VS 2008 Getting .exe File Working?

Jun 21, 2010

However I am trying to get my program into one little file. And I read how to Build Project and go to inRelease and get it from there. However it says this once I actually move it from its other files

Quote:

"*Program Name* has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

I get that as soon as I load it up. If there is any way at all to get it one simple file rather then like 3,4 files it would be so great.

VS 2008 : Move File Not Working?

Sep 9, 2009

How can I get the file NAME from the OpenFileDialog and make the Browse folder dialog to have the File NAME at the end of the folder destination?

1. I press "Browse for File"

2. I press "Browse for Folder"

3. After the directory for Browse for folder is shown, it will also include the file name taken from "Browse for file". I dont want it to replace the destination, but to add the File NAME to the folder destination. For example

"Browse for File" gives me the destination, C:Documents and SettingsOwnerDesktopFile.txt
"Browse for Folder" gives me C:Documents and SettingsOwnerDesktopNew Folder (3)

I want the File.txt text COPIED from "Browse for File" and PASTED on to the Destination of "Browse for Folder"

VS 2008 : Working With Files With Illegal Characters In File Name?

Jul 3, 2009

save/create a file with a character such as ; or or * in the name then windows will tell you that you cant do that. However, this is obviously possible via some programming languages (im assuming VB.NET probably throws an exception if you try this). So here is my situation - my program works with some files that are produced by a third party program and these files get named whatever the subject of the email that each file relates to was. So if one of these emails had a subject of "Hello ;" then the file would be saved as that name by this third party program. The problem is when my program comes to rename this file or move it then it just throws an exception basically saying that the file doesnt exist, however it works perfectly fine with files that dont have these illegal characters in so it is definitely that thats the problem.

VS 2008 Cannot Seem To Get A Working Filter In Working Order

Jun 18, 2009

It appears that my favorite thing in the world is tackling projects that are beyond my current knowledge and abilities. I have a little project that I am working on which is a simple image viewer stocked with (upon completion) your standard Load..., Next/Previous, Zoom In/Out, Actual Size, and Full Screen capabilities. However, I am running into a few snags:

(1) I've been able to get my "Load..." button to display a file dialog box, but I cannot seem to get a working filter (with which only image file types are allowed to be selected) in working order.

(2) I have a PictureBox object (entitled PictureBox1) that displays the image selected via the file dialog box, but it loads images in their full size (1:1/100% zoomed) state without scrollbars, etc. to allow me to navigate the loaded image. I would like to have it load the image, initially, to fit within the dimensions of PictureBox1 and from there be able to zoom in/out via my "Zoom In/Out" and "Actual Size" buttons and be able to scroll if the zoom level is beyond the dimensions of PictureBox1.

(3) It dawned on me that I haven't the faintest idea how to get my "Next/Previous" buttons to allow the user (me) to navigate, in succession, the images contained in the folder in which the currently loaded image is stored. [code]

If it is deemed that this thread is inappropriately requesting help, I ask that it be locked/deleted quickly as I recognize that this is a large community with many discussions going without need of unwelcome posts.

VS 2008 Working In VB 2008 Designer View - Add Another Item In The Menu

Aug 5, 2009

I have been working on an app that was basically a vb6 app but had to be changed and I did it all using VB 2008. works well, great. One of the problems that I had was to work on different groupboxes or frames. Since they are layered on top of each other, working on one frame would mess up the others. Eventually it all went okay. but now if i want to add another item in the menu and hence add another groupbox (or frame) in the same app - it would definitely be a nightmare.

2 Methods Of Opening A File Not Working?

Oct 23, 2010

I am trying to call a batch file from my program. It opens the file but the file doesn't work. This requires a little knowledge of java.

method one:

Code:
Dim odlg As New OpenFileDialog
odlg.InitialDirectory = path
odlg.Filter = ("Batch Files (*bat)|")

[code]....

Both of these make the batch file appear but somehow it isn't opened correctly or something. The two batch files are in the resources of my project. They get copied to a folder and that directory is named "path" which appears in the code above. Then I try to call the file from that folder with the directory being called "pathComp" which also appears in the code above. This batch file is meant to compile the java files created in a folder by the program by using the command "javac". Now when I run the program and get to this point and the batch window opens the cmd window says this:

Quote:

javac: invalid flag: *java
Usage: javac <options> <source files> use -help for a list of possible options

[code]....

It doesn't compile the files, however when I run the batch file independently of the program it works fine. I really need some help on this one. If you need it here is the code for the batch file that is called:

Code:
@echo off
title Java Compiler
:start

Batch File Not Working When Called From Shell

Apr 30, 2010

We are attempting to run a batch file that will result in a submission to a help desk ticket system. When we run the batch file from command line on our W2003 platform, it works successfully. When we run the same file, called from our vb program, using shell or process info, it does not. With shell, we can see the batch file being called, but it is not resulting in update to the help desk ticket system. The vendor of the system believes it is a security issue. We are signed on as Administrator while running this. We set security permissions of cmd.exe to include Batch, per KB867466. What else should we be doing or looking at?

Error Log File Location Not Working On Vista With UAC?

Oct 13, 2009

I have a program that writes unhandled exception detail to a log file stored in the same directory as the program itself. I am wondering how I can have keep the file in the same location, and not have to worry about a file write access. With Vistas User Access Control enabled, the file is not accessible unless the program is run as an administrator, which I don't need it to be for anything else. The file does not exist all of the time, it only exists after an error occurs. Users are encouraged to email the file to me and then delete the file. Thus the file should only exist if their is a error that the user has not emailed. I really want to keep it in the same directory as the program itself, or within a subdirectory of the programs directory, since the portable version is exactly the same program executable and I would like to keep it that way. I am not sure how to go about setting the file security, set it when I create the file if the file doesn't exist, prompting for Administrator privileges to create it with the security. I was also thinking that I could just set the entire folder containing the program executable when it is installed, and then it would be able to create the file without having to have administrator privileges.

(also tried just setting a textbox's text property to clipboard.gettext for testing purposes but it still does nothing)

File Verification Glitch, And It Was Working Last Night

Mar 20, 2012

I am just down right confused right now... I made a slight modification to my games saving system, and it worked before this modification... I only changed "one" thing in the saving and loading of the save file system.

now it went from working when trying to verify the save data, to throwing this error when I enter the username of "test" and the password of "test...

there is not a save file for that combination of data, and prior to the save/load system edits, it would realize that, and throw a message box error that I made for that senario... but now, it does this when trying to load the human class. that save file that it is trying to load and verify that does not exist is supposed to be "test the human"

"Could not find a part of the path 'F:\Ashes of Redemption\Ashes Of Redemption(01-02-2012)\Ashes Of Redemption\bin\Debug100 the 250\100 the 250.txt'."

it is supposed to throw my message box stating that there is no file in that combination, and the edits that I made only write a description of what each line of code is in the game... I had also made a variable called "nulldata" that takes those lines of text, and keeps them out of the games loaded data, so for each string of text that I added, it is basically rendered useless upon the save file being loaded...if you enter valid save information, then it loads just fine... so I am just plain confused right now.

the NEW save function'[code...]

now I am going to root around in my code now to see if I cant figure out by chance what is going on here.
