View 2 RepliesI have some code designed to locate a specific process based off of its window text, gather the main handle, and then all of the child windows. However, I have run into one problem. I cannot seem to gather all the handles and their respective text. For example, when I test my program and do a handle count on the specific process, it tells me that there are more than 400 handles for this one process. How do I get the handle pointers for this process and also gather the text associated with these handles.I have included my source code for reference.
Code:Public Class Form1
Const GW_CHILD As Integer = 5 Const GW_HWNDNEXT As Integer = 2 Const WM_GETTEXT As Integer = &HD Const WM_GETTEXTLENGTH As Integer = &HE Const BM_SETSTATE As Integer = &HF3 Const WM_LBUTTONUP As Integer = &H202 Const WM_LBUTTONDOWN As Integer = &H201

How do I get the list of open file handles by process id in C#?
I'm interested in digging down and getting the file names as well.
Looking for the programmatic equivalent of what process explorer does.
Most likely this will require interop.
We needed an inter-process reader/writer lock.We decided to use a file and lock the first byte using LockEx and UnlockEx. The class creates a file in the system temp folder when it is created. The file is created with readwrite access and share read|write|delete. We also specify DeleteOnClose so we don't leave loads of temp files laying around. Obviously AcquireReader and AcquireWriter call LockEx with appropriate flags and ReleaseLock calls UnlockEx.We have tested this class using a small application that you can run several instances of and it works perfectly. The application that uses it has a problem, which we have managed to re-produce in another small test app. In pseudo code it is
Create InterProcessReaderWriter
Dispose InterProcessReaderWriter without acquiring any locks
Launch a child process which takes a reader lock
The first time this runs, it works fine. If you attempt to run it again, while the child process from the first time is still holding the lock, we get an UnauthorisedAccessException when trying to open the file. This appears to be a permission issue, not a sharing violation but all the processes in this test case are running as the same user.
If I have two instances of the same form open, and one is on top of the other and I want to go to the one on the bottom, I have to click the form to bring it to the front.. I changed this so that if i click the panel(which represents the forms background) I have it bring it to the front.. But now I am having the issue where I click a control in that panel it wont bring it to the front.. So i know how to do this.. I can make a procedure handle all the controls onclick events by typing each controls name.click event
View 33 RepliesI need to make program that gets handles of two opened windows that have Same Class and Title. Only difference between them is its positions. And, after I get handles I want to SetForegroundWindow to make windows active when I need to.
My problems are:
a How to get handles of thouse windows (is it possible to do it by WindowFromPoint, since I know positions)?
b How to make thouse handles global after they are determined or pass it to the next Sub?
So I need to grab all the handles and there captions of a window with the Caption "goman" and add them to a listbox

1. I have an array of windows handles (list of window handles) which are windows I want to minimize when I call the ShowWindow API. But when I call it it sometimes minimizes other windows which aren't the windows I had before. I'm guessing that window handles are changed when other windows are being opened, is there is any option to detect a window in other way? like identity or something like that?
2. I'm trying to change a window size by using the SetWindowPos, but the problem is that I'm using this API while I'm dragging a window which causes the window to change the size for a sec and then go back to the same size, how can I change the window size while I'm dragging it?
3. When a left mouse button is up I want to maximize a window, but when I'm using the ShowWindow API right after the left mose button is up it causes the window to maximize for a sec and then go back I could fix that adding a delay:[code...]
4. Another question, can anyone give me an example on how to put a window right behind other window? (I guess changing something in the Z order?) I already got the two windows handles.
one button on/off disable, enable any button like Handles Button1.Click i want to disable or enable part of the program?

Just upgraded a VS 2005 ASP.NET 2.0 website to VS 2008 ASP.NET 3.5. There was an error on the Sub Button_Click. It seemed to be a minor error, the website and the button worked just fine, as usual. What does the error mean?

I have written a windows service that is meant to launch a notepad when a specific action happens. The problem i have is that even though the service launches notepad, the actual notepad it self is NOT visible. I know that it has been launced because i can see the process in the task manager. By the way the process is listed as a SYSTEM process rather than a process under my user name (i believe that is because my process is a "LocalSystem" one).
View 4 RepliesI am having some trouble understanding the different aspects of Event Handling. Of course, I know how to use "WithEvents" and "Handles". However, I have created some interdependent Custom Cotrols. I will try to describe this, and then post some code.
Assume a Custom Control 'GroupedListHeader", an instance of which is created by, and added to the controls collection of another Custom Control, "GroupedListNode".
GroupedListHeader adds an Event handler "OnHeaderClick" During initialization which hanndles several different events. As part of the handling in "OnHeaderClick", GroupedListHeader raises one of several Events which GroupedListNode in turn handles, again by using "AddHandler" during initialization. And so on. The events can propegate up through a chain of sub-components of my final control. I understand that I am supposed to use "RemoveHandler" somewhere, at some point, when I use "AddHandler". This is where my questions arise.
A. In the cases where I have used "AddHandler" to handle a custom event sourced by a sub-component, I get the following Waring:
Quote:
Warning2The 'AddressOf' expression has no effect in this context because the method argument to 'AddressOf' requires a relaxed conversion to the delegate type of the event. Assign the 'AddressOf' expression to a variable, and use the variable to add or remove the method as the handler.C:Documents and SettingsSuper God-like UserMy DocumentsVisual Studio 2008ProjectsGroupedListControlTestAttributesNode ComponentsGroupedListNodeBaseII.vb27446GroupedListControl
I am not quite sure what this is about, other than it seems to relate to trying to Remove a handler which is referencing another Custom Event.
An Example (The two in red are the source of the Warning): 'Added during the Constructor Method, after "InitializeComponent and some other Drawing-related Stuff:
AddHandler moTGHeader.Expanded, AddressOf Me.OnExpand
AddHandler moTGHeader.Collapsed, AddressOf Me.OnCollapse
AddHandler moTGHeader.Selected, AddressOf Me.OnSelect
[CODE]...
I should note futher that the component indicated above further propegates these handled Events upward to the parent of this component, where again, the same issue exists. What is it that makes the two items in red different from the others that they would cause this warning? How critical is it that I use "RemoveHandler" in this context? These events should persist until the control goes out of scope. Also, this is just an example; at several other levels in the hierarchy, I am doing the same thing. My understanding is this can result in objects retaining references to the Handlers(?) or something like that.
I'm calling the following method from a button click event to export a datatable to excel. After the export is completed, the excel application object is quit, released and assigned to nothing. But in reality it's not getting released and stays active unless the entire application is closed. So every time the button is clicked for export, a new excel application object keeps on running. The problem doesn't occur if two of the lines from the method below are not used. But I can't omit them as they are really needed. Check the * marked lines.
Code:
''' <summary>
''' Exports data from a datatable to excel.

I use the 'Process' object to run EXE from my application. It works fine when it run on Windows XP and 2003. When it run on Windows server 2008, it hangs up: the process is stayed in background but never returns. It never goes ahead for the next commands. What could be the reason? [Code]

In VB.net, we have the Handles keyword, I'm wondering if C# has anything comparable. Or do you have to manually wire all the methods to each control's event (in ASP.NET especially)?
The short program below runs just fine when it is the only item on a form. However, when I put it into the ItemInsertTemplate of a ListView control, I get the following message:
Handles clause requires a WithEvents variable defined in the containing type or one of its base types

The error message identifies Line 30 as the problem.I get the same message for Sub clnEvent_SelectionChanged How do I correct this?

I am making a webbrowser and I am now trying to make the XButton1 go back. I have that working but I can not get it to work when the WebBrowser is active. My cursor has to be over the form (Me.MouseDown) I can't use WebBrowser.MouseDown because there is no browser until the application is opened. It is a a tabbed browser. The first browser is created like this.
Try
Dim Tab As New System.Windows.Forms.TabPage
Dim Browser As New System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser

Using Visual Studio 2008 I am trying to create two subs using the same handles:
Private Sub checkwin(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click, Button2.Click, Button3.Click, Button4.Click, Button5.Click, Button6.Click, Button7.Click, Button8.Click, Button9.Click

As these both use the same handles one sub overwrites the other...... Both subs contain If statements. Do I need to create two different handles... and how do I do this so that the handles use the same buttons?
I have a simple program that was written to access data from multiple access tables. I have everything running perfectly however I did encounter an error with the exit button. I have removed the control from the window and replaced it with a exit button on the form. However I am getting an error reading: "Handles clause requires a WithEvents variable defined in the containing type or one of its base types."I am a little confused because I have this exact same line of code in two other programs and it runs fine. I have read up on this and I know that I need a line of code that reads something like " Friend WithEvents Button1 AsSystem.Windows.Forms.Button" However I am not real clear on what friend means here and where exactly the With Events goes in my code?
Code for exit button

Is there a way to simply the Handles statement? What if i want this sub to handle 20 textboxes do I have to list each textbox there? I already have a loop in my script so i can cycle through my textboxes ("TextBox" & i.text). is there anyway to use a variable or a function after handles to get all the names of the text boxes?
Private Sub textChange(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles TextBox1.KeyPress,TextBox2.KeyPress, TextBox3.KeyPress, TextBox4.KeyPress, TextBox5.KeyPress
What i want to do is grab the handle of a webbroswer control and only read the co-ordinates within those bounds. I have successfully manager to do this but the problem i am now having is moving the mouse to those co-ordinates, for some reason after getting the handle and moving the mouse:
Windows.Forms.Cursor.Position = WebBrowser1.PointToClient(New Point(x, y))
It still reads full screen co-ordinates.
sub I use on all forms in my app I would like to put in one central place (of course right). in vb.net I put this sub in a module it has a "Handles tabcontrol1.Drawitem" - I get an error saying handle requires with events variable defined in containing type or one of its base types.also when I refer to tabcontrol1 in a module it wants to know which form.. Can I use sender to define current calling form?

Dim tp As TabPage = sender.TabControl1.TabPages(e.Index)

I've been using Shell() to launch an application, and Process.GetProcessById() to get the handle to that window, but I think I'm running into problems when passing the handle around to various functions. What is the best way to declare and pass windows handles so that they will be usable? After viewing the debug, it seems the Shell() and Process.GetProcessById() work fine. After I pass the handle off to the functions I need to use them in, the program starts spitting out garbage, and not doing what I want it to do. Short version of the proces
