I am working on an addin/plugin for CAD software called Solidworks. I use it to batch process files (print, save, etc). One thing I'd like to add is a form that contains a stop button to stop the loop. The problem is that even if I use a background worker like I normally would for a standalone application, it still locks up when Solidworks is processing files. That's just normal operation for the program, the UI freezes when doing a cpu intensive operation such as loading or saving files, regardless of how I write my plugin. So my limited attempts at threading to get a form that won't freeze have been unsuccessful so far.

However I am trying to get my program into one little file. And I read how to Build Project and go to inRelease and get it from there. However it says this once I actually move it from its other files
Quote:
"*Program Name* has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
I get that as soon as I load it up. If there is any way at all to get it one simple file rather then like 3,4 files it would be so great.
How can I get the file NAME from the OpenFileDialog and make the Browse folder dialog to have the File NAME at the end of the folder destination?
1. I press "Browse for File"
2. I press "Browse for Folder"
3. After the directory for Browse for folder is shown, it will also include the file name taken from "Browse for file". I dont want it to replace the destination, but to add the File NAME to the folder destination. For example
"Browse for File" gives me the destination, C:Documents and SettingsOwnerDesktopFile.txt
"Browse for Folder" gives me C:Documents and SettingsOwnerDesktopNew Folder (3)
I want the File.txt text COPIED from "Browse for File" and PASTED on to the Destination of "Browse for Folder"
Reading a .txt file in VB.net. My file path is C:UsersMyLilMulePepeDocumentsVisual Studio 2008Projectscurtain_calls.txt.
This is my line of Dim LoanOptionsFile As String = "C:UsersMyLilMulePepeDocumentsVisual Studio 2008Projectscurtain_calls.txt"
I can read the file when I run the program, but how do I write the file path so that someone else can download my program and file and read the file on their system?
save/create a file with a character such as ; or or * in the name then windows will tell you that you cant do that. However, this is obviously possible via some programming languages (im assuming VB.NET probably throws an exception if you try this). So here is my situation - my program works with some files that are produced by a third party program and these files get named whatever the subject of the email that each file relates to was. So if one of these emails had a subject of "Hello ;" then the file would be saved as that name by this third party program. The problem is when my program comes to rename this file or move it then it just throws an exception basically saying that the file doesnt exist, however it works perfectly fine with files that dont have these illegal characters in so it is definitely that thats the problem.
View 17 RepliesI'm trying to search for a file in VB. If it exists I'd like to read it in. If it doesn't not exist I'd like to create it. I'm working in Visual Studio 2008. I was using a Streamreader before, but when I did that I was never getting any sort of error if the file wasn't there, which isn't what I want.

View 2 RepliesI want my program to be able to create a '.txt' file when it is run for the first time, with the date and time the program was accessed, and to be able to add new 'logs' of program history every time it is accessed. What i mean is that i want my program to be able to create a '.txt' file, and then fill in the dates and times when the program is opened.
View 7 RepliesIt appears that my favorite thing in the world is tackling projects that are beyond my current knowledge and abilities. I have a little project that I am working on which is a simple image viewer stocked with (upon completion) your standard Load..., Next/Previous, Zoom In/Out, Actual Size, and Full Screen capabilities. However, I am running into a few snags:
(1) I've been able to get my "Load..." button to display a file dialog box, but I cannot seem to get a working filter (with which only image file types are allowed to be selected) in working order.
(2) I have a PictureBox object (entitled PictureBox1) that displays the image selected via the file dialog box, but it loads images in their full size (1:1/100% zoomed) state without scrollbars, etc. to allow me to navigate the loaded image. I would like to have it load the image, initially, to fit within the dimensions of PictureBox1 and from there be able to zoom in/out via my "Zoom In/Out" and "Actual Size" buttons and be able to scroll if the zoom level is beyond the dimensions of PictureBox1.
(3) It dawned on me that I haven't the faintest idea how to get my "Next/Previous" buttons to allow the user (me) to navigate, in succession, the images contained in the folder in which the currently loaded image is stored. [code]

I'm having a slight problem getting my program to load a save file when double clicking the save file.I'm using the Command$() to get the command line argument. I can open a save file by dragging it onto the exe. But not by double clicking the save file (after it's associated with the exe).I though dragging and dropping a file on a program and double clicking the file would open it in the same way, but I guess not.So in short how does file association work and how do I get the file path set to a var when the program loads.

I want to find the full path of the program that will open a given file type. e.g. '.txt' is opened by c:windowssystem32 otepad.exe
I've done a bit of searching but i keep just finding how to create an association, not read one. I've also tried looking in the registery, but it looks like all that's there is a link to the program ID or something.
how can i make the program read the name of a file in the same direction i want to make a program that when the user write the name of the file the program make search in the same directory and the open it

View 2 RepliesI have created a program that saves and opens a custom filetype that I have created. In windows I have associated this program with that particular extension. What kind of handler do I need to tell the program what to do when it is started by double-clicking a file that it is associated with? As of right now, the program starts, but of course it doesn't know what to do with the file that started it, so it does nothing. I searched with no luck, sort of hard to choose keywords.
View 2 RepliesI am running Windows 7 pro and using Visual Basic 2010 express.I have written a small program to switch on a USB relay which is controled by a serial port.I have debuged the program and it appears to work correctly. I have published the program and if I start it from thr run menu / desktop shortcut / or through explorer it works as expected.
However I have tried to run it by the Task Scheduler and then it fails to run as expected. I have a small section of code that checks to see if the serial port is present if not I have used messagebox.show to ask for the relay to be pluged in. In every case other than when running through the Task Scheduler the messagebox works with the Task schedulerit doesn't show the messagebox and the program hangs I have included the code I have used.
