View 4 RepliesI'm working on an app and in the textbox field I would like to be able to convert anytime a user would type .36 it would actually change and display 0.36, mainly I want it on the key press of the period just add a zero before it, and I need this to happen on the keydown event.. anyone have any ideas for me on how to do this? This is all I know so far...[code] One last smidget of problem too, I only want this to happen when the user types . in the beginning not if he types 4.22 with the period being after a digit.
View 10 RepliesMy chemistry calculations program, written in Visual Studio 2008, VB.Net (Win XP), gives completely wrong results when a Comma is used as Decimal Symbol.The calculations are only correct with a Dot (.) as Decimal Symbol.How can I make the calculation results independent of the Decimal Symbol? (Dot or Comma)?(For example Excel calculates correctly with a Dot or Comma as Decimal Symbol)I have found an old thread adressing the same problem, but no simple and easy solution was given.
View 3 RepliesI am trying to prevent the user from typing dupilicate decimals or periods into a data entry form. The code below has all been tried and yes, there was a do something in there. This is just a sample of what I tried. When I could not trap "." I moved through various renditions of the e.keyvalue still no luck. I know it is simple and stupid but it darn sure escapes me...
If e.KeyValue = 110 Then 'NUMPAD DECIMAL

View 4 RepliesHow would I go about rounding up decimal numbers to the nearest 2 decimal places? For example $7.0000032 would be $7.01 In theory, VB would make it $7.00 but if it is > $7.00, I want it to reflect that to the nearest penny... so $3.0000001 would be $3.01

In VB.Net, is there a way of auto-detecting the culture of a string representation of a number? I'll explain the situation:Our asp.net web site receives xml data feeds for boat data. Most of the time, the number format for the prices use either a simple non-formatted integer e.g. "999000". That's easy for us to process.Occaisionally, there are commas for thousands separators and periods for the decimal point. Also, that's fine as our data import understands this. Example "999,000.00".We're starting to get some data from France where some of the prices have been entered with the periods and thousands separators the other way around as that's the way it's done in many European countries. E.g. "999.000,00". This is where our system would interpret that as nine hundred and ninety nine pounds instead of the nine hundred and ninety nine thousand pounds that was intended.

I'm trying to do this division and the result to be displayed on a eight decimal number.
Dim r1 As Integer
Dim r2 As Double
r1 = Val(TextBox16.Text)
r2 = r1 / 60
TextBox18.Text = FormatNumber(r2, 8)
The value or R1 on this case is 273.4 but it varies according with the result obtained so I can not allocate a constant number to r1. The problem is the result that I am getting is 4,55000000 instead of 4.5566666
I'm beating my head against the desk on an advanced level solution in the VB 2010 book, and can't figure out what I am doing wrong. This is the exercise: JM Sales employs 8 salespeople. The sales manager wants an application that allows him to enter a bonus rate. The application should use the rate, along with the 8 salespeople, in an array, to calculate each salesperson's bonus amount. The application should display each salesperson's number (1 through 8) and bonus amount. as well as the total bonus paid, in the interface.
1. The txtRate control should accept only numbers, the period, and the Backscape key.
2. A one-dimensional array should be used that has elements initialized to the following sales amounts: 2400, 1500, 1600, 2790, 1000, 6300, 1300 and 2700.
I have the interface created and its error free (for now) but its not doing what its supposed to do. It's supposed to show something like this. I can provide screenshots if necessary. [code] but what I get is a list of 0.00's in all of the above fields. What am I doing wrong? Heres the code finally, sorry if I was overly descriptive. This is my first time doing one of the advanced exercises, maybe I should go back to intermediate.
I have an id called "AM01". I separated them by truncating the numbers out and increase it by 1 each time I want to add a new record. Therefore before I add the record, I would have to combine them back. I managed to truncate them and combine them back. However, the results turn out to be "AM2" instead of "AM02". So, is there a way where I could make the numbers as "02" instead of just "2"?

View 7 RepliesI'm having a bit of an issue getting the number formatting of VB .NET 3.5 to work just right for me. I have to convert numbers to scientific notation, with 2 digits for the exponent and 6 digits after the decimal. I've been able to get this for numbers that have enough digits, but for other numbers, it truncates the number to use as few digits as possible. For example, I would like 0 to be converted to 0.000000e00, or 123.4 to be 1.234000e02.
View 1 RepliesI'm a noob, so please bear with me. I'm working with VB in Visual Studio 2008. I have an application that displays dollar amounts. With the application installed on my desktop all of the dollar values display with 2 decimal places. However, after moving the application to the server and executing from there, trailing zeroes after the decimal point are lost.
For example - 7.00 displays as 7 - 10.60 displays as 10.6 I'm guessing there's an options file somewhere that determines how these numbers are displaying but I have no idea what that file might be.
Can someone tell me how to get both digits following the decimal point to display all of the time?
