Searching Another Table Not Using Foreign Key?

I have an application where I need to be able to search for the workers related to a company from a contacts list. I am able to do this by entering the company number but I am unsure how I can set the query to allow to search for the information in the other table.

WHERE CompanyID = @companyNo I think that I need to create a join in the SQL statement to the company table but am unsure how to go about this and I would be grateful if someone would give me a point in the right direction so that i can search for the company name instead of the companyID.

Is there a simple way that I can replace a foreign key in a datatable, with a corresponding value from the table that the key is referring to, without having to create a new table or use tableadapter? Ive got a table that has a foreign key to a child table, and I need to get a column from that table to fill a dataview?

I'm trying to use a DataTable to get the schema of a SQL Server DB.But, when try to detect the ForeignKeys, the constraints collection only brings the UNIQUE constraints.

I have an Access database where I want to store the contacts in a company: In this database I have a table named "users" where I keep the users which will have access to the database. In the main table, named "contacts", two of my fields "insert_user" and "contact_user" refer to the user who entered the contact information and the user who actually made the contact. The way I am thinking it, I will have to set both of the fields as foreign keys to the same table/field, namely "users"/"username".
So:
I set two foreign key constrains in two different fields ("insert_user", "contact_user"), which refer to the same table/field ("users"/"username") in an
Access database, using VB.Net OleDB (See the SQL Statement below)
ALTER TABLE contacts ADD CONSTRAINT insert_user_foreignkey FOREIGN KEY (insert_user) REFERENCES users (username)
ALTER TABLE contacts ADD CONSTRAINT contact_user_foreignkey FOREIGN KEY (contact_user) REFERENCES users (username)
I open the database with MS-Access. I see that all the tables are fine (as they should be).
However when I click on relationships at Access I get all my tables plus a table named users_1 connected to "contacts"/"contact_user" (the table users is only connected to "contacts"/"insert_user")
It is very strange that in the Table View of Access I don't see this table, but only in the Relationships View.
Questions
Is my thinking right (to set 2 foreign keys, that refer to the same table/field)? What is this table "users_1"? Will my database work or am I doing something wrong?

On my form, I'm trying to display information about a grade. I'm using a DataSet with BindingSources and TableAdapters. Using the tip from here, I'm populating the selected grade's ID, HazardType_ID and Code. Unfortunately, I want to display the the HazardType, and not the foreign key index. I've accomplished this with the following

I want to insert data into my tables. Table 1 (Recipes1) has a primary key (Autonumber) Table 2 (Ingredients) has a Foreign key with the same name as the primary key in Table2 ("RecipeNumber) this is a normal number field. The problem is that when i update the tables, it does not even make it past table1 , which should be ok.

I have 2 Tables , OrderDetails and Requests In my LINQ to SQL dbml file. OrderDetailsID is a foreign key in Requests Table.
I want to write the query to get the sum of UnitCost from OrderDetails based on OrderId. And If there is a row in Requests Table for each OrderDetailsID, and the Requests.Last.RequestType="Refund" I want to reduce the total refund amount from the main sum otherwise If there is no row based on OrderDetailsID, add to sum.
Here is the way I implement that. I am looking to prevent using "For each".

I'm currently trying to create a function to parse error messages to make them more helpful for the end user. Currently I'm working with SQLServer and VB.NET.
Right now I'm raising error 547 which looks like this:
DELETE statement conflicted with COLUMN REFERENCE
constraint Constraint Name. The conflict occurred
in database 'Database Name', table 'Table Name',

I'm able to pull every piece of information I need from the error message except the name of the parentTable. I've already determined that the SqlException doesn't store the statement that caused the exception, and as far as I can tell it doesn't store information about the name of the parent table, only the table that is trying to reference it.
Is there an easy way to get the name of the parentTable?

I am using a number of tables on my application and two of which have a foreign key constraint I have set between them. When I change the account number on the main table via a combo box all of the relevant information for that table on the form is updated accordingly. However, the child table which has a foreign key reference to the Account Number of the main table is not updated when the acocunt number is changed. I have set the update to cascade in the references but still am having issues.

I would like to have a pop up messagebox that asks users for confirmation before deleting a record in datagridview and if the record is a foreign key to another table, another messagebox will appear and warns users saying" before you can delete this record, make sure you remove all the related records" I have tried but I don't know how to complete it.

I am pulling the computer model from the bios, the passing the result into some SQL to find it in a table (as the bios name, and the names in the database are different).If it exist, it writes the value from the database to a combo box (cbModelBios)I am trying to debug the case where the computer model does not exist in the table.I figured I would just try to see if the SQL statement returned null, but I am still getting an error [code]

I am currently updating an application I wrote to view Car Insurance Policies, using a backed SQL database and a front end vb.net GUI. I now need to make a change.
I haev added a new table which has all Active Policies, and i have the old table with every policy there has been active or not. We do an import from a separate company, and there is no Active/Not Active field.

I made some progress and I am succesfully reading in reading in two columns of data to my DataGridView but now I am stuck. I have to search the first column for a particular number the read in that row and put the data in a variable to use, how do I search through this data?

I am having to create a data adapter to pull data into a dataset, then loop through that dataset in order to add information into a new column from a separate data source. My first data source is access. My second data source is oracle. Here is the code I have to do this, which works well when I show it in a grid.

I have a form that reads the data from the database table ( so you can see I have figured out how to attach to a databse table)On the form I can scroll through the data with use of the binding navigator that VB automaticly installed on the form, but I need to search the table for specific data in one field.I am guessing that one way is to use a query, but I can't figure out how to use one.I realize that this may be real simple, but because I am just learning VB, I don't know where to start.

I'm trying to write code that allows a search for a particular record in a data table. The table, imported from an access database has 4 columns, the first being names of cities. I need to search for a particular city and have it display the city name and the other three columns of data for that row in particular text boxes. Here is my code...it is the last sub routine that is the problem...I'm tying myself in noob-ish knots trying to figure out nested loops etc to search... I got a problem I need to search by First Name OR Surname. So the user can enter one or the other or BOTH.
So here's what I got I set two primary keys to try and find the row but I'm gettin all sorts of problems, for example when I set FirstName & Surname as primary key which you need to do to use the find method i get an error as it expects two values..

I have a form with comboboxes, if the user doesnt select a value in the box I want a null to be sent to the database. The insert works fine, i look at the record in the db and see the null. The update doesnt work. gives me a n "Update statement conflicted with foreign key constaint....."

As I step through the selected value of the cbox 5 is shown as nothing (which it should be because the user didnt select a value for this combobox). I assume this needs to be a null instead of nothing to get written to the database. the combox boxes need to match a primary key in another table so sending a 0 would also result in the forieign key error since the related table does not have a 0 ID field.

I have a parent table called users which stores all the user info with a prime key field called ID. Now in the child table which has a seperate foreign key associated with the ID field in the parent table.
What I would like to do is be able to populate the foreign key once once the user uploads data into the child table with the user ID it has.
So far I have created the associated foreign key with ID field in the user table and also programmly through data-relation related the table but now sure on how to get the value from the relation.
The foreign key in the child table is called 'U_ID' as shown in the snipet velow.

I'm developing an app in VB.Net (Visual Studio Express 2008, on Windows Vista) that connects to an Access relational database. The database has 3 related tables (TextSections, LineItems, Cycles) that I'm loading into my dataset. I've set up two foreign key constraints and want all changes to cascade through the related records in the child tables. I cannot get the cascades to reflect through.
For example, when I delete the parent record, the children records remain (in the database - they are removed from the dataset). Also, when I modify the parent record (change the Description field for example), the change is not reflected in the dataset datatable that holds the children records - unless I go through and ReLoad all of the data from the database and re-Set the constraints. I have set the .AcceptChanges, .UpdateRule, and .DeleteRule to cascade, and have also set EnforceConstraints on the dataset. Why aren't the changes cascading through the children?
Below I've pasted (1) the Load Routines for my datatables TextSections (parent), LineItems (child), and Cycles (child of LineItems); (2) the method that creates the constraints in the dataset, and (3) The Save routine for TextSections.

I'm using a dataset class written by others who have defined the foreign key relationships between tables using the tools in the schema diagram. I'm binding the dataclass to a windows form. I'm running into an issue where I have an existing header record and I'm trying to insert data into a child table via a grid programmatically. The child table contains all keys for data. As the grid is bound to a binding source, I'm simply adding rows directly to the grid programmatically.
When I attempt to save the data, I get the error ForeignKeyConstraint FX_Activity_UserRoleActivity Requires Child Key Values (4) to exist in the parent table. The value (4) is one of the foreign key values and it does exist in the parent table. The error occurs when I tell the bindingsource associated to the child table on the form to EndEdit. Looking at the XSD file for the dataset, both foreign keys are set up for 'Both Foreign and Key Constraint' with Cascade set for both update rule and delete rule. Accept/Reject rule is set to none.
Running a SQL trace, I confirmed that SQL Server is not generating the error, so it is occurring on the client application somewhere. First what does the error actually mean? Second, does the configuration of the foreign key relationship in the dataset's XSD file have anything to do with it? If so how should the foreign keys be set up between the tables? If it isn't how would you go about troubleshooting this issue as stepping through the code ends with the .EndEdit call to the binding source.

I'm having some major issues trying to figure out What's going wrong with my code.
