VS 2010 Removing Line From Either String Or Textbox
Aug 3, 2011
I have strMyString that contains about 5000 lines of data. There are some lines of data that need removing if they contain a certain string, such as "http", "www.", ".com", "cat", "fish", etc. The whole line needs removing. Each line is separated by a vbNewLine or similar.
How can I do that? Does it need pasting into a rich textbox first before processing?
I have not had much time to go threw my code properly as this is some urgency. I need to remove line 1 from a textfile if it contains a string but its not working.I have 500 files and not going to do this manually.
Code: Private Sub btnRemove_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnRemove.Click If String.IsNullOrEmpty(txtDirectory.Text) Then OpenFolderDialogDirectory()
[code]....
I also feel the function is very pointless sime i am opening the file twice.
I'm trying to build an app that would search a text file for a string entered by the user, and delete the line of text containing that string. Here's the code I have. The code works, but since I'm relatively new to VB and programming as a whole, I was wondering if there's a better method out there. he strFilePath is handled by the openfilediaglog
Dim strSearch As String = Replace(MaskedTextBox1.Text, "-", "") Dim strLine As String = Nothing Dim strAllText As String = Nothing
I'm trying to have a program remove lines from a text file if they start with a certain string. I haven't had much luck with this over the past couple of days so I thought I'd try and get some advice.
This is the code that I've tried most recently, and makes some sense to me, but gives a "A first chance exception of type 'System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException' occurred in mscorlib.dll" error:
Dim SourcePath As String = "C: est.txt" Dim fileLines As List(Of String) fileLines = New List(Of String)(File.ReadAllLines(SourcePath))
I am reading a list of IP's from a text file. After every procedure, the first IP (the first line) needs to be removed, and the new first IP will be read at the beginning of the next procedure. Basically, I just need to know how to get rid of the first line of a text file completely. For example, I'd like to go from this:
I'm trying to remove a line from a text file that begins with a set value.
The idea would be to paste values into a Windows form, which then finds each line that begins with that value (a 5 digit number) and removes those lines from the file, and then removes the gaps.
I wrote a palindrome earlier for a project which I figured out but I talked to a friend in another class and he was having issues with how to take out the punctuation. I dont think it was required on mine but I am just currious how that could be done using commands such as str.lenght, or str.trim those basic commands. Here is my last post that is related
I need to parse an alphanumeric string leaving the characters "0-9", ".", "/" and space & remove everything else. I use "[^0-9./ ]" as my regex string and it works well. But now I have a couple other conditions that I dont know how to handle with my regex string. I actually only want to keep the "." character if it falls between two digit characters (ie. 3.5), otherwise remove it. And also I need to replace any "-" characters with a space if it falls between two digit characters (ie. 2-1), otherwise remove it.
I have a file location as a string. How can i remove the path from the string and just use the file name? For example:c:filesfile.zip - is the stringhow can i just make it so it's file.zip?keep in mind that the location is found by using anpenfiledialog(), so it needs to be able to remove the location wherever the file is.
I have been using the following code to remove text from strings so far;
String = Replace(String, "TextToChange", "")
However, I now would like to remove two words only when the occur consecutively for example, I would like to remove "Task 1", not all instances of the word "Task" and value "1".
I have a multiline textbox that has wordwrap set to True I am assigning each line of the textbox to a string Lets say I typed this into the textbox without pressing enter and it just wordwrapped to the next line Visual Programming is fun it would assign "Visual Programming is fun" to the first string however, what i want it to do is assign "Visual Programming is" to the first string and "fun" to the second string.....now if i would have pressed enter after "is" then it would have done what I wanted it to do, but if i dont press enter and just let it word wrap it does not do what i want it to do...
I need to out each line of text to a seperate textbox. or label. Im not sure about a string. Can a string hold a value like, "192.168.1.1 2302"? If so, then how would i output it to a string. If not, textbox or label please. Please keep it simple as possible, since I will probably be needing to repeat this process 500 times, like, a different string for each line, i will have a lot of lines. Dont care about the textbox limit, as long as all the lines are outputted to each textbox.[code]
I need to remove an instance in a class for which I also created a dictionary with a string key type. Like this...:
vb 'Declare dictionary Public PersonsList As New Dictionary(Of String, Person) 'At the bottom of frmMain.vb
[code]....
As you see, I end having 120 instances of the class Person, each assigned with a string key consisting in "student1" to "student120".
At other parts of the program I repeatedly refer to PersonsList("student" & n) to set values at those class entries, mainly with a For n ... Next block.
Now... I need a routine to remove one of those instances for good, including its entry at the dictionary, so my first bet is this...:
vb Public Sub ExpellStudent(ByVal student_index As Integer) PersonsList.Remove("student" & selected_student_index) students_count -= 1 End Sub
I assume this is good enough to remove the KVP at the dictionary AND the class instance proper... right?Well, even if that is ok, I foresee one problem... Let's say I removed "student46". Next time I run a For n = 1 to students_count I would bet that I'll receive an exception due to having a gap at "student46" KVP... and that without saying that students_count will be 119, so it will never reach "student120".In short, I need a way to reassign the KVP of the now 119 Person entries, so they're consecutive again (I don't care about them changing their string key values), so I still could use my For n = 1 to students_count ... Next blocks without problems... but I cannot figure out how.
I am still very new to VB. I am having trouble working out how to remove lines within a rich text box, based on the next new entry into the rich text box.
For example: rtbClient (the rich text box) already has the lines: long cat is long he really is long cat is long
Now, if the next NEW entry into the rich text box is "long cat is long", then the new "long cat is long" string would be ignored because the line previous (and only the previous line and not all lines that already exist) is exactly the same. Note, I know of the Me.rtbclient.Lines = Me.rtbclient.Lines.Distinct.ToArray code, iv tried playing around with it with no luck.
Basically what I want to achieve with this code is to read the text file and import the corresponding line to its textbox. But when i run this code BUT_A.text returns the value that is set for BUT_B on the textfile then any code after that doesn't import at all. Here's the code I am using for the open button (I'll be adding a OFD later)
I have a WinForms app with a multi-line textbox. This displays and retains (after loading from the DB) line break characters fine. However if I assign the TextBox.Text value to a string variable and then re-assign the variable back to the TextBox.Text property, the line break characters are lost and replaced with a square character (can't past them here as they just paste as a line break!)
I have a checkListBox with items. I want a textbox to contain the items were checked. How can I go about removing it from a textbox if they user unchecks the item?
Private Sub frdList_ItemCheck(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.ItemCheckEventArgs) Handles frdList.ItemCheck Dim item As String = frdList.SelectedItem[code].....
I'm trying to make a tool that supposed to do the following. When I type i.e. the number 12345678 in TextBox1 and click on Button1. The number should go to RichTextBox1 on a new line with the text: There Are 12345678 Bannana
Now, when I fill in at TextBox1 12345679 and click on Button1, a new line should be added to RichtextBox1, making it: There Are 12345678 Bannana There Are 12345679 Bannana And so on... What ever I try I cant get this to work,
I'm working on a new project and i need the program to pick one of the lines from textbox1 on a ramdom way: I have 1 timer and i want something like when the timer "ticks" to pick a different line from the textbox ex:
I'm really stuck on something, which, is probably easy, but I've blown hours trying to figure this out.I need to be able to remove 1 line from a textfile. I will always know exactly what line it is, as, it's the same "string" as a variable. So if my variable is called "removeThis" then I need to be able to Read through the textfile, find the line that is equal to the removeThis string variable, and then rewrite the whole textfile.
I loaded a text file to a text box, and I want the program to find a certain line containing only the strings I specify. But the text file will likely contain many of them, so I want it to pause scanning at the first line I'm looking for until I tell it to continue, then the second line, and so on. So the questions are:
1. What's the method for finding the exact line I want in a text file?
2. How do you start, pause, and resume scanning a text file line by line?
