I have a WinForms app that has a DGV that's bound to a BindingSource and when the user clicks on the new row line @ the bottom I would like it to fill in two columns values automatically but I'm not sure which event is fired when that row is switches to user editing mode.

When they add a new row while a sort is applied, the record isn't created until the moment they validate the row(which they cannot do till they exit the newRow). How can I make the row be selected once it is sorted?The DataGridView is databound.The selection mode for the grid is full row.I'm using VB.NET with SQLite database backend.I suspect I need to use the RowsAdded event, or DataBindingComplete events. The records in question do have a unique GUID attached but it is NOT visible in the DataGridView.
View 1 RepliesI have a Windows Form VS2010 .NET 4 project with a standard DataGridView bound to a datasource on a form.
The grid has a text column that I want to be a point and edit at the character clicked to. Like normal textbox/editors when you click on the character you want to adjust. If possible I would also like to use the UP/DOWN keys to move between rows but would like the cursor to move to the same character position obviously in the same column without selecting the entire text.
I have tried a few things:
DataGridView1.ClearSelection()
DataGridView1.BeginEdit(False)
The BeginEdit just puts the cursor at the end of the text, which means another click to point to the character position for editing.
I know a Commercial grid like DevExpress defaults to editing in which you can click to the correct character position with one click but obviously costs money.

I am just trying to remove the two or three clicks to get to the character position that needs adjustment.
I've used DataAnnotations attribute DisplayName successfully using MVC model binding, and even with WPF/Silverlight model binding and of course it works just fine, but now I'm on a project that I'm forced to use VB.NET 3.5 WinForms.
I have a Linq2Sql model and I created a partial class for one of my classes and included a MetadataType attribute to point to a metadata class. I added a DisplayName attribute to a property in the metadata class. I then bind my datagridview with an IQueryable(Of mydatatype), but the column name in the grid is the Property's name and not the DisplayName.
Am I missing something? Is there something else I need to do to get the datagridview to use the DisplayName?

I'm using a DataGridView in VB.Net in VS 2005. The issue is, when there are rows that exceed the width of the DataGridView, the horizontal scroll bar doesn't appear (the ScrollBars property is set to "Both"), but an ellipsis appears at the end of each row that is too long. I don't want the ellipsis, but the horizontal scroll bar. The vertical scroll bar works as expected when the number of rows exceed the height of the DataGridView.
I have tried setting numerous related properties (changing the AutoSizing property of the DataGridView, Resizability of the Row Template, made sure that no Columns were Frozen) to no avail.
I have a windows form with a DataGridView control.I bound it into an attached DB file (.mdf).I perform insertion by generating a dynamic Insert statement. I then pump this sql statement into a SqlCommand object and perform ExecuteNonQuery() method. All of these is performed by handling a Button click event. After the code execution, the DataGridView is not updating (remains intact). I have to exit the form and reload it to have the updated gridview.For certain reasons, I can't use DataTable object.But I would like to have this gridview updated everytime I run the insertion.
I have a DGV I am working on, and I have many columns.
For example I have Columns colIsDayOff (Checkbox), colStartTime(Time), colEndTime(Time)
What I need to do is if when my DGV loads the data if colIsDayOff is checked, then make the value of the Start and End time columns blank, invisible, or something.

I've got a method that makes a request to a service that queries an SQL database, and then adds the result of the query in a datagridview row. I call that method in a "for each" loop.
It looks like this:
For each item in BigListContainingHundredofItems

Basically hundreds of inputs are sent to the "for each" loop, and the way I've written it now it becomes "Not Responding" until all the rows have been added to the form (I can see the scrollbar handle size shrinking, which means rows are getting added).But I'd like to know how to keep everything responsive, and I think multi-threading or background worker thread might be the solution. I just wanted to get some input/feedback from the community.
I've come up against a rather tricky problem that I cant seem to find an answer to.I have a WinForms program that runs locally on a PC with a SQL Server Express database to store its data.There is also a remote database that i need to save data to the first time that the program is run (a registration type thing).
The remote database will only accept connections from known IP adresses so to get around this, I have set up an ASP.NET site on the server that the remote database resides on and the data will be saved from here.
In my program, I have a form that has a webbrowser component on it that points to the asp site (with me so far?).The user fills in the form and clicks a button on the form that will fire the form to submit, save the data on the remote DB and retrieve a serial number that is displayed on the screen.

Is it possible to set a project default for VB.NET winforms projects so that the default Modifier for controls added to winforms is Private (not Friend)?I know there's a "modifiers" property in the properties window so I can set it for each individual control however I would like to change the project so from now on myself and other developers have to specifically decide to change from friend to private. (Which I would strongly discourage them from doing).I believe there is no way of doing this, but on another forum a while ago someone mentioned it would be possible with an add-in (but didn't name the add-in or where to get it).

View 3 RepliesBeen casually working on getting my users out of the DB completely. We use a vb.net app I created as a front-end but there are many reports that were built in Access and I want to give my users a way to open Access and run the report via my WinForms app.
Have gotten as far as being able to open an instance of Access and do what I need to do. Where I left off was running into a problem with not being able to tell if an instance of the msaccess.exe process is running and use it instead of opening another.
There is a panel which contains 2 components: a label and a TreeView. The hierarchy, obviously, looks like this:panel1 // handles Enter event

I need to do some UI updates when user starts interacting with any of these 3 controls. My attempted strategy was to catch the Enter event of the panel, which would fire when user clicks a label, or TreeView. This way, I can write only one (1) event handler instead of several. While it worked for the TreeView, it didn't work for the label. When I click the label, I don't get the Enter event on the panel. Whats different about the label control? I could handle the Click event of the label. At the same time, I wonder what the other solutions might be.
I have a DataGridView where Cell_Validating is being done. I have a Cancel button on my form that allows the user to exit out of the DataGridView changes. The problem is that if a cell was currently flagged as in error, I cannot exit and remove columns from the DataGridView. I get the following error: Operation did not succeed because the program cannot commit or quit a cell value change. Is there a way to cancel the validation once the focus has been removed from the DataGridView? Here is my Cell_Validating

View 2 RepliesI've built a reporting feature in my app that uses a DATAGRIDVIEW to show the results of a stored procedure execution.I've noticed that the datagridview has some nice features - like the user can re-order columns.And I allow them to re-run the report and the "re-execution" nicely fills in the DGV - even if the columns are moved around.Problem is that I also allow them to run different reports - and that column re-ordering and other "retention" features of the DGV are bad.Should I be creating a DGV in the IDE and then cloning that somehow at runtime for each report that is run. As long as they are re-running the same report then I can re-use the DGV like I am now.But if they select a different report then I dispose of the DGV and make a new one.

I believe I have follwed the instructions to allow the user to input new values other than those in the list, however if you create a new project and add a button and a DataGridView control onto the form, then copy and paste this code and run the program, you will find that you cannot type any character in the edit box other then characters that exist in the list and only 1 character will be displayed at a time. I have set the Autocomplete value to 'False' and setting it to 'True' at least allows me to type more than 1 character but still not any strings that don't exist in the list.You can even remark out or not use the entire Call Validating sub routine to see the issue of not being able to type in the cell. View 1 RepliesMaking a comeback after five years, I am greatly impressed by the functionality of the DataGridView.It seems to me that the most obvious omissions are:
1) numeric columns, numeric up/down columns, date columns, list box columns;
2) printing a DataGridView;
3) binding a DataGridView to a database table when the database is selected at run-time. I see that several software houses offer products to complement the standard Microsoft DataGridView feature, all of them at a hefty price. I am satisfied with the RustemSoft product's DataGridView column features but it does not seem to offer any help with printing.Before I spend another $80 on DataGridView software, I would like to find out whether free coding is available for cut-and-paste or download. Maybe these features will be included in the next version of VB.NET but I cannot wait for that.
I am attempting to refresh my datagridview but it does not seem to work. I have a separate frm where people insert data, and then I have a button on the main frm where people can click refresh once the other frm is closed. I click refresh and yet the data does not update in the datagridview

I am using VB.Net 2008 and have build a windows form with a datagridview that displays a query of records for the current client. One of the columns is for Fee. I need to total that column and place the result in a Label or Textbox. I am using the Query builder to pull the records and so I can not get away with the SQL expression in the query returns the Schema does not match error. I have tried to code it pulling the information directly into the form from the Datagridview and could not make that work either.

I am trying to identify the value if a checkbox against a record in a datagrid.
I am trying this:

But I get nothing it works on other fields in the datagridview. The user will de-select records he does not want to authorise. When he has done this I want to update another table with the values that are selected(or True) on a button click event. There could be 100's of records so not sure if this is the best way to go about this.
Right now when I need to refer to a cell to update the text I do it this way:
DG1.Rows(intRow).Cells(1).Value = "Hello!"
Is there a way to use the column name for column #1 rather than the number? This way if I decide to add columns later in an update and it's not at the end of the current columns, I do not have to re-number all my code. I tried searching but must not be looking for the right keywords.
