VS 2005 : Searching Data Table?

I am having to create a data adapter to pull data into a dataset, then loop through that dataset in order to add information into a new column from a separate data source. My first data source is access. My second data source is oracle. Here is the code I have to do this, which works well when I show it in a grid.

how I can search through this data table. For instance, I want to see only rows that are in this data table that have "Replace" somewhere in the "Description" field, which is the field I added from my second data source. How do I do this? Is there an easier way to do all this instead of filling my dataset from the first source and then adding columns from the second source by looping?

I made some progress and I am succesfully reading in reading in two columns of data to my DataGridView but now I am stuck. I have to search the first column for a particular number the read in that row and put the data in a variable to use, how do I search through this data?
Here is what I have so far:

I'm trying to write code that allows a search for a particular record in a data table. The table, imported from an access database has 4 columns, the first being names of cities. I need to search for a particular city and have it display the city name and the other three columns of data for that row in particular text boxes. Here is my code...it is the last sub routine that is the problem...I'm tying myself in noob-ish knots trying to figure out nested loops etc to search... (I've commented some of it out whilst I tried to figure it out but I'm running out of time and patience and my knowledge of VB is limited!!)

I got a problem I need to search by First Name OR Surname. So the user can enter one or the other or BOTH.
So here's what I got I set two primary keys to try and find the row but I'm gettin all sorts of problems, for example when I set FirstName & Surname as primary key which you need to do to use the find method i get an error as it expects two values..

I would like to know the best, or standard, way to accomplish real-time client updates in a small multi-user application using an access data table as a data source.
Specifically, this application will be used by 3-4 people. It uses a datatable which is filled on form load and bound to a datagrid at design time. The datatable is stored on a shared drive. The data table on the shared drive is updated in two ways:
1) Users can update the datagrid which then updates the datatable on the shared drive via the data adapter's Update method.
2) A server application does some work on some text files, periodically updating the data table.
I need the clients to reflect the changes to the data table on the shared drive as closely to real-time as possible. I know that the data table stored in memory on the client is disconnected from the data table on the shared drive, so I must query again to get the updates.
I have two questions:
1) Is there an alternvative model I can use which is connected, and which will automatically reflect the updates in the data table on the shared drive?
2) If not, what is the best way to check for changes in the data table (so I can know when to call the data adapter fill method)? I am planning to poll the drive for a change to the .mdb file, raise an event and then fill the data adapter when the event is triggered. I am using this method successfully now to check for changes to a text file in another application, and I know how to implement it

have made the data table in vb code, and it works flawlessly. It gets its values from labels which are part of a calculation.It shows the information to the user in a datagridview. Now i would like it to add new rows and fill them in if the user has already entered the data once and it has been logged in the datagridview.here is the current

Currently I add data to a hash table, then later on I loop through the hash table. To my horror I discovered that when you use FOR EACH with a hash table it doesn't return the items in the order you added them.I'm looking for a collection that I can add, edit and delete items from and loop through from start to end in that order.

I start with a text file containing information such as this: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 12:00:00.1, 12:00:00.1, 12:00:00.1, 12:00:00.1, 12:00:00.1 I made up the values of course but the idea is exactly the same. I need to have an if statement that if the text document has a record of Monday, then it is to put something like an X in the corresponding column in a data table. I'm sure I confused this way more than need be but I hope you get the most of it and I can elaborate if need be.

I am pulling the computer model from the bios, the passing the result into some SQL to find it in a table (as the bios name, and the names in the database are different).If it exist, it writes the value from the database to a combo box (cbModelBios)I am trying to debug the case where the computer model does not exist in the table.I figured I would just try to see if the SQL statement returned null, but I am still getting an error [code]

I have an application where I need to be able to search for the workers related to a company from a contacts list. I am able to do this by entering the company number but I am unsure how I can set the query to allow to search for the information in the other table.

I am currently updating an application I wrote to view Car Insurance Policies, using a backed SQL database and a front end vb.net GUI. I now need to make a change.
I haev added a new table which has all Active Policies, and i have the old table with every policy there has been active or not. We do an import from a separate company, and there is no Active/Not Active field.

I have a form that reads the data from the database table ( so you can see I have figured out how to attach to a databse table)On the form I can scroll through the data with use of the binding navigator that VB automaticly installed on the form, but I need to search the table for specific data in one field.I am guessing that one way is to use a query, but I can't figure out how to use one.I realize that this may be real simple, but because I am just learning VB, I don't know where to start.

I know how to search for one specific number from a single line in an access database using a query, but now I have to search through a whole database and display each instance. Ex) I search the number "1" in column "1" of the database and it has "2" instances. So now I have to take the corresponding data in the rows next to it in order to display them in the label.
search: "1", both results are ID = "1"
results:
dates amount
10/13/2009 $43.00
12/25/2009 $86.00
I know how to put the results for "1" line of a database into the .item field, but im confused on how to search multiple lines of a database and store multiple items. Heres what I have so far...

I'm in the process of moving from ADO.NET to Linq. The application is a directory search program to look people up. The users are allowed to type the search criteria into a single textbox. They can separate each term with a space, or wrap a phrase in quotes such as "park place" to indicate that it is one term.
Behind the scenes the data comes from a XML file that has about 90,000 records in it and is about 65 megs. I load the data into a DataTable and then use the .Select method with a SQL query to perform the searches. The query I pass is built from the search terms the user passed. I split the string from the textbox into an array using a regular expression that will split everything into a separate element that has a space in it. However if there are quotes around a phrase, that becomes it's own element in the array. I then end up with a single dimension array with x number of elements, which I iterate over to build a long query.
I then build the search expression below:

I will include a link to a copy of my source Code. The Problem is that I have to create a user management system. I have almost all my features working but there are one or two I can't get working. When the program loads a text file is read and the program lists the first name of everyone in the text file into a list box. I want to be able to get so that when you click a name in the list box, the persons information will be displayed in the text boxes to the left. And also when you edit those text boxes you can click the button for modify current and it will modify that persons data. The other problem I'm having is being able to search that text file for the users e-mail and return the first names of people who have that e-mail into the listbox.

i am currently working on a database project using Microsoft Access 2007 and VB Express 2008.my problem is, i want to create a searching function in one of my tables; table Coachee. I know that it is possible to search data using bindingsource.filter as i've already succeeded in doing that.
