View 2 RepliesI'm trying to create a program that installs required .dll's for a program due to a clean install..What I need to do is Get a value in the registry and use it for the program files path.. but I've noticed some pc's don't have the same configuration because of the version the user is using. Anyway This is what I have so far:[code].....
What I'm trying to do is find a registry key called "SoftInstallPath", if found I need the end of the path to goto the new directory(new_dll) not the old one (dll).. and if "SoftInstallPath" cannot be found.. I need it to find "ProgInstallPath" and use it instead and do the same thing.By the way I'm using Visual Studio Professional 2008 on a Vista x86 machine. Also error I keep getting is: Warning 10 Function 'FixPath' doesn't return a value on all code paths. A null reference exception could occur at run time when the result is used.
I have several executable files that make up a full .NET application. One of the .net applications downloads a new version of the software, exits the main application, makes file changes directly inside of the c:program filesmy application area directly. I install this application using Installaware and it is code signed and verified with godaddy, so it gets around the antivirus programs. This has been running for a long time, and I never put too much thought into what security levels are allowed to directly access the files in this area, because it always seemed to worked perfectly in Win7, Vista and XP.
Now I have created a virtual machine, one inside Windows, and then one inside Parallels on a Mac. In these two virtual machines, the executable file that installs a new version of the software only works properly if I choose the two options on the compatibility tab in Windows, "Run this program as an administrator" and "Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 7". Now I have found this article: [URL]. This even let me set up my registry settings in the set up of my program so that one specific exe will just run properly. I am concerned about just patching something this way.
With Visual Studio running in the virtual machines, the code executes perfectly. When I run the executable that I JUST COMPILED from Visual Studio, that executable will only run properly with the choices stated above, or more specifically, this registry setting:
"c:\program files\onespot\onespotinstall.exe"="WIN7RTM RUNASADMIN"
The exact same PC that has been mirrored onto these virtual machines works fine. It has been impossible to troubleshoot where the problem lies. The line of code that gets executed to EXIT the main program finds the process, and does a gentle shut down. That works fine. Even testing inside that application works fine. But I never can get a return from the Process.Start line. Narrowing down to a line of code is not working.

I have an order entry system which was developed using vb.net it uses an ms access database.I think I might be able to use mono?I'll need an IDE if possible.
Can someone tell me what I'll to download and what problems I might face, also any suggestions.
The app I'm creating is about ordering pizza, this is a screen shot of the form.At the moment, I have only set up customer 1, when i enter in all the information and click total at the bottom it is supposed to then display all of this information in the listbox at the bottom. But when I click total nothing happens I have looked at this over and over and can not understand why. Here is the code that I am using.

I am writing a program which includes access to a Microsoft Accsess database. It is running fine on my work computer (windows xp) but when I transfer it to my laptop (windows 7) to work from home it stops running on the "open" statement. I have stripped out all other code so that I just have a program with this in:
[Code]...
Again this will run fine on my desk computer but will not get past the open statement on my laptop.Interestingly, if I start a brand new project on my laptop and paste this code into it - it runs correctly.
I have two text files, first text file looks as follows
File1
String1 String
String2 String
String5 String
String8 String
These fields match some of the fields in my File2, but here there is an extra column which shows a numeric field for that row.

Its straight off the Microsoft site found here: [URL]
When I add the required components and click on the button, my app simply disappears, closes, goes right back into a stopped state. No errors, No Warnings, No issues. Nothing. Its as-if there is a stray "END" just before the IF statement. (But there isn't) Its stopping right at the IF statement. My app (THEIR CODE) just makes it disappear and "Stop". The code was working about an hour ago, but now nothing, and thats the only code on the project.
Every time I compile my application, during install I get the error:Cannot download application, the application is missing required files

View 1 RepliesDoes vb 2010 have a 'REQUIRED" property or control that allow you to make a textbox a "required" field? I googled and saw something about required property in controls in toolbox but somehow I could not find it anywhere in my vb 2010 toolbox. Would it be easier to write it? Does anyone have sample code?

On the da.Fill(ds) line i'm getting the "No value given for one or more required parameters." I've pulling my hair for hours because I've similar working pieces of code on other applications.
I wrote this VB program to be able to throw a device we developed into programming mode where we use an ATMEL Flip installer to upload new firmware. I can program one device after another running the application off of Visual Studio Express 2010 or Visual Studio 2010, but when I go to publish this file and run it on another machine, it becomes unstable and crashes after each upload. On those same computers if I run the raw unpackaged program under Visual Studio Express, the system does not crash, and I can program devices repeatedly.
View 5 RepliesI've been working on a program that generates a batch file, then when you press a button, it executes that batch file. There are multiple batch files attached to each item in the list box.
[code]...
The only thing that it does when I press the button, is starts the batch file, then goes to function searchtitle, which executes the batch file again when it finds out it didn't work properly. The button text doesn't change, none of the items are being added to my first list box, and I can't do anything to the window after pressing the button. It constantly opens the batch file every 5 seconds or so.
The program allows users to insert Documents along with a bunch of their attributes into the program. The documents are stored in a relational database. One of the required functionalities is allowing the user to look for such documents. The User normally search directly for the obvious attributes of the document, like a unique ID, or it's Title. The problem is that from the search parameters is not allways known which ones will the user fill. For example the user inserts the name and version of the deocument, another time the user enters part of the Title and the person that delivered the document, or might just enter the document number and nothing else. Some of the data might even be incomplete, like title, name of the person who created the document and so on. The idea from the person who designed the system (I'm only reimplementing it) was to allow easier searches for the user, and allowing the user to search for more parameters tod with the idea that "the more parameters, the more specific results", since the results are always group of documents instead of single documents.

I'm really new at programming and was looking for guidance about a project I have.I have to design a program that administers a multiple choice test to users. It delivers questions one at a time, from a predefined test file for the user to answer. It also marks and displays a score at the end of the test.
First, a QUESTION form verify's the user's registration status and access. The user provides a registration number and password and the program reads it from a "registration.txt" file to determine if the user is eligible to take the test (i.e., they are registered to take it). If it is correct, then the user presses the "Begin" button. If not, then a message appears and the student tries again to enter the information.
A read only text box will display the score at the end of the test (String with format correct/total) and the user can't retake the test.Second, a QUESTION form opens after clicking "Begin" on the entry form. The questions are going to be from a "testfile.txt" file. Each question is on multiple lines in the file. The first line consists of the question followed by possible answers followed by the correct answer ( 3 items are separated by "#"). The current question number and the question will be displayed in textboxes.'n'= possible answers; so each of the next 'n' lines provides a possible answer. All possible answers will be displayed in a Listbox. After the user selects an answer, an ''Enter'' button is pressed. This will submit and evaluate the answer. If nothing is selected a textbox should appear and display the error message (APPEARS ONLY IF THERE IS AN ERROR). After pressing ''Enter'', the next question is displayed. When all questions answered, the entry form is displayed again and displays the score.
I know that's a lot of information, but I wanted it to be really clear. Would it be best to cycle/loop the questions with a DoWhile loop? And how would I store the answers while the user goes through the test?
I want to associate my program with a certain filetype. I know how to do this, but my question is: how i can i see witch file is opened?

I am currently working on a family project which is based on "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" show. There is a huge diffrence between the show and my project. My project is a christmas edition and the goal is not to get money or something, since I will not add it... Erhmm... Let me get to the point. I have already designed a layout and scripted some things. I have about thirty questions but I do not want them to always spawn in the same array, if you know what I mean. I want the program to randomly choose one of those thirty questions and NEVER choose the same question in the same program run. By the way, there are four options on my project: A, B, C and D. I have got everything, I just need a code.

I'm trying out something with my Access db and gets this recurring error message: "No value given for one or more required parameters", even though there is no parameter in my query. Here's my code (By the way I am using Northwind DB):

strSQL = "SELECT CompanyName FROM Customers"
Dim con As New OleDbConnection(strCon)
Dim cmd As New OleDbCommand(strSQL, con)
