Fitting A Form To Cover The Entire Screen

Sep 11, 2011

I have a program and wish to generalise its appearance at startup on different machines. This worked OK until I moved it onto a Windows 7 unit with a 22" screen. The front page covers less than 2/3 of the screen. I know I've asked the system for 'working area' but could not find a reference to the entire screen which other applications seem able to use. How can I catch up with them? The code is from VB in VS2005. Is this my limitation?

Algo / Code To Cover A Rectangular Area Using Circles?

Jun 13, 2012

This is a problem like the puzzle - "find minimum number of coins to completely cover a piece of paper".

The difference is:

in my case RADIUS of the coins is variable (but all coins should have same radius).

Real scenario:

1. I need to draw circular shapes on a rectangular image.

2. Number of circles (N) is CONSTANT/ User input

3. Size of image (S) is CONSTANT/ User input

4. The program should find the MINIMUM RADIUS (R) that is needed to draw N number of circles on an image of size S, so that, the image is completely hidden behind the circles.

This is NOT a puzzle/assignment that I'm trying to solve. This is part of a larger project that I'm working on.

I don't need any drawing code. I just need the code/algo to find the radius.

Carpet Calculator - Rolls Required To Cover Room?

Sep 1, 2011

I'm trying to make a carpet calculator that will do the following:
1) How many metres of carpet are needed to cover a room.
2) How many rolls of carpet that will be.
3) How much full-width carpet will be left on the last roll.

The carpet is supplied in rolls that are 5 meters wide and 30 metres long. Any excess width is discarded. This means that rooms that are wider than 5 meters need several strips of carpet. The smallest space that will be carpeted is 1m x1m, the biggest is 20m x 20m. I only need whole meter lengths, so example if only 1.6meters of carpet were used to cover a room it would be rounded to 2 meters.

Here's the code that's giving me incorrect calculations. The number of rolls required to carpet the room seems to be the biggest miscalculation.
Private Sub btnCalculate_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnCalculate.Click
Dim width, length As Single 'Defines variables.
If IsValidInput(txtWidth.Text) Then
width = txtWidth.Text
[Code] .....

Winforms - Hide Button Text Or Make Image On Button Cover Text?

Aug 10, 2009

I dynamically create buttons on a form and use the button text as ids so that I can pass that to an SQL query to pull saved data about that button when necessary, but I also use an image over buttons that have information saved about them. What I need to know is how do I keep the text on the button from appearing when there is an image assigned to that button? By default vb.net shows both the text and the image and no TextImageRelation values allow for the image to take precedence. I tried changing the text color to transparent, but the outline of the text is still visible through the image. Is there anyway to keep the text value as it is but just show the image on the button?

VS 2008 Obtain CRC32 Checksum Of Files Within A Folder Then Rename Files And Folder

Mar 4, 2010

in the current project im making i've decided to add in some tools, 1 of which is a renamer based of a renamer app that already exists (called scdtoolz), i want to build my own version of it so i can learn some new things, and build a nice GUI version of it.[code]So what i have managed to determine is that the current app scans the folders contents for the CRC32 Checksum, and renames based of that, since the 456.bin's CRC32 Checksum was 2274F80B, and in the text file 2274F80B is found here 'WWF - Rage in the Cage (T-81015)(U)#2274F80B#'So now i have determined game identification is based of the CRC32 checksums, how would i go about coding a similar ap in vb.net?first i need to make the app scan a folder, but how to return crcchecksum? and then rename if check = XXXX? If MD4 sums are easier/simpler i can use those instead, im lookin at a few hash app sources now, so i think i can see how to get the md5 but not the crc32 yet, or how to rename the 2 files and folder based of the text file.

Zip Files In .net 2008?

Sep 6, 2010

saving required files in vb 2008, zipping it, and sending it in to my teacher via emails. When I finish the program, I hit save as and put it in a new folder. I then zip it up using winzip, send it to my teacher through our school website. When she gets it however, she cannot open it and says I don't have all the required files. I can still open it on my computer, though, and don't know what I'm doing wrong. Any advice would be helpful on what else I'm supposed to do. If it helps the program that I am doing I have to get it from a zip file she sends us, re-modify it a little, re-save it, and send it back.

Deployment Files In Vb 2008?

Jul 31, 2010

I recently upgraded from vb.net 2003 to vb 2008. I see that when I "Build" the application all of the program files are generated, must like with vb.net 2003. When I use the ClickOnce publish approach, a set of files are generated including the setup.exe. When I double click on the setup file, the program installs deep down in My Documents. If I navigate to that location there is a complete set of my application files along with some Manifest files and a Manifest folder.

I wish to package my program for installation using INNO Setup Compiler, because it is very flexible and allows me to add information and choices through the installation process. My question is - if I package the "Publish" set of files, should I be including the files that are generated and located in the "Manifest" folder? and if so, do these files need to be located in their own folder as was installed on my computer? Or can I simply add them to all of the program files?

VS 2008 : TCP Sending Files?

Apr 14, 2009

I've got a client/server communicating nicely using TCP to send text strings and to parse and act upon the messages at either end, but now I want to be able to send small files. I thought it would be as simple as reading the contents of the file into a buffer and sending that buffer as if it was a message but obviously not. When I retrieve the message at the client end I get "System.Byte[]" so its given me the variable type and not the actual contents of the array I thought I'd passed in!

My Sending code is this :

Public Sub SendFile(ByVal Filename As String)
Dim sw As IO.StreamWriter
Dim fs As IO.FileStream

[code]....

(NB I did search for this within the forum and found some examples but they just didn't fit very well with the framework of what I'm doing, such as creating a 2nd tcp channel to handle file transfers?

I am doing this for a webcam application and it seems another method would be quicker than using the credentials each time I need to upload and then rename the file.
