Nov 1, 2011Hey guys, I'm a new guy in VB.NET. I am proposing my final year project a title called music studio. My version of music studio is like real music video where we can play many sound at any time. For example, the application that I want to build can create many button and also add an audio along with it. And then, when we hit the 1st button, it play 1st audio. while 1st audio play, we also can hit 2nd button and 2nd audio is playing. for example, 1st audio is sound of man walking, and then 2nd audio is the sound of glass break. lastly 3rd sound sound of police siren play. Is it cool? so, my question is, is it possible the I can build an application by using VB.NET?

Anyway To Read Text File With UTF-8 Encoding Using Streamreader Or File Stream
Jun 21, 2010i would like to ask is there anyway to read a txt file with UTF-8 encoding using streamreader or filestream. the txt file is contain some extended ASCII that makes me cannot read the characters properly. I hav tried Encoding.ASCII.GetString(Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes()) but still it return wrong character when it's reading extended ASCII code.

Jul 28, 2011After casually creating a program to manage media (music, films, photos etc.) I came across a lack of functions that could be solved be being able to identify the length/ genre/ album/ artist of the song in question. find these file attributes (using a database is out of the question due to lack of resources).I'm reading the song into a string array from the folder they are contained in with the code:

The program I'm working on is an alarm clock, so that may give you an idea of the problem. Basically, I just want the user to be able to select his/her own song to play when the time comes. So, the user clicks on a button, and an OpenFileDialog pops up. The user selects an audio file, and then that file is going to be the file that is played when the alarm goes off.
I'm not near my Microsoft Visual Studio at the moment, so I didn't have time to test it, but here is a code that I think may work:

VB 2010 - Text Reader Encoding And TextFieldParser
Apr 1, 2011I have a VB2010 project where I need to read a tab delimited 50MB file using Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileIO.TextFieldParser. This technique works fine until the reader encounters a Unicode character upon which it inserts the little square thingy. The obvious choice is to change the encoding of the reader to Unicode from the default. This would probably work fine but for most files but this one is fairly large and I get the error TextFieldParser is unable to complete the read operation because maximum buffer size has been exceeded. By the way this file can be read completely without the Unicode option. Making the file smaller or breaking it up really isn't an option. Is is possible to increase the buffer size or is there another way to read this data that places the data in fields like the textparser and allows unicode characters?

Apr 23, 2012I am creating xml files that contain chinese posts and it seemed to be working but I started getting an error:This page contains the following errors:error on line 4165 at column 25: Input is not proper UTF-8, indicate encoding !Bytes: 0x0B 0xC3 0xA5 0xC2
Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.When trying to open some of the resulting files.The line it references contains chinese characters and the error occurs only for some posts and my guess is that the text has some encoding issues.

I make sure the xmltextwriter is properly declared and set the encoding and from what I understand is that vb.net encodes everything in utf-16. My code works well with streams I get from another source that sometime contains chinese characters and it never invalidates the xml. I tried cleaning the text using the following functions and the xml is now valid but when viewing the xml in the browser the characters are not chinese but junk.

EDIT: I messed around with converting from one type to another, first ASCII to UTF8, then Unicode to UTF-8. did not work. The only time the xml is valid is when characters display as such:

Get (music) File Info Based Off Of File Path?
Jul 24, 2010I'm working on a personal project and so far everything is going perfect. Almost. I have a problem with getting music file info based off of its file path. I.e. "
C:UsersUSERetc." The only things I would need from y'all would be how to get the song's Artist(s) and Name (maybe there's something similar to 'AxWindowsMediaPlayer.currentMedia.getitemInfo("Information")' without actually having to play the song?
After I get this information, I would like to know how to add it to a ListBox as this: "[Artist] - [Song Name]", but I can do the text part if I know the getting-the-information part and adding-the-info-to-listbox part.

VS 2010 Get Music To Stop Once Form Is Closed?
Jan 25, 2011I created another form that had a pic and two simple buttons, one button plays music the other will stop the music if played and take you back to the previous form. My problem lies in when the users uses the windows "x" button to flose the form, the music does not stop. I have searched and failed and light that could be shed would be awesome.Apparently I saved the wrong file and am not on my VB box so this code is incorrect. I basically added the music to the resources, dim'd it and activated it with a button. The other button not listed in this code was set to "portal.stop()" and "Me.Close()"

String Encoding And File Writing
Oct 16, 2011I have a long UTF8 encoded text string. The actual values stored in the string are hexadecimal. I want to convert the encoding and save to a binary file.
Is there a simple encoding.convert or other method to do this with?
Basically the output is twice as large as it needs to be right now. The long way of doing it would be a routine to go through the string two characters at a time and convert to byte array and then .writeallbytes I guess. It seems there must be a simpler way of converting this?
WriteAllText To Set The Encoding For A Text File
Mar 7, 2011I used WriteAllText to set the encoding for a text file. When I wrote it, everything worked out fine. However, strange characters or symbols appeared in some ofm y fields without my having typed it. why is this so? The encoding I'm using is UTF8. I used the WriteAllText to write the fields to file but did not use the ReadAllText to bring the data back into the fields or program.

VS 2010 - How To Create Small App To Store Music Collection
Jun 17, 2012I am a beginner on Visual Basic but was able to create the 'skeleton' of the application I need to build. Basically, it is an application dedicated to keeping a check on the vinyl I have. When I buy a new record, I want to effectively 'Add New Record' on Visual Basic and be greeted with a page consisting of various forms such as 'Artist' and Title'. Once these are filled in, I want to click 'Enter' and for all that information to be converted to one of the pages within my application.
Here's an easier look at it...
There are LPs that have 10" and 12" sections.
There are singles that have 7" and 12" sections.
In the 'Add New Record' page I want to also have a drop down list with the above elements in, once 12" LP is selected and all the other forms are filled in and I click 'Enter' - I want the application to send it to the 12" LP section of the application.
