I'm trying to add multiple items to a list box from a database but I'm having a few problems getting it to work. Below is the code i have so far but for some reason it will only add the last field in the database to the listbox and not the remaining 12.

On my form I have 3 textboxes. They get their data from a database query. The trick is the database may return 1 result or up to 3. If the query returns only 1 result, I want the first textbox populated, 2 results, 1st and 2nd textbox populated, etc... I also want to be able to track CurrentItemChanged Event for updating purposes. My initial thought was to use a list object as the binding source but how would I cycle through the list if it returns more than one so that I can assign the values to the 2nd and 3rd textboxes or if data is entered in to a blank textbox I want the currentitemchanged
View 6 RepliesUsing Visual Basic in Visual Studio 2008, I have created a Windows form with multiple tabs and questions. Each question has an associated drop-down listbox that the user will eventually click on to enter his or her response. My client has now informed me that she wants to change the standard responses in each response box. There are well over 100 drop-down listboxes, all with the same items, and they all must be changed.
I originally inputted the items using design view. Would someone please tell me if it's possible to edit all of these boxes in the design view simultaneously? When I control + click on more than one box, the Edit Items option that is normally available disappears. Is there a way to do it in code in a manner that would save back into design view?
I've never really used the Check List Box in the past, however, for the recent program I am developing, I am using this control rather than individual check boxes scattered across the form.Anyway, I want to be able to program through code which items get checked in this checked list box. Specifically, I have a variable that contains the text of each check box that I want checked.With a normal check box, I can simply say:

I have some items in my listbox which I will store everyone of them into my database, what I am doing now is looping the box and call my database saving logic to save every single item. I thought this is pretty inefficient, is there anyway that I can use to batch save my items so that I don't open and close the connection as many times as my items.

I have struggled to find a way to make this work. I have a listbox that has 5 items. These items are lets say Company Name, Address, User Name, Phone, Fax. View 11 RepliesI have a listbox that gets populated with files paths based on search terms provided by the user. I want the user to be able to select multiple items on the listbox, and then be able to export the files listed to another folder. See the attached image for what I'm talking about.
The problem I'm having is that I don't know how to take the items selected and turn them into a string array. Everything else I can figure out, but this one has me stumped.

View 4 RepliesI have a listview (details) with owner draw set to true (so i could make rows alternate in color, looks cooler) which basically contains items and subitems whose texts reflect status info that updates constantly
the problem is, sometimes (if the task runs quickly) the status changes really quickly, and as a result, listview items "flicker" for a millisecond no error, no real problem, its just really annoying and makes the program look less professional.
Is there a way to make the listview not flicker? Or maybe there is a way to make it so that the listview doesn't process too many drawsubitem calls during the same time interval? or maybe there is some customized list view out there that does the trick better?
NOTE: i tried with owner draw set to false. it flickers less, but still flickers. same problem :S
Also NOTE: i am not making cross-thread calls. i have 50 items in the listview and 4 colums, mainly the last 2 subitems change.

I have used list views for a project. I have used sum items on the items. The sub items are prices of products. I will need to use these sub items to come up with a total.Also, i have used to listviews, for a smoother look and feel. You click the product which then is removed from the list view and added to the second one. Would this also "move" the sub item across to the other list view?

View 22 RepliesIn my project when someone logs in I refresh the overhead and side menus. My overhead menu is an extended menustrip component that I have made. I am able to clear the menu, reload it dynamically but I am not able to add/insert the open windows which are managed by the mdiwindowlistitem property. These are the items named "1 - form name " "2 - form name" etc.
I have been able to copy the whole dropdown list, and with some very hacky loop work I can take out everything but the items related to the forms. But when I add them back in, they are not on my list. The related forms are still open and if you click the maximize button to shrink a open child window, and then re-maximize that same window...the items magically show up in the list.
This ManageMenus sub is called during a login change. If you breakpoint on "openwindowslist" after it is returned with data, it has the proper entries and nothing extra. It just seems that the for/each add loop does not actually add the items. Or, if it does add them, I can't see them.
Tried both insert and add functions, same results both ways.

I need to load a large txt file that is in a fixed width format. There are over 45K lines, so speed is important.I need to load one of the fields into a dropdown box and have another field (label) display the text of another field in the related line.I could import the file to an access db if needed, but would rather not as i also want the txt file to update from a link on a regular bases. I'm trying to make a program in which I can import an excel file, read the whole thing and save it in another format. So far so good: can import the file, read it, skip first line or not etc.But.. Now I've been thinking about a sort option.What if the column order of the excel file is in another order than the export file must be in. In stead of opening the excel file and rearrange the columns manually, I would like to sort it in the program. Just for the sake of trying to make it work and gain experience
So, i read the first line which contains the column names and put them in several comboboxes where I can make a selection. No problem here.Now, the selection of combobox1 has to be removed from the other comboboxes and so on, to avoid double selections on one column. That's where my listOld comes in. Everytime a selection is made in a combobox, a sub is called to create the listOld and create the listNew (which contains items you can still choose from).As I make more selections the listOld gains more items and the ListNew grows shorter.But here comes the part where I'm puzzled.In the part "refill the comboboxes" (bottom part) when I disable "cmb2.Items.Clear()" the listOld (previous selected items) contains all selected items correctly.

so I have a generic list in a console application. Dim Channels as New List(Of Chatroom) Chatroom is a structure. But I have multiple classes, threads, and timers looping through this list, sometimes at the same time, but it always seems to raise errors because the number of items in the list gets changed while one of the other classes/threads/timers are looping through also. Is there any way to allow only one to manipulate it at a time?

how to determine whether the property in question is a generic List(Of T)? If it is I need to loop the list itself.
I've experimented with GetType and TypeOf but have not managed to get anything working.
To clarify, I want to keep this generic. I do not want to specify the type of T, I need to loop the list items and call the ToString method on each item. T could be one of a number of different types (application specific reference types). Is it possible to do this without specifying types?
