Although I signed up a year ago I didnt have enough free time to carry on programming, but have now made some time.
I have spent the past 2 hours trying to look for a code for visual basic 2008 that will check if a program is running.
It would be really helpful if someone wrote the whole code out and made it clear exactly where I put them name of the .exe file

I am creating a program that will check if a program is running, by checking its window title (NOT THE FILENAME, ITS WINDOW TITLE) and seeing if it is currently running.
So far I was only able to check if the program was running by its filename

I'm making a program in VB to check if a certain program is running, and if not, to start it up, because I'm hardly ever at my computer and sometimes the program that is being checked for existence tends to close down often, so I need something that will check for the existence of the program in question, and start it if it's not running

I have a program that 10-20 people use throughout the day. Because things are rapidly fluctuating I occasionally have to take the database offline, or restart the server for other reasons. I'd like to have a better way to make sure no one is currently in the program than walking to each person and asking them.
I don't want to re-invent the wheel if something like this already exists.
The thoughts I had were:
Create a database "history" entry each time users open or close the program to see who is currently using the system. Use WCF to have the clients "tell" the server that they are connected every X seconds.

What I'm trying to do is have a timer stop ticking after another program is x'd out. (Not really 'closed', but whenever the X button has been clicked). I know it would be an If statement, but i'm not sure how i'd go about implementing it from there.

I'm not asking how to exit the program( dispose() ) instead I have a program that checks if a certain process is running and if so it displays a message box, stops the process and (Should) exit the program. If the process is not detected then the program loads normally and opens an external program. My problem is that it stops the process and still runs the program. How can I fully stop the code and exit my program?

I wrote this VB program to be able to throw a device we developed into programming mode where we use an ATMEL Flip installer to upload new firmware. I can program one device after another running the application off of Visual Studio Express 2010 or Visual Studio 2010, but when I go to publish this file and run it on another machine, it becomes unstable and crashes after each upload. On those same computers if I run the raw unpackaged program under Visual Studio Express, the system does not crash, and I can program devices repeatedly.

I have developed a program with vb2010, created an installer with installaware and installed the program on my develop laptop and on my normal desktop pc (both win 7 64bits, but program runs on 32 bits).So on my laptop it run perfectly, but when I try to run it on my desktop pc, the only thing I see is the admin message (the program needs admin rights) and than nothing happends (even checked the taskmanager, it shows the program for a short while and closes it even as fast as it opens).I don't know what went wrong, the installer checks the framework which is needed (4.0), but I have that already installed on my desktop pc.

I've just created a program in Visual Basic.NET 2010 Express Edition, and the program works great on my computer. Unfortunately, when I try running it on other computers, the process on the Task Manager for it comes up for literally 2 seconds and then goes away, and the program does not run. Basically, the program doesn't open. I'm not sure why this is happening, and I'm not getting any errors.
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit, and I've tried getting it to work on two other computers, with no luck. The first one had Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit, and the second one had the same operating system as my computer. All computers have the .NET Framework 4 Client Profile installed, which is what my application is compiled to work with. I also tried compiling it to use .NET Framework 4 (without the Client Profile), and that didn't help.
If it helps, my References are as follows (which I believe are the defaults):
- Microsoft.VisualBasic.PowerPacks.Vs
- System
- System.Core

My VB.net framework 4 windows program work fine for the users on Windows XP machines if they are in the local Administrator Group. I would like to setup this click once application to run as an administrator so the user doesn't need to be in the Administrator group. The program is reading the"C:Documents and Settings" & User & "Local SettingsTemp" folder looking for files with extension like "emf", "tmp" and "htm" and then deleting the files if they are older than 24 hours. We have a third party application that adds these file and doesn't delete them so I need the users to run this cleanup program.

I want the program to check the number of items in a list box, then send use that number to form a FOR loop and send each to the serial port individually. It actually sends everything, but the program always crashes after the last one saying that the sdprintcount variable is an invalid number for the index. I don't get it as this happens no matter how many items are in the list, and it always crashes on the last one. It sends it, but then it says the index number is invalid.

Dim sdmods As Integer
Dim sdmodsp As String
sdmods = sandwichmodlist.Items.Count

I feel like the answers I seek are rather obvious so I feel silly for having to ask, but I just can't seem to figure this out (I'm new to threads, and am really only comfortable using them in Java at the moment). I have an Excel Addin application created with VB.NET, and I've noticed that occasionally while it's running some code (it's no one specific block of code) the program execution will just stop. This is especially problematic when I've set ScreenUpdating to False for Excel because the users then have to completely close out of Excel to get ScreenUpdating to true.

I'm working on a problem for my class, I've been stuck on this for hours so I've determined I would post here
I need the program to subtract 20% when a non profit check box is ticked (chkNP in my case)
I have the rest of the app functional:
CODE:
Basically the application is a tool or determining the cost of packages from an ISP
Package A: 10 hr access. $9.95 mo. $2 each additional hour
Package B: 20 hr access $14.95 $1 each hour
package C : unlimited. $19.95 a mo
So basically the app needs to apply a %20 discount to each of these when that checkbox is ticked

I am working on a tool that will better manage the server applications I run on my server. I have a working version of what I need written in VB6, I've tried converting the code from vb6 to .net with no luck. Basically I have a few server applications I would like to display the status of, if they're running or not. Then with a few buttons to start/stop the application accordingly. I've found a few different code snippets across the web which I've tried to implement in to my project with no luck.

I have an application that provides core services for a series of other applications.When another of these applications is started, I want to check that the service application is running and if not shutdown.What is the best method to check for the existence of the other app? I'm thinking that I should be using a global mutex in the services app and checking for it's existence in the other apps. Is this the correct way to proceed?
