have made a connection to a database through VB and i was able to extract a single value from a record and display it in a datagrid table, but i don't know how to display that value in a textbox. i tried doing e.g. txtABC.text = datagrid123.item but it seems that the values cannot be converted between the datagrid and the textbox.

i've made a small tool that searches an access DB in back end & dumps the results in a Datagridview, now i want to export those results to excel, after googling i found a code that does it for me , it's working partially for me. It writes the Headers to a new excel file but then for some reason i getting below error (on the blue line in code):

Is it possible to have a Textbox on a form that when the user inputs data, ( during Runtime )that data remains in the Textbox for good and the Textbox then becomes read only ? Is it also possible to make it so that the CD with the programme on, is in the PC when the programme is being used. Perhaps writing the Textbox data back onto the CD ?

View 2 RepliesI need some suggestions on how to tackle this issue. I am fairly new to using ADO.NET and am running into difficulty populating a dataGrid.Basically here is what I want to accomplish:
a) on form open the dgvLOCATION populates with any records found in the database that match the customer ID that is displayed in a text box (the textbox will already have a value when the form opens)
b) when the value of the Customer ID textbox changes then the dgvLOCATION will change (I am already going to do this with a text changed event...I am just having problems with the query)
I am using VS Studio 2005 and connecting to an Oracle 10g database.I have also created a 'view' for the dataGrid since it will not any binding.Currently the dataGrid will populate will ALL database records on 'form open' if the field value of Customer ID is not null.
I am using the Query Builder wizard and when I enter the following I get an error.Select C_ID, ST_NUM, ST_NAME, CITY, RESIDENCE From CUSTOMER_LOCATION_VIEW Where C_ID = :TXTCID.TEXT
The error tells me that the query could not be parsed.
Is it possible to select a row in a datagrid and display the contents of one of the columns in a text box ??
View 5 RepliesI would like to know the best, or standard, way to accomplish real-time client updates in a small multi-user application using an access data table as a data source.
Specifically, this application will be used by 3-4 people. It uses a datatable which is filled on form load and bound to a datagrid at design time. The datatable is stored on a shared drive. The data table on the shared drive is updated in two ways:
1) Users can update the datagrid which then updates the datatable on the shared drive via the data adapter's Update method.
2) A server application does some work on some text files, periodically updating the data table.
I need the clients to reflect the changes to the data table on the shared drive as closely to real-time as possible. I know that the data table stored in memory on the client is disconnected from the data table on the shared drive, so I must query again to get the updates.
I have two questions:
1) Is there an alternvative model I can use which is connected, and which will automatically reflect the updates in the data table on the shared drive?
2) If not, what is the best way to check for changes in the data table (so I can know when to call the data adapter fill method)? I am planning to poll the drive for a change to the .mdb file, raise an event and then fill the data adapter when the event is triggered. I am using this method successfully now to check for changes to a text file in another application, and I know how to implement it

I want it so every time I click an ITEM in the Listbox it displays ALL the data into the textbox. I know there's an easy way using table adapters and binding the listbox, but I'd prefer to do it this way for my project.
So this is what I got.

It only adds the first rows details to the text box when I click the second record the first rows details are still there.

That code works to read the entry data and to recognise the correct data, and the incorrect. However, even if entry is correct, the error msgbox will appear (x times of how many records there are in file), despite being navigated to the menu. Anyway that the Else isn't triggered when data is correct. Also for it to appear just one instead of (x times of how many records there are in file.)
I had all my fields on a form. THey became to many for the one form, so i moved them to a Tabcontrol. I split the fields over 5 Tabs. I did not change the code.Now , when i load the form, it does not connect to the data until i click on the tab. How can i fix this.

View 1 RepliesI have a few forms that the user uses to select data records and then perform some analysis on them.So the selected records are presented in a datagrid and each in turn it reviewed and the analysis data added to the extra columns, works very.
However, if the user clicks on a column to sort the grid, the unbound fields are not sorted with it, just blanked out. I can prevent them from sorting, but it would be nice if it could sort the full grid.

there is no any way to add data to the Gridview if we bound it to the Database.
I have a form with datagridview. I populate my datagrid with my dataset data.
Everything is going fine.
The only issue i found is.
if i lock the system and leave the form with datagridview containing data it it, and after some time (say 10 mins, when monitors goes to standby mode) if i unlock the system i see that the datagrid is empty. but a window with label has no effect its intact.
