I have a ListView setup in details mode that looks like this: When the user presses the delete button, I need to go ahead and delete their record from the database. This I can do fine, but I'm stuck on how I retrieve the data that is highlighted in the ListView control. I've tried using Google but all the examples I found have failed to work.
View 1 RepliesI have a ListView control set up in details mode with 5 columns. It is populated by code using the following subroutine:
For j = 0 To 14
cmd = New OleDbCommand("SELECT TeacherName, ClassSubject, BookingDate, BookingPeriod FROM " & SchemaTable.Rows(i)!TABLE_NAME.ToString() & " WHERE (((BookingDate)=" & Chr(34) &

I have a User control having two panels. one at the top border and second at the bottom border of the control.
The panels contain some buttons on the click of which i want to display some forms. But I want thoes forms to act like children of the user control i.e. like MDi Parent - Child (here parent being User control and child being the new forms which would be opening). Unfortunately i've not been able to find any way of do'in so.
I am trying to build a front end for an access database I created I can connect to the database but when I try to pull data into a data grid view I get no results Here is the code what did I do wrong(I'm also new to vb)
search
Private Sub searchbtn_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles searchbtn.Click
Dim srval As String
Dim type As String
[code]....
I have this class:
Public Class Pizza
Public Sub New(ByVal name As String, ByVal cost As Decimal)
Me.Name = name
[Code]....
But I want the Cost property to be displayed in a label as I add each item into a ListBox. In context, I add an item from a listbox into another and when I do the Cost of each item will be added into the label. Like a checkout system and that's the running total.
I am trying to retrieve data from a Ms Access backend DB. However, for some reason it is not working. Hence me asking for help lol. Here is my good faith effort
Public Class Form1
Dim dsMenu As New DataSet
Dim con As New OleDb.OleDbConnection
Dim dbProvider As String

[EDIT: I've found the problem.] So if I have a checkedlistbox and put some random values in it, I can just retrieve the values like so:

I have the following code so far that's reading from my Xml Document:
For Each node As XmlNode In nodes
If node.NodeType = XmlNodeType.Element Then
' If name of node is FileTypes, then this is a main node
[Code]....
I'm trying to store the content of the current childnode in ftype but I'm having trouble figuring out how. How could I do this?
Here's what I was looking for:
mainNode.ChildNodes.Item(i).FirstChild.InnerText.ToString()
I've created a form that has a timer control. When this form loads it counts down before running a procedure. Simple.
Now I want to subclass this form in a new VB.NET project to so that another form inherits this form (an it's timer functionality) and runs a different procedure on this new form.My problem is that when I create the form in my new project the timer from the parent form seems to be running and when it's time is up it runs and code and crashes the VS environment.
I've searched high and low but have only found references to making sure the timer is disabled at design time. I've done this on the parent form but in this parent form's Load event the timer is enabled.... the purpose of the form. So when the child form loads it is enabling the timer. How can I work around this? Can I enable the timer from the child form? Timer is not visible when the child form loads so how do I manipulate it?
After getting the current mdi active child form, how can I get it's control collection so I can access their data?
View 8 RepliesI want to program a water supply pipeline network in a treeview control. It has five node (junctions). The parent-child relation is based on a parameter (say pressure). Initially, the node 1 is parent and its child nodes are 2 and 3. The node 3 has child nodes 4 and 5. At run time the pressure changes. Now, node 3 is parent and its child nodes are 1, 4 and 5. The node 1 has child node 2.
View 7 RepliesI am trying to find the handle of the child window for the Yes button in the User Account Control window so i can click it. This window has a structure with a few child windows with the same name.
Dim hwnd As IntPtr = FindWindow(Nothing, "User Account Control")
Dim hwnd2 As IntPtr = FindWindowEx(hwnd, 0, "DirectUIHWND", vbNullString)
Dim hwnd3 As IntPtr = FindWindowEx(hwnd2, 0, "CtrlNotifySink", vbNullString)
Dim hwnd4 As IntPtr = FindWindowEx(hwnd3, 0, "Button", "&Yes")
There are multiple CtrNotifySink with its own Button child window or other child windows. How do i search thru the different CtrNotifySink window to find the one that contain the Yes button so i can send a click to it? I do need to find it before i can send a click, right? because i try just sending it to the main window with sendmessage and nothing happen.I even try sending it directly to the handle found by spy++ of the yes button with bm click but nothing happen?
i have a one two many relationship on a form that loads empty so that the user have to do a search in order to populate the data into the form. To acomplish this, i created a filter (query) in the dataset. The filter works fine for the parent data, but how can i load its corresponding child data?
This is the code generated automatically when i created the filter in the DataSet:

View 3 RepliesI have a form that I put on the Web User Control, but "Submit" button is on the parent page.
The form contains user information. That same form displays for admins to edit a user and for the user to register and update profile.
I wanted to have the form in only 1 place to display in those 3 places.
The admin page will have a little more information on it, along with the "user info" control.
how can i reference items on the control page from the parent page?
I have an application going here Form1 has a panel on it named TargetPnl. I need my TargetPnl to display my user control named Vviewer when I click my SearchBtn and also need it to disappear when I click another button.
View 1 RepliesI have a problem in VS2010 with a user control i have created, I wonder if this is a known problem and if there is a resolution.
My project has a root namespace of DEV2.MyApp.I have created a user control and dragged it onto my form at design time.In the designer i get an error for that form that goes like this:-
Type DEV2.MyApp.myCtrl is not defined Me.myCtrl = New DEV2.MyApp.myCtrl ()I correct it by removing the namespace DEV2. like follows.Me.myCtrl = New MyApp.myCtrl ()
However, everytime i make an amendment to this form on the designer, the error creeps back. Its really annoying and I dont really want to resort to having to create the control at run time to get around it.
How can I transfer data from a web form to a user web control ? does the diffrence in the programming language affect ?
View 1 RepliesWhat is the best method to do data validation? I want to do data validation when the user exits a control so that he gets immediate feedback. I can use the Validating event or the Leave event for that. The problem is, that if the user doesn't know the right answer, and just wants to click the cancel button and leave the form completely, it won't let him. It continues to give him an error message until he completely deletes his answer. Very frustrating. Does anyone have a good method for doing this?
View 5 RepliesI want to make a user control (name MultiSelect), which I will use for choosing items from huge list. For example I want to choose customers to make a view of their turnovers, so I will creat a new MultiSelect control which will contain a textbox (i canwrite starting letters) and a treeview (will list customers matching the first letters chosen in textbox).
View 7 RepliesI am in need of a form that shows various options, exactly like the Options in Visual Studio. Since there are so many options I too want them categorized, with a TreeView to the left taking care of showing the right category. The usual 'easy' approach here would be to just place a TreeView control on the form, add some nodes, and give those nodes a tag or key that corresponds to a panel or UserControl with the options for that category.Since there will be a lot of options however, this is not really feasible design-wise; the form would be cluttered with possibly 50 panels, all of which I would need to select and bring to front from time to time to add controls to them that represent the options.
So I decided to create a custom control that does exactly that. The control is very similar to my Wizard usercontrol, users can add OptionsPanels at design time, which inherit Panel and simply represent one panel of options. When they do, the panel is added to a container panel, and at the same time a TreeNode is added to a TreeView. The control uses a custom ControlDesigner to handle design-time clicks in the Treeview, selecting a different node would select and bring to front the corresponding panel, allowing the user to add the controls he wants.
Due to the design time support the problem of having 50 panels is no longer present, only one panel will be visible at a time and selecting the right panel is as simple as selecting the corresponding TreeNode, just as during run-time. Anyway, I got all this working, but only for a single 'level' of categories. As you can see in the Visual Studio options, there can be multiple levels of categories. For example, the Environment node has a bunch of children, where each child represents one 'options panel'. There can even be deeper nesting, see the Text Editor node for example.Let me begin by drawing out the basics of how my control works so far.
The main control is an OptionsView control, which contains a SplitContainer with a TreeView to the left and a OptionsPanelContainer to the right. The OptionsPanelContainer is merely a Panel to which only OptionsPanel controls can be added, and which raises events when this happens, as well as when OptionsPanels are removed from it. An OptionsPanel also inherits Panel, and these are the actual panels the users will see in the control, one for each option category. For now, each OptionsPanel has exactly one corresponding TreeNode (and vice versa). In the Visual Studio options, each 'parent' category usually has a 'General' node as the first child, and the parent and this General node show the same option panel, but I am ignoring that for the moment.
The OptionsView control has a property Panels that returns the ControlCollection (Controls property) of the OptionsPanelContainer (in other words: it returns a collection of OptionsPanels that are in this container panel).
vb.net
<Editor(GetType(Designers.OptionsPanelCollectionEditor), GetType(UITypeEditor))> _ <DesignerSerializationVisibility(DesignerSerializationVisibility.Content)> _ Public ReadOnly Property Panels As Control.ControlCollection Get Return Me.PanelContainer.Controls End Get End Property
A custom CollectionEditor for this property takes care of the designer: even though the property type is ControlCollection, the CollectionEditor knows it should create instances of the OptionsPanel control instead of just Controls. When it does this, a corresponding TreeNode is also created and its Tag property is set to the OptionsPanel. Vice versa, the Node property of the OptionsPanel is set to the node. Hence the node and panel both know their corresponding object.
vb.net
Public Class OptionsPanelCollectionEditor Inherits System.ComponentModel.Design.CollectionEditor Public Sub New(type As Type) MyBase.New(type) End Sub Protected Overrides Function CreateCollectionItemType() As System.Type
[code]....
So far so good, this all works fine. I can add Panels via the designer and when I do a new TreeNode appears in the TreeView. I can select this node and the panel becomes visible (comes to the front). Now, I am a little stuck. How do I implement child option panels? And more importantly: how do I let the user add child panels? The most logical choice I think is to let each OptionsPanel have a property (ChildPanels or something) that returns the child OptionsPanels for that panel. Once the user selects an OptionsPanel then, he can look in the property grid to find its ChildPanels property and add child panels to that.
There is a problem though: what would this property return? It must return a ControlCollection of some container (this is, I think, a requirement for the designer features to work, otherwise panels are not added to the Form.Designer.vb file). But there is no container. I cannot add them to the OptionsPanel itself, that would make no sense because the parent OptionsPanel has its own set of controls (the options itself...), there cannot be another (fully docked) Panel on top of those obviously. The container of the main OptionsView then? That is not an option either, its Controls collection holds ALL OptionsPanels, not just the children of the selected panel. I cannot 'select' only the right panels either, that would require me to return a new instance of ControlCollection, it would be impossible to return the actual ControlsCollection that holds merely a small selection of its controls.
I have a bit of a problem creating a user control at the moment. I'm creating it within my current project via the 'Project> Add User Control' menu item. The problem is that when I create the control, run a build and add it to my form the controls within the custom user control are about one and a half times the size they should be.
[Code]...
I have code for make the usercontrol transparent:
Protected Overrides ReadOnly Property CreateParams() As CreateParams
Get
Dim cp As CreateParams = MyBase.CreateParams
cp.ExStyle = cp.ExStyle Or &H20
'WS_EX_TRANSPARENT
[Code] ......
These code shows the usercontrol transparent. But when the control moves I see that these control needs time to be transparent or drawing an image. Why so many time(maybe 2 seconds)? And why I can't use directions keys on keydown event? (The arrow keys are ignored).
I have created a user control. The user control has a button and a propertyGrid. I wrote a function to bind data to propertyGrid. When I click the button I called the function and datasource binded to propertyyGrid, its working fine. The same way am binding the grid from another class.vb, the datasource binding not throwing any exception. But the data not showing in the grid. Should I need to change any modifier.
View 1 RepliesI have several UserControls in an ASP:Repeater. They are 'Add to basket' User Controls with a text input for quantity and a button to add the item to the basket.
My problem is the value is being reset to 1 whenever I enter a value into the quantity text box. I think this is happening because the containing page reinitialised the repeater (which holds the UserControls) and the quantity is one again before the UserControl's click event is fired.
how to capture the value in the textbox before the Postback occurs, I am happy to stick this data in a session for now.
I am thinking I need something along the lines of PreLoad? But that didn't work for me
I have a created a user control. This user control I dynamically load on a page inside Telerik Panelbar control. I have done all necessary coding to save the viewstate and load this dynamically created usercontrol every time page loads. On this User control I have a asp panel. By default this panel is invisible. When user clicks a button on this user control panel is made visible. On page load of this user control I populate all the controls on this panel.Everything works fine if I dont load this use control dynamically but when I load this user control dynamically and if I make panel visible by default then only all fields on the panel are populated. But if I make by default invisible and on button click make panel visible none of the text boxes or comboboxes are populated. I populate comboboxes on page load of the userControl but inbetween postbacks all the comboboxes on the user control loose data.[code]...

View 3 RepliesI have a user control inside of a repeater that is being bound by a sqldatasource. I get the following error: Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control. EDIT: NEVERMIND Egg on my face. I was getting this databind error because I was binding it somewhere else in an effort to troubleshoot my real problem from last friday but I forgot about it.
WHAT MY REAL PROBLEM IS: The usercontrol is getting bound before the properties get set so it appears as if they are never set. When stepping through I see that they get on the property is hit before the set on the property is hit. For example if I put <%# EVal("Address_ID") %> before the user control I will see the ID displayed but then the user control will display an emptydatatemplate because it is being passed the ID of 0.
