I am referencing a project so I can create a messaging system on my website. [URL] how I would replicate this function in my dal and bll so that I can get the same output. In the example they use a datacontext. I mostly return datatables in frim my DAL.

I'm having a hard time joining 2 datatables and have the joined datatable as result. First datatable (labels) holds data including a printerid. Second datatable (printers) holds printer references (id > unc). I would like to have as endresult (joined) a datatable with all data from the first datatable with the field (unc) of the second datatable. [Code]

I'm working on making a game using VB, and part of the game involves being able to cast magic. What I did was put all the magic spells into a table in a database with the various properties I'll need at one point or another.The problem is that I need to only be able to select from a list of certain spells (Namely those your character is strong enough to be able to cast), and have it display the cost of the spell in a text box. I am building a winform project. It has 3 tabbed pages with 1 datagrid on each tab.I have customised the first datagrid to my liking and now wish to replicate this customistaion to the other 2 datagrids.What is the easiest/best to replicate the customisation code for Datagrid 2 and Datagrid 3. Is copying the code the only way and modifying it to point at Datagrid 2 & 3?

I have two UNTYPED datatables: "Shelfs" and "Books". Data came from different databases.
I must create a "left join" relationship because I want a list of ALL shelfs and books (if they have any).
Dim dset As New DataSet
dset.Tables.Add(dtShelfs)
dset.Tables.Add(dtBooks)

I spent hours googling around, but all examples I found were only applicable to strongly typed dataSets, and how to build queries (not to get the data)
I could solve this the "easy" way: by looping both datatables and sending the rows to a third one, but I want to do this the "right" way and, of course... LINQ exists to make things easier and I don't know how to use it

I have been searching for quite a while about joining multiple datatables via LINQ to dataset (When i say multiple, i don't mean just 2!!!), and it seems there aren't lot of examples in the net. I have seen examples of joining two datatables, done that, no problem there. Now i want to join three datatables. And there's nothing i can find out there.For example i have a 3 datatables:
PERSON (columns: person_id, name, gender_code, ethnic_code)
GENDER (columns: gender_code, gender_description)
ETHNICITY (cols: ethnic_code, ethnic_description)

I am trying to create a LINQ query statement that retrieve intersecting data from 3 datatables (dt, dt1, dt2). My first attempt to do so with the following LINQ query statement was successful: [code] However in my design, I would need the LINQ query statement to be dynamically generated, because I want a user to be able to retrieve intersecting data entries from VARIABLE number of datatables. In this case, the first option is not as good as the "INTERSECT" query operator, with which I can just easily connect each SQL query statement with a "INTERSECT" operator. The problem is that my second attempt using the "intersect" operator fails, and after many trials and errors I still can't get it to work. [code]

Ive been trying to replicate a listbox type control that ive seen on applications such as: Limewire, excel, etc where there is a Heading in limewires case lets say name, that you can resize to how ever big you want the colomn name to be (like a splitter) is there a control I can easily add or should I keep on working on buttons and resizing =)

I'm creating an N-Tier (or at least I think its N-Tier!) solution where I have the following:
WPF client side application (presentation layer)
WCF service hosted in a windows service (data access layer)
SQL database (data layer)
Now bearing in mind this is the first time I've tried to design anything like this, I might be going about it completely the wrong way...I've created 3 examples classes that would be my 'business objects' (im not quite sure where that fits in within the layers I listed above, because these business objects would be defined in a DLL that would be used by both the presentation layer and the data access layer). You can see them here:So then in my WCF service (data access layer) I would have methods like this that would be exposed to the WPF client:These are just examples but you get the idea. Is this the right way to do something like this?I saw one design that someone had posted somewhere that basically looked to me like it merged the Business Objects and the DAL together because in their class that represented an order, they had properties like you would expect for Order Number etc etc but then they also had methods like "GetOrders" within there too.I dunno I'm still very new to this type of design but I thought that the idea of the business objects was that they just represented business items, such as orders etc, so I thought they would just purely hold properties/fields and no methods or anything like that

i am on a project of two tier application with VB.NET + SQL server R2. except desk top applications i never done networked applications + i don't know asp.net
i require advise in few areas
(1) is the encryption required
(2) what are the security measures i must take in terms of connection security
(3) how to use the server effectively with out putting much burden through good client end design
(4) any other guide lines / pit falls
(5) should i continue with vb.net or must & should switch over to asp
(6) what should be the minimum configuration of client system,
(7) Preferable is the thin client systems , is it possible to use thin clients

I have this fully working with a massive wall of code and validations, but I want to dynamically add new datatables to shorten my code massively.I am pulling out rows from a database for quotations which are separated into batches. I've got a couple of drop down lists for languages. I bind them to a language list that comes from a query. Then the fields are also bound to the row in the DB they relate to. I have several panels with the language drop down - each "tied" to a different table in my DB. When I call up different records on the same panel the drop downs immediately "set to the position" of that rows language in the list. But when I call up another panel - tied to another database table - I see that language in the drop down.

I have not worked with VB in so long that I might as well be a newb.I know this can be done, and if I remember correctly, it is fairly simple, but for the life of me, I can't remember how.I have a textbox that will be used for entering a number.I have a combobox with a list of precreated options.I need to create the combobox as many times as the number entered in the textbox. Essentially I'm creating a list of items, the number of which is determined by the textbox value, the values of which will be chosen from the comboboxes. This means that the comboboxes all need to be linked as a group with sequential numbering.

I have a project where I need to add TabPages to a TabControl. I have a Panel with 10 checkboxes on it and I want to replicate that onto each TabPage as it is added.What I get is it is added to the first page, then when I add a second tabpage, the panel is moved there and not replicationed even though I used the (Add) method.

I have a listview where I can show a tooltip over each item and displays fine.However, I can't replicate for a Button.

I've inherited a tested function that processes incoming data from a .NET Serial Port. (Dim RXBuffer as string = serialport1.ReadExisting) I've written a different part of the application that processes a byte array as received from an asynchronous .NET socket.
Is there a way I can convert the byte array into a string as if it arrived from the serial port?
I would prefer to rewrite a very long 'if statement' into byte array functions syntax that look like:
