VS 2008 - Control A Loop Event With A Scrollbar?

Jun 4, 2010

I am trying to use a scrollbar to move forward and back through records in a datatable and to populat an entry in a field to indicate that individual records are selected. In short i want to represent a the sum of a specific field of those records selected. Of course being a scrollbar it has to work in reverse and unselect records when the user moves it backward.

The purpsoe of the scrollbars is that there will be five of them and they will represent years. The records on the other hand represent projects which have an output (say money saving). The idea being projects selected in year one then cant be selected in year two. I am planning to do this by assigning a value that indicates they are already allocated to the previous or other years scroll bar. I can set up a loop to go through the whole data set and do this for a year (and have), but i want to use scrollbars and make it interactive.

VS 2008 : Handle Some Event Related To When The TreeView Scrollbar Appears Or Disappears?

Sep 12, 2009

I have a custom contro which inherits directly from Treeview. Is there any way to handle some event related to when the TreeView Scrollbar appears (it does this when the height of the stack of visible nodes exceeds the height of the control) or "disappears"?

I realize if could set up a function which checks the ItemHeight * Nodes.Count, and compares this to the control height. However, this seems clumsy. I have been exploring the object browser (and anylized TreeView with Reflector) and have not found what I am looking for. If there is a way to access the ScrollBar Property at ALL within TreeView, I have not found it.

I would like that when one text box is scrolled, the other is scrolled as well. I was wondering if there was a Scroll event that could trigger the change the position of the scroll bar of the two text boxes.

VS 2008 - Infinite Loop - Event Triggered Keeps Firing Off The Code

May 9, 2010

I'm not even sure what I need to know. None the less lets say I got a timer with an if event to check if said event is triggered then it fires off some code. The problem is if said event is triggered it keeps firing off the code and I only need to do it one time. Whilst letting the timer keep checking if event happened. I hope I worded that right and here is a rough translation in code. [Code] Is there a way to keep checking if an event happened and only fire off the code one time?

I have a game with a large panel in VBE2008 with a Vertical Scroll Bar Control.

The user uses his mouse to move it up and down, etc.

But how can the game program move this control?

For example, the control bar is slid down to the panel and I want my program to slide back to the top starting position when the user clicks on the Reset Button.

Scrollbar Won't Enable On Custom Control?

May 30, 2010

I moved this from the debugger thread as I got no responses. This may be a better area.I have a problem enabling a Scrollbar on a custom control I have created. The custom control has one component, the scrollbar and an area that I draw upon from an internal datasource.Think something like a textbox. In certain instances,I want the scrollbar to be enabled. The Custom Control's job is to do this when the situtation is appropriate.I have a very simple piece of code here:

If <logic conditions> Then
DataScroll_vscrollbar.Enabled = False
Else[code].....

This code is in my OnPaint routine (along with a bunch of other drawing related stuff).Essentially I've determined that there is more stuff to display than the area of the control and need to turn on the scrollbar to give the user of the control the ability to see later stuff. With the exception of this funny behavior, the control is doing exactly what I want.I step through this and have a watch set.I can step through the set to True, but the Enabled value doesn't change.Even the EnabledChanged event fires (Doesn't on the set to False because it's already False), but the Enabled value is still False.I don't know why.Now here is the really interesting part and may give somebody an idea about what's happening: I can change the Enabled value via the debugger (via the Watch) to True. The EventChanged will fire, and from that point on I can set the Enabled value to either True or False and back again with no problems.

I even did some really crazy testing to see if perhaps the debugger just wasn't showing something.

did something like:

Dim idiot as boolean = false
if <logic> then
idiot = true[code]....

I have set the values to Minimum and Maximum, but the problem remains.

Textbox With Vertical Scrollbar - Get The Scrollbar Position Without Having To Reposition The Carat?

Oct 21, 2010

So with the stock Textbox, I set the Scrollbars property to Vertical. This is great if the text in my box never changes; I can scroll up and down while the box sits still. If I'm running a background operation that logs output to the box though, the scrollbar resets itself to the top every time I append text to the box.

I know I can set the Textbox.Selection property (or use the Select method) to reposition the carat in the textbox, make note of that position in a variable, then append text, reset the carat, and use the ScrollToCarat method to reposition the scrollbar where it belongs. That's a really (ridiculously) long way around. Anybody know if there's another/better way of holding the scrollbar position, short of actually building a custom control (or using a Textbox and a separate Scrollbar)? It never hurts to try. In a worst case scenario, you'll learn from it.

Scrollbar On Custom Control (inherited From Windows.form)?

May 16, 2011

I'm trying to create my own control to build a custom planning on it.After trying it with loose controls I got an error but after advice on my previous post, I redraw everything.I have now the header of the control finished, the header shows the days of the month for as many months that fit in the window. Now I want to put the list of data below it, but it will be more than the windows height, so I need to have a scroll bar that will scroll the data but not the header.I would not like to design my own scrollbar and rather use the scrollbar control for it, but when I put it in, I cannot use the NEW keyword.example:

Dim sb
As
ScrollBar

with this I get the error message: 'New' cannot be used on a class that is declared 'MustInherit'.How can I get a scrollbar on my form to scroll the list only (so not the header)?

Interface And Graphics :: Listbox Event - Scrollbar That Comes With ListBox Is Too Small For Touch Screens

Jan 6, 2011

The scrollbar that comes with the ListBox is too small for touch screens, so I use my own scrollbar instead. But when you do this on various forms you end up repeating a lot of code. So my solution was to create a custom scollbar that has a property I can set to the control I want it to be a scrollbar for. In vb6, I can use the withevents keyword to get access to the control's events so that all the scrollbar related code can be in the custom scrollbar object I created, except...I had to create a refresh method for the consuming code to use to let the scrollbar know when the number of items changes. The scrollbar doesn't need to be told how many items there are because it has access to the control, but for a listbox there is no event to tie into when an item is added/removed so not 100% of the scrollbar related code could be encapsulated.

VS 2008 - Dynamically Direct Control Event To Use Predefined Method

Nov 15, 2009

Is it possible to dynamically direct a particular control's event to use a predefined method. For example: I have a form which I dynamically add controls to, let's say, TextBox1, TextBox2 and extBox3 and a module which as 3 routines, Method1, Method2, Method3. When I dynamically add my controls, eg TextBox4, I want to choose which of the 3 methods I want mapped to which event.

I was thinking of something like this...
Dim objTextBox1 as new TextBox
dim NameOfRoutine$="Module.Method2"
Form.Controls.Add(objTextBox1)
Call AssignMethodToEvent(objTextBox1.GotFocus, NameOfRoutine$)

VS 2008 Cross-thread Error, Change Control Property By (other) Class Event PropertyChanged?

Apr 1, 2010

I need some help to understand my options to get this working. I try to update a textbox control by a property-changed event from a class variable. I've digged around for a day and have a vague understanding that this can be solved in three ways:

1. Using some "if InvokeRequired", "Invoke" code in the handler method
2. By programming a special delegate class for this variable
3. By using a databinding directly linking the control (textbox) to the class event

Now.. Are these options correct? And would it be possible to get some help to show these three solutions in actual code (relevant to mine)? I can't seem to manage to sort all the information to a working code. Also, what are the pros and cons of the different solutions?

As my code stands now, it's obviously none of the above, as it gives a cross-thread error, as indicated.
