VS 2008 Program That Utilizes A Three-tier Structure With Presentation
Jun 21, 2010
I am writing a program that utilizes a three-tier structure with presentation, business and persistence classes. I am needing to use a ComboBox to select a specific account type which will call a class. How do I get the program to call a class after the user has selected an account type from the ComboBox?
It's a simple 3-Tier Structure Windows Form Application using Visual Basics 2008 express edition. I need to populate a ComboBox (User Interface Layer) using an Array with only 3 names (Data Access Layer and Business Logic Layer). I think I'm close to it but I'm unable to pass the data from the DAL all the way to the UI properly. When I run the application, My ComboBox gives me choices but the three choices are
I'm trying to implement for the first time a library. With the event sub "client_TickPrice" I want to update a textbox. However nothing happens to my form when the "UpdateLast" sub is called from there.? The code was originally inside a Module (not a class like now), and set up as a console application. Probably there is a problem with the way I wrap my code, i.e. use of classes etc. This program is supposed to receive realtime stock/futures price data. Is it still a good way to start this code with the form, or should I make some type of console application?
Public Class Form1 Dim prog As New Program Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load prog.Main() [Code] .....
I've been working to refactor my code and ended up with a quite clean main BLL class that has only a few manager classes that pass information between eachother. They handle separate tasks/areas like socket connection, data, etc. It's only one instance of each of these manager objects, so I believe maybe the base layout is a structural singleton (?) ..but not sure. This seems to give quite good oversight and a clean separation of PL/BLL as the main form only access the BLL through one instance of a single class. But now I'm trying to figure out how to lay out the presentation layer. So with this I would like to understand a few points: Do you have all controls as members of the form class, or can you make sub classes where some controls only exist on lower levels? Like for example if you have a tab where all controls only interact with each other, and not the rest of the form, would it then be possible to make this a separate class that holds both controls and additional logic ? The first problem I get when trying this is with the events, as if I simply move an event handler method to another class than the form class, I get the message: Handles clause requires a WithEvents variable defined in the containing type or one of its base types. What does this mean? and is there an easy way around this? I would like to understand how a slightly more complex PL is designed, so I know what direction to move in for studying/developing this.
I'm creating an N-Tier (or at least I think its N-Tier!) solution where I have the following:
WPF client side application (presentation layer) WCF service hosted in a windows service (data access layer) SQL database (data layer)
Now bearing in mind this is the first time I've tried to design anything like this, I might be going about it completely the wrong way...I've created 3 examples classes that would be my 'business objects' (im not quite sure where that fits in within the layers I listed above, because these business objects would be defined in a DLL that would be used by both the presentation layer and the data access layer). You can see them here:So then in my WCF service (data access layer) I would have methods like this that would be exposed to the WPF client:These are just examples but you get the idea. Is this the right way to do something like this?I saw one design that someone had posted somewhere that basically looked to me like it merged the Business Objects and the DAL together because in their class that represented an order, they had properties like you would expect for Order Number etc etc but then they also had methods like "GetOrders" within there too.I dunno I'm still very new to this type of design but I thought that the idea of the business objects was that they just represented business items, such as orders etc, so I thought they would just purely hold properties/fields and no methods or anything like that
i am on a project of two tier application with VB.NET + SQL server R2. except desk top applications i never done networked applications + i don't know asp.net
i require advise in few areas
(1) is the encryption required
(2) what are the security measures i must take in terms of connection security
(3) how to use the server effectively with out putting much burden through good client end design
(4) any other guide lines / pit falls
(5) should i continue with vb.net or must & should switch over to asp
(6) what should be the minimum configuration of client system,
(7) Preferable is the thin client systems , is it possible to use thin clients
I'm working on this program that Fingerspells words using the Gallaudet.TTF Font. Inside the program is a WordList Editor with a preview textbox that utilizes the gallaudet font. I load the font into the program as follows:
Private PrivateFont As New PrivateFontCollection.Private DrawingFont As Font. Private Sub WordlistEditor_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
I am referencing a project so I can create a messaging system on my website. [URL] how I would replicate this function in my dal and bll so that I can get the same output. In the example they use a datacontext. I mostly return datatables in frim my DAL.
public List<MessageWithRecipient> GetMessagesByAccountID(Int32 AccountID, Int32 PageNumber, MessageFolders Folder) { List<MessageWithRecipient> result = new List<MessageWithRecipient>(); using(FisharooDataContext dc = conn.GetContext())
I'm having a problem that's driving me crazy; I can't understand how to convert the XML structure into a class structure (that I want to use to hydrate a XML document).
The XML document looks like this:
xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <artists xmlns:opensearch="http://a9.com/-/spec/opensearch/1.1/" xmlns="http://www.spotify.com/ns/music/1">
I am using Visual Studio 2008 Setup project. I need to copy one folder and the sub folders into the program files but when I tried to copy or add the folder to "Application Folder" in File System editor, I am able to add only files and not folders.
I have recently built an N-Tier app using VB.Net 2008. The application is based on Beth Massi's tutorial at [URL] I am trying to incorporate a datagrridview control on a Parent form - one parent (father and mother) to many children. For example,
For my application, I want to have one form ("Action Form") that (1) remains visible, (2) reports progress in a scrolling text box and (3) receives user input via clicks to its command buttons and menus. While the program runs, I need to show some results in different forms in two other windows (let's call them "Graphic Form" and "Accounting Form"), updating these as we run. You might call these Read-Only windows.
That's it. Can't be all that difficult, right? I did it in VB6 with no problems. However, in my .NET attempts, once I update information on either of the other forms, my Action Form loses focus and I can't get it back. It's there and it keeps updating, but its menus and buttons don't respond any more.
Is it possible to manage three (or more) Forms in this fashion. Maybe the other windows should be Frames or something instead of Forms, but I can't see how to do that.(It may be because I'm using "Sleep" to slow the updates to readability on the other forms. Maybe I should be using a timer.)
EDIT:It seems to work so long as I take care to update the Action Form last of all, after the others, so maybe this is a "Never Mind."However, if anyone has any ideas on how best to implement Read Only Windows for auxiliary displays, I'd like to hear them
I am generally following this tutorial, the main differences being I'm using 2008 R2 Express and Windows Forms, he is using 2005 & ASP.NET Web Site:'m building a minimalist Windows Form project for learning purposes. So I'm using a 1-table database with 2 columns, ContactID & Name. I added a dataset file, 'ContactsDataSet.xsd' to my project and added a single minimalist table adapter with just a fill() & getdata() method. Then I added a DataGridView control and connected it to the ContactsDataSet to confirm it was working and that worked fine. I ran it and it filled up with data as expected. Everything up to this point was auto-generated code.
I'm trying to convert data from a vb6 application. Using get and put I saved a structure to a file in vb6. I'm now trying to read it into a vb.net class using BinaryReader.[code]...
I'm trying to develop a program structure in very broad terms. At this point, the Forms used do nothing but call other Forms and allow for their closure. After startup and initialization activities, I want the user to set up options and run the program. The program can be run again (click one button) and again with the same options, or (click another), the options can be changed for the next and subsequent runs. Clicking a third button will cause shutdown activities to be performed.
Sounds pretty simple. However, I get the options form the first time, but subsequent ShowDialog calls cause the form to pop up (I detected a Load and an Activated call) for an instant, then disappear, and the program rolls on without permitting option selection, even though the key variable NewSetup is definitely True.
Code: Public Class RunMain <STAThread()> _ Shared Sub Main()
I'm trying to write a short program to for work but I'm not quite sure how to structure the code. This is what I currently have;[v I'm pity sure this is majority the wrong way to structure it as at crashes with the IF/ELSE field going up to around 50000, but it does work (if a little sluggishly) when set to 5000.[code].....
I'm putting the finishing touches to a fullscreen Winforms Application in VB (.net 3.5, VS2008). This is Q2 for today, as I seem to be coming up with all these little glitches I can't figure out!!I have a webcontrol, which I use to show a PowerPoint presentation - by using webctl.navigate("c:MyPresentation.ppt").This works perfectly, and my presentation shows exactly as desired. However, sometimes, when I close my application, the Powerpnt.exe process is left running. Is there any way of programatically forcing this to close if it has been left open, or am I not disposing of something I should (I can't find anything along these lines when running powerpoint through a web control)?
How do I Automate the starting of a Powerpoint Presentation from Visual Basic? I would like to create a simple program in visual basic (2008 Express Edition that starts and runs a Powerpoint (powerpoint 2007) presentation in full screen on certain days of the week at certain times. The days of the week and times need to be user input variables.I am writing the program to automate a projector
I am looking for a way or a code that will change the colours used in a powerpoint presentation, I will also need to change the background colours of active x text boxes etc.
I want to embed a PowerPoint presentation with narration, timings and the presentation PASSWORD in my application so that it will automatically start the Pesentation and enter the password, when a button on the form is clicked. I want to do this so that the PowerPoint presentation can only be viewed from within the application, where the password is embedded in code, and cannot be run by just finding the PowerPoint presentation file and clicking on it to run it.
I do not intend for the user to be given the password. I would imagine that i could use process.start to run the presentation, which can be put on the target computer at the time of instal, but I don't know how to handle the password with code on the button.
If I have a small double in vb.net like this: dim x as double = 0.00000003 A conversion to a string would produce a E-presentation (3E-7). in debugging the value it will be shown as full number (0.00000003). How can I get the full number in a string?
I'm looking for a way to put a powerpoint presentation into a VB project I'm working on. Is this possible? I've searched google upside down, but I couldn't find anything usefull.
I am designing a vb.net application and I want the user to be able to access a powerpoint presentation within the windows form. Can anyone direct me to a good site with good enough instructions for VB.net (not vb 6
Im currently working on an n-layer application that does alot of database work.90% of all database queries are updates, and inserts and I want to be able to view the results of my query in the presentation layer.I was thinking of creating a QueryResult class that has a few properties like QuerySuccessful (boolean), Message (string) - holds success or error message, and optional field to hold any additional data that may need to be passed back to the presentation layer. So I guess my question is, am I going about this the correct way by creating a QueryResult class, and passing that back up through the layers to my PL?
Module Module1 Public Structure structure1 Public TRANS() As structure2 End Structure Public Structure structure2 Public X() As Integer End Structure End Module
So I'm trying to program a selection structure to display different commission rates per sales entered in a textbox.I need to have the commission total display alone. I have the simple interface done, but I'm having trouble forming the selection structure.
in a windows form if i want to duplicate the properties window layout on my form, which is basically a 2 column table with title on the left and value on the right, what control do i use to achieve that?
