to a sqldatasource.

Here is my current code:

With Users
.UpdateCommand = "UPDATE Users SET points = points + 1"
.Update()
End With

This works great, except, instead of just changing the entry with the username specified by a QueryString, it changes all of the entries and adds one.The sqldatasource has the following select command:

SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [Users] WHERE ([username] = @username)"

This command makes it so that only entries with the querystring specified username are displayed. This is really my first attempt at SQL.

Dynamicly Displayed DropDownList If Multiple Entry Exists In Table?

Apr 9, 2012

I'm trying to create an option to select a specific entry in a SQL table if multiples exists. The Sub listed below is for a textbox (MOTxt) and a button (GotMO) for checking an MO# to pull from SQL. Based on the number entered, will populate other text boxes on the page with that row's data. There are exceptions to this, where the MONumber will be entered more than once with different data associated with each entry. So, here's my situation. If we have a duplicate MONumber listed in the table, it will populate the textboxes with the first entry it finds for an update.I would like to create a dynamic dropdownlist (that displays only if multiples are found) displaying the 'Name' field entries for each MONumber found, then once the correct name is selected from that list, to then populate the textboxes with that selected datarow.Here's my code behind:

Protected Sub GotMONum_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles GotMO.Click
Dim da As New SqlDataAdapter

Setting Up One That Picks Up An Entry In One Data Table And Then Sums A Field?

Jan 9, 2011

Im pretty use to doing loops (although still relative new to vb) in my code however am having difficulty setting up one that picks up an entry in one data table and then sums a field in another where records have matching criteria. Example:

[Code]...

What i am trying to do is set up a datagridview on a form that shows the summary data. The time is controlled on the form by a trackbar (output to textbox) and I started setting up a loop using (For/Next) to isolate firstly the matching entries in field 3 (time). This works fine. I then used compute to sum the the field 2. However what i want to do is to loop through table 2 and where entries match i.e. where Field 1 in table 2="A" sum matching entries in table 1 where the DateTime matches.

Searching Table Records In 2008 Express

VS 2008 Searching Through Records In A Data Table

Jan 13, 2011

I'm trying to write code that allows a search for a particular record in a data table. The table, imported from an access database has 4 columns, the first being names of cities. I need to search for a particular city and have it display the city name and the other three columns of data for that row in particular text boxes. Here is my code...it is the last sub routine that is the problem...I'm tying myself in noob-ish knots trying to figure out nested loops etc to search... (I've commented some of it out whilst I tried to figure it out but I'm running out of time and patience and my knowledge of VB is limited!!)

Simple Looping - Create Multiple Form Fields For Each Entry In Underlying Database Table

Nov 24, 2009

I am trying to create a form which will be fed by an underlying database to create multiple form fields for each entry in an underlying database table. This is for a program to monitor patients under anesthesia, and prior to surgery, the doctor will choose which monitors they will be using. Then, on the actual monitor screen which will pop up every X minutes, there will be a text box and a check box for each chosen monitor. I am relatively new to VB, so I have tried to illustrate what I am needing but using the logic that I know from my previous life in PHP.

I am using DevExpress's layout control to place the form fields, so that is the code in the middle of the first loop (on_load), and I know that part works, I just need to know how to name the fields and then recover those fields and commit the values to the database. (the text boxes are added to the database, the check boxes are used to determine if an entry is made for that monitor- i.e. at the end of surgery if a monitor is turned off). I know that my syntax for naming the fields is no where close to correct, and it probably would not work in PHP, but I remember doing something like this in a PHP application I built long ago. Forms :: Auto-Detect BarCode Scan Entry OR Manual Entry - Cash Register?

Sep 8, 2009

i am pulling together a cash register that will allow both bar code product entry and manual key entry.imagine if you have a tin of beans in front of you, in a small corner shop they would probably type "47" and then hit "Produce". Fairly straight forward as I have the button Produce to act upon my code and update my salestrans.mdb but,if you scan the bar code I want the same form to handle both 'real' actions, (i assume that keyboard emulation barcode scanner includes "ENTER" after providing 13 digits)....

Q. in perhaps a long winded way i want to know how to kick off an event based on the "ENTER" key being activiated by the barcode scanner)?i do not want to have to hit any buttons if i am scanning bar codes.

Communications :: Differentiating Bar Code Entry To Keyboard Entry?

Jul 10, 2009

I am trying to make a program with a bar code reader for the first time. I am programming with VB 2005. I want to differentiate a bar code entry to keyboard entry. My questions:

1. Does bar code reader generate a keydown (or keypress) event for each of the digits of the entry? For example, if the barcode read: 1234567890, does that mean that there will be 10 keydown (or keypress) events for that single barcode that was read?

2. I have read from the posts that the best way to differentiating keyboard vs bar code input is to analyse the time between keystroke (for less than certain number of milliseconds).
