How do I work out if 2 paths penetrate each other. I say penetrate as I do not just want to work out if they intersect or not ... as intersecting will return false if one path is completely within the other.

I am making an appilcation which displays images from a target folder. It was orginally using an sql .sdf file as its data source but the data source has been changes to a .mdb access database.The code does not seen to update the tabe, and being pretty new to this would like some help on how to do this as currently the code is stating the following error:Object reference not set to an instance of an object.This is the code which allows the customer to choose a target folder to display the file images, but the files will not update to the database: [code]

I am having problems with copying from one listbox to another and keeping the paths of the files in the listbox's. At the moment i have two listbox's, listbox1 shows the list of files without the directory paths showing. Listbox2 is used to add items from listbox1 which work ok but what i need is to be able to preserve the directory paths to each file. how to do this and have searched high and low for a solution without any luck.
I have worked out one way of doing it but i think there is a better way of doing it as the reverse does not seem to work. So basicly i want listbox1 to list the files without the paths and pass it on to listbox2 so that the files can be copied to temp directory as they are being add to listbox2.

While we are at it, is there any event that triggers that indicates that a new application has been started? Basically I am trying to log what applications are running on the application while my VB application is running.
I have a multi-processing application that kicks off up to 4 threads at a time to process data into a SQL-Server database. It seems to work okay, except at times the processors are pegged at 100% and all threads slow down a bit.
So, what I want to do is conditionally fire a thread based upon the processor load... if they're already running at 100%, it makes no sense to kick off another thread.
Is there a way to determine what the processor load is? Task manager shows processor load, so there probably is... but how do I do it?

I have Visual Studio 2008/VB application that opens Excel workbooks, reads all the sheets, and writes some data to a SQL database. I need an easy way to determine if a sheet has any data on it. By default most books has three sheets (Sheet1, Sheet2, Sheet3) and usually, but not always, my books have data only on sheet1. But i need to look at alal sheets to check for the existence of data. I know I can do a nested for loop from 1 to columns.count and rows.count, but that would take a good bit of time since those numbers usually are something like 256 and 65K.
Is ther some easy way to determine if there is any data on the sheet? If there is, is there an easy way to find the "first" cell with data in it?

I have written a program and deployed using clickonce to all desktop users. Additionally, the program is also installed (non clickonce) on a terminal server. (For security reasons, these users cannot install on their desktops). I need to add some code to the current program but only need this code to happen if it's being run as a Non ClickOnce Application. Does anyone know how to determine if the running version is a clickonce or not? Is there something in System.Deployment.Application that identifies?

But this method has a bad issue: The text property takes a while to "load up" plus getting its hash code adds to it. This code runs every time the Lines are needed (it is a property). So this

- Can't use the TextChanged event, since it is sent after the SelectionChanged event (for some reason)
I am back with new problem using TabControl in VBNET2008 Window Application I am trying to figure out how to determine logically either TabPage1 or TabPage2 header button is clicked on.

I have a program that copies files to several servers in succession. If one of those servers is unavailable for any reason, my program hangs for about a minute before it continues on to the next server. Is there a quicker way to determine if the path is available or not?

I understand the concept that I can't reference something that it is not but I don't know how to fix it. The original code was for a DataGridView.
The ultimate goal (not finished) is to find out when the user has used the mouse or possibly the scroll bar itself and if it hits the bottom of the page of the viewer, then trigger a new page so it looks like they can just keep using the mouse to scroll.
