May 24, 2009i want to download VS2010 Beta can i download it normally without having any problems in my VS 2008 Pro edition?or do i need to unistall it first?

How To Publish A Program Which On Installing On A Computer Asks For The Drive For Installing?
Sep 9, 2009I created a program and published it using the wizard through the "Property" in menu.
When I used the Published program to Install it in my same computer it got installed in "StartMenu".
I didn't get the option to select the Drive for Installing it like what we get when installing other program.
how to make that option to appear on installing the program?

Jan 24, 2012I'm running Windows 7 Pro and am trying to install Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate from a zip drive. When I double-click on the "setup.exe" app, I get the following popup errors (see attached screenshots).
I would think there would be no compatability issues but that's just me!

Nov 7, 2011I've managed to produce a simple project in vb 2010 express and to publish it onto a cd. I can install the project from the cd and run it successfully on my windows 7 machine where I developed it but trying to install it onto a windows xp machine produces the message:

Oct 24, 2011I have several fonts I want to include in my program to be used, or just want to put them in a folder with my program, or some method of adding them to the program without having to install it on any PC that I want to use the program on.
So basically I want to Either
A. Include the fonts in the program so the program can use them
B. Find a way to have the program use the fonts without them being installed on the PC.
VS 2008 After Installing Application?
Nov 3, 2009I want to distribute this program I've made and it has a database it needs to install. So I made the setup project and put the database in the "application folder".
I built the setup project and ran it. It does successfully copy the database file into the application folder. But when I run the program it says file cannot be found, even though the file does exist and at the path specified where the program says it cannot find the file.

From what I've been reading, APIs seem like the way to go. But, if I can, I'd like to keep it to managed code.
I've checked with the manufacturers to see if they had any available APIs that could allow me to do the automation, but they have none
What do you all think is the best approach? Is there any .NET methods to assist me? Or do I have to go with APIs and unmanaged code?
VS 2008 Installing A Windows Service In .Net
Apr 2, 2010I have had some success making a windows service but I can�t seem to fix a simple issue
I can get the service to run through my code once, but I can�t get it to loop, well I can but then the service will not start correctly and just times out while the code is running.
How can I get the service to start and then loop, at the moment it just says starting service and the code is looping but the service wont start! Windows times it out after a few mins.

Jan 9, 2012I realize this post is rather long, but I wanted to give all the information up front instead of people having to ask me for more information.At the end of the re-installation of Visual Studio 2008, there is this message:
"Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard. MSI returned error code 1638" in the log file dd_error_vs_procore_90.txt.
I have searched on Google for this whole message and found some references to this error, but I have done what they said worked for them and it did not fix the problem for me.When I searched for just "MSI returned error code 1638", I got that it cannot install something because it is already installed:"Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel".In Add/Remove Programs I see these two programs:
Microsoft SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard 1.3
Microsoft SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard 1.4
Are these programs/versions what the error is refering to? Am I safe to remove them and depend on the similarly-named item which would be newly installed with Visual Studio 2008 - "Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard"? I still use SQL Server 2000 and 2005 on my computer, as well as 2008. I had installed VS 2008 on my computer before without this problem and also have VS 2005 and 2010.

Installing A Sql File
Nov 13, 2010I have a sql file that i need to use with Visual Basic, im assuming i have to install it as i had to do that with a different sql file, the only difference between the sql file i have now and the other one i had is that the one i need to use with VB has only an sql file and does not have a database file that goes with it, this one is only an sql file. I have opened the file in SQL server management studio express and executed it over and over and it says (1 row(s) affected) (I have attached a screenshot) but nothing happens. If you look in the screenshot, on the left hand side you can see the "Pubs" database, that was the other sql file i had that had a database with it and it installed fine. Im really not sure what else to do with this.

Installing App On A Different Domain?
Jun 9, 2011I have an app that I've developed that has a vb.net front end and a SQL Server 2000 database backend. I currently have it running fine on my machine and it also installs fine on all the users that are inside the domain that the app was written in. When I try to install my application on another domain it hangs and doesn't even run the install script.
Has anyone ever experienced problems installing an app accross domains?
Is there something that I need to code differently to make it non-domain specific?

May 30, 2009i can publish my app fine.it creates the setup and the rest of the files, whatever they are.on my operating system, the setup runs fine.when trying to install it on another system, it asks for the microsoft 3.5.net.this update can take quite a while.how can i publish my app, in such a way that it can run from the files in the setup and not have to have any other addons, as .net framework. i know it's possible, since i was able to install other software before i had the .net framework.

Nov 6, 2009When I test run my programme (F5) it automatically saves files in a folder that is within the test project.I'd like to create a folder that is created when the programme is first installed (My Documents or in within the programme folder). How do I do this? I also want to give it a specific name instead of a name being given to it automatically. I know how to create a folder and save files in it during the test runs when I press F5 (If directory.exists etc etc etc) but that is during the runtime - how do I make a folder already available that is created during installtion.
