View 8 RepliesI am creating an application for a college assignment called "Quote Manager" - the idea is a writer can save his / her favourite quotes, then go back to them and be able to print them.So I had this idea where all the quotes are loaded into a datagrid view on the main screen of the program and the user can double click on the quote he / she wants to load.
I don't want any code given I would also post what I have got so far but at the moment I am at work.What I want is to know how to manipultate the datagridview control so when a cell is double clicked a saved html page will load from a database.
I have a program that gets some information from the user and updates the database.I also have two DataGridView, OpenOrders and ItemsInOrder When the user click on a cell in the OpenOrders a CellChange event is triggered and it updates the ItemsInOrder grid view. Now after I update the quantity of a product i want to cause that CellChange event to trigger again in order to refresh the ItemsInOrder grid view.

I'm working in VS 2008, vb.net. I have a data grid that is getting filled based on a store procedure. When I preview the datagrid, I will get 29 rows back. This includes rows that have NULL values in it. And that's what I need. But when I run the program, it will only return in the Datagrid 12 rows, the rows that don'r have any NULL values. Where or how can I change it so the DataGrid will show NULL values?
View 2 RepliesI have a datagridview control that will be used to allow the user to input records. The control uses a combobox column to select a type of service. There is a rate associated with the type of service that I then want to display in the grid. The user then enters a quantity and the last column mulitplies the rate and quantity to get a total. I have the combobox , quantity and total columns figured out but I don't know how to get the rate column to automatically be selected when the type of service is selected. Below is the code.... sets up the datagridview

I have a datagridview on a form with a date column. (column0)
I am trying to sort this by date desending but it will only sort by the day (dd) and not the whole date (dd/mm/yyyy) which leaves the months and years unsorted.

I have been told " Make sure the Date column is a date type and not a string " which i have taken as the access database column type. I have set this as Date but it still won't sort the column in datagrid view by the whole date.

This code works and the only problem is that after running the code the excel application does not close.Now I need to write the completed updates from the datagrid view and the other controls back into a workbook.Ive been searching around but have not found the proper way to do this and how to kill the oexcel application in the code above.
It seems that on clicking datagridview column header, the column will be automatically sorted based on the column type. I have a column showing some numbers. If column type is string, it sorts "1","20","3" into "1","20","3". If column type is double, it sorts into "1","3","20" which is the result that I want. However, there might be some erros in the numbers and error messages(text) will show in the cell instead of numbers. So I cannot set the column type as double. I want to ignore these error messages and sort all the numbers. How can I do this?
Also, I need to add some background colors to different rows in datagridview. So in the column header click event, I call the bkgColor Sub to achieve this. My question is that how can I override the sorting method in this event?

I have a single-user client-server app (i know that sounds stupid, but its for future expandibility and also the fact that documentation was easier to find for SQL server than Access files).The app is basically a medicals records system.
In one of the tables, called 'visits', it stores the dates on which each patient visits the doctor, among other things like symptoms and diagnosis. Another table stores all the patient names and IDs along with other details, and a relation has been set up between the patient ID in the patients table and the visits table. So i dragged the visits table from within the patients table (to get only the visits for that particular patient), and dragged it onto the form to make a datagridview. However, the datagridview didn't seem to recognise MS SQL server's smalldatetime format, and tried representing it as a picture. When i changed the format of the column to text boxes, it gave me a type mismatch error (Inconvertible type mismatch between SourceColumn 'VisitDate' of DateTime and the DataColumn 'VisitDate' of Byte[].) That means, for some reason, it is trying to convert the smalldatetime data to byte before it shows it, which is leading to the error. How do i fix this?
Also, I remember seeing some option for using completely custom column types in the datagridview, but i cant seem to find it now. The options in 'Edit Columns' are very limited, but i would like to set it to a masked text box, or something with a fixed format. Can someone recommend a good column type for representing dates, and how to make the datagridview show that kinda column?
how to retrieve image from access database?.. I've just finish retrieving data to the datagrid view. I want to retrieve also the image (also stored in the database as path inside the table where the data stored) in the picturebox. When i clicked the specific data in datagrid view, it will show preferred image to picturebox.

I started a forms solution in VB 2008, created a datasource to an access database (2010) and used the datagrid view to display the data. 3 fields in the access database are lookup fields with 2-8 values each, typed in by me, since the linking to other fields did not work. This is not working either. When I change the column to combo-box or not, those values, typed into access, are NOT showing up in the datagrid. the combo box has its drop down arrow but the value fields are empty.

Clicking on an entry in the datagrid (I want to make this double-click, but haven't bothered to try yet) highlights the row, and loads the values to a new form, in read-only text boxes. Clicking Edit changes the read-only value of these text boxes and allows you to edit (obviously) the contents. I have another button, Save which I want to click to commit the changes to the loaded items in the datagrid.

I am a co-op student learning vb.net and I have a project which retrieves data from an xml file within the program (based on selections made from combo boxes) and calculates and displays prices.[code]I have one combobox that loads data from the Processes section just fine, but then another uses the same method and gets an "IndexOutOfRange" error or "Column AB12345Bed_Size Not Found" even though I am using the same method for both. For "Processes" I am using DataView.Sort on "<12345Material_Process>" which reflects the selecteditem in the combobox. The program retrieves that row without a problem. [code]
