VS 2008 Event Handler On An External Form / Module
Dec 6, 2009
I have a simple, but important question: How can I raise events of my form1 on another module/form?My form tempalte is crowded with events (50 of them contextmenustrip events)How can I place those events on another form/module to clean it up a little?
The event handlers in my parent class are never called though the events are raised in the child class.
The Code:
Public Class childForm Public Event checkboxchangedEvent(ByVal checkbox1 As Boolean, ByVal checkbox2 As Boolean) Private Sub checkboxchanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles CheckBox1.CheckedChanged, CheckBox2.CheckedChanged
I have a form that is built and loaded dynamically when File/open is selected.however I now want to use the same code to open a default file and populate the form using the Form load event to call:
Private Sub OpenToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles OpenToolStripMenuItem.Click how would I do this? Just incase this doesn't make sense, I want the same code to run during form load as if the user selected file/open but do not know the syntax of how to call OpenToolStripMenuItem_Click() from form load.
I have a Windows form in VS2010 with a rectangular area that I draw in with Graphics.DrawImage for best performance. I want to create a Mouse-move event handler just for that area (to change the cursor when the mouse is inside it), along the lines of handlers for the other controls on the form. But since the rectangle isn't a PictureBox or Panel or other control, I don't see an obvious way to handle it. A mouse-move event handler for the entire form could affect the performance of the app.
Is there a way to run a module in a form using a click event? I am trying to setup a easy user interface where when a button is clicked a module will run and generate information in a table.
I have a windows application that has a tab control with 5 different tabs. Each of these tabs has a datagrid view that is populated with data on form load with data from SQL Server. I have an event handler for the datagrids for CellValueChanged that appends an asterisk, "*" to the tab, when a change is made, this is meant to mimic the same behavior in VS or SSMS. The issue that I have just realized is that on page load as the datagrids are populated this event handler is raised thousand of times. I have included an If Then statement to exit the sub if it occurs during page load, but am concerned about the performance implications, if any. Is there a better way to handle such functionality? Possibly a way to ignore the event handler on form load? If not is there a negative impact leaving this functionality in?
Is thier a way to sort the event handlers within a module/class/form Etc? The IDE add the next event handler and the end while I would like it to put it in place. For example I have already write some event handlers for a textbox named txtEmpname and I have another text box named txtphone. they are ordered in the module in the order created.(i.e. the txtempname_Gotfocus then the lostfocus, then txtphone_gotfocus) Now when I want to add a clcik event for the txtempname the IDE put it at the end while I would like it to put it just before the txtempname_gotfocus.
Can someone help me with the code for an Event Handler for colorAnimation in VB.net. All I get so far is code in c#, which I do not follow very well. Please also show how to call or raise it from a control e.g. a button.
I've recently learned a new trick. I never realized you could write a sub and then handle multiple controls' events right in the sub.instead of handling each controls click event, for example.
if you have this in your Application events: Private Sub MyApplication_UnhandledException(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As Microsoft.VisualBasic.ApplicationServices.UnhandledExceptionEventArgs) _ Handles Me.UnhandledException 'test to make ceratin handlers both fire Debug.WriteLine("AppEventFired") End Sub nd to test it you do this
Throw New Exception("1") shouldn't the Debug.WriteLine("AppEventFired") line execute? It isn't that I can tell and I have checked that I am running in Debug, not Release.
Perhaps surprisingly I haven't added an event handler programatically before and I'm having trouble getting my head around AddHandler.I am creating a series of DataGridView controls in a loop and want to subscribe to the CellFormatting event on each of them. The event handler signature is as follows;Private Sub ConfigureRows(ByVal sender As System.Object, yVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellFormattingEventArgs)This works fine when I enter it in the visual editor properties box but I can't figure out how to give it the correct arguments using AddHandler.
If e.KeyCode = Keys.D0 Or e.KeyCode = Keys.D1 Or e.KeyCode = Keys.D2 Or e.KeyCode = Keys.D3 Or e.KeyCode = Keys.D4 Or e.KeyCode = Keys.D5 Or e.KeyCode = Keys.D6 Or e.KeyCode = Keys.D7 Or e.KeyCode = Keys.D8 Or e.KeyCode = Keys.D9 Or e.KeyCode = Keys.Oemplus Then
[Code]....
The output WILL be 189 when I press the - sign. But when I check "Keys.OemMinus" it stands for 189 and when I replace "Keys.OemMinus" with 189 it won't work either!
I checked the Resources file and it's correct. The picture just doesnt change, only shows the last pressed button...
Simply stated, I want to call the Panel1_Paint event handler from the Button1_Click event. Is this possible? If so, How? IE: Click the button and it paints the panel.
With reference to my previous thread on Paint event handler.. [URL] I went to read up more on Paint Event Handler.. I have a button which draw out a path based on the user selection.. Below contains the drawing of the path portion of the button click event code
[Code]...
However It did not activate the paint event when I clicked on the button.. Instead, the paint event still activate even before I click on the button? So can anyone teach me on how to activate the paint event when I click on a button?
When I double click on a form control while in the design view in a Web Application project within Visual Studio 2010, say a 'button' or a 'submit' for example, it inserts a javascript function into my .aspx file. When I do this at work it automatically creates an event handler for the control in the code-behind.How do I change this to that setting?I don't want to type those event handler subroutines every time!
remove an event handler from within the event handler?
I have a class that gets data from a hand scanner. When the scan is complete and the data is validated, the class fires a custom "ScanComplete" event and returns the data in a custom EventArgs.
In the calling program, I'm creating an instance of the scanning class and adding a handler for the "ScanComplete" event. In the event handler I get the data that was scanned and then remove the handler.
It seems to be working but it feels wrong to remove the handler while I'm running inside the handler. Will this cause a problem?
I am teaching myself VB, and when I try to run this program, I am getting "An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is: Object reference not set to an instance of an object." If I was to declare the variables inside each event handler, the program runs, but why won't it run when I make the scope public? Seems repititous having to declare the variables in every event handler. [code]
Normally, when you create a HTTP module, you create it as separate dll project and register that dll in the web.config.Now, is it possible to write a HTTP module directly in an ASP.NET project, so I don't have to create a separate dll project?Note: Don't say as an added project in the same solution, I mean in the same project.Or would just adding a reference to this dll suffice ?
The title pretty much precisely asks the question, but I shall repeat;
When I double click on a form control while in the design view in a Web Application project within Visual Studio 2010, say a 'button' or a 'submit' for example, it inserts a javascript function into my .aspx file. When I do this at work it automatically creates an event handler for the control in the code-behind.How do I change this to that setting? I have used '/resetsettings' already, and other answers to similar questions do not solve my problem. I have reinstalled, gone through every menu I can find (though I may have missed something)I don't want to type those event handler subroutines every time!
I have an application (app.exe) that has a VB Module in its source code (Module1). The module has a function called Function1. I need to call this function from another application. The module is not marked as public, so adding a reference to app.exe won't work. I'm trying to use reflection (Assembly.LoadFrom()) but unless I'm way off base, the module would have to be a class in order for me to get an instance of it.
Please nobody ask me "what have you tried?" I tried a million different things and let's just say "none of them work." So I'm looking for someone that has specific experience with doing exactly what I'm trying to do. If you don't have that experience, please move on to the next question and ignore mine.
I'm trying to complete this airline reservation application, but having a problem in this part of the question:Creat an event handler for the FlightBindingSource's PositionChanged event: select FlightBindingSource in the class Name combobox then select position changed in method name combobox to creat the FlightBindingSource's PositionChanged event handler. Write a code to access the currently displayed flight object and pass its flightNumber to method DisplayPassengers as a decimal. This Is my code so far:
HTML
Public Class AirlineReservationForm Private database As New ReservationsDataClassesDataContext() Private Sub FillAll()[code].....
When I utilize AddHandler in VB to add my own method to the Click event :
AddHandler Button.Click, AddressOf myButton_Click
I see that my code executes last - after other event handlers for the Button_Click event. Is there a way to insert my event handler in front of other events so that it executes first?
I'm making a simple window that bounces around the screen (no reason, just for fun). I can make it work when the moving code is in a Timer_Tick event in the form, but now that I try to move it out to a module, it won't work. Here's what I have:
[Code]....
I try to call it with Bounce(Me) but the form doesn't move. I added a Debug.WriteLine(form.Location) at the end of the sub, and it shows that the location is not changing.
I have a project that calls for just a ton of forms and I'd like them all centered on screen. Any way to call this in a module? Just trying to minimize the code necessary for each form. This is the basic centering I use now, only it's in each form_load.
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Dim xLoc As Integer = (Screen.PrimaryScreen.Bounds.Width - Me.Width) 2 Dim yLoc As Integer = (Screen.PrimaryScreen.Bounds.Height - Me.Height) 2 Me.Location = New Point(xLoc, yLoc) End Sub
I have a Sub Routine in a module to iterate controls on a form. I get an error about an instance of the object not created.I have declared the object and set it to the form (ModelsBox = Me). I have done this between two forms previously. Is there something fundamental that I am missing. Is this where the "Friend Shared" comes into play?
I've been coding a Windows applicaton for the past seven months but there aren't a lot of "windows" in the application so I have a question on getting and returning data from forms. I display a form and the user makes a listbox selection then presses Ok. Normally I can proceed from there (in a class module) with values from the config file, but sometimes his selection will require me to ask for more information. So I want the class to display a form, pass control to it, then when the user hits OK on this form, return to the class. What is happening is the class continues with all its inline code and function calls and doesn't show the form until the end of its current function.
Dim flClientInputFile As New CFile Dim flPreparedOutputFile As New CFile Dim lRecordCount As Long Dim sProcessing As String Dim sTest As String Dim frmAbc As New frmAbc frmAbc.Show() frmAbc.Activate() x()
When I run and step through this code, I find I'm in x() before I even saw the form. x() needs the data the user has entered on frmAbc in order to continue.
Is it possible to determine using VB.NET whether a certain event has any handlers attached to it? I don't own the event, in this particular case I want to know which of the items in a Windows.Forms.MenuStrip have their ToolstripMenuItem.Click event handled.
