VS 2010 Two Timers Running At Same Time
Apr 10, 2012
I'm creating a 2D RPG game, the character moves by pressing the keys A (left) and D (right), this activates a timer that increments the x.position of the character by 1 pixel in case you press D, or decrements if you press A. The movement of the main character is always perfect and smooth and this is how I want to do it, but when I add other character and I animate them using the same method, they dont have a smooth movement, but if I press A or D these characters regain a smooth movement, so, basicly, the second timer (which is always enabled) only increments a value smoothly if the 1st timer (not enabled) is activated.

I want to expand it a little bit and add a second timer that runs parallel to the first timer, but is not affected in any way shape or form by the first timer.
I want the timers to run like this:
Time Timer1 Timer2
0 X X
1 X
2 X
3 X
4 X
5 X X
6 X
7 X
8 X
9 X
10 X X
Ive tried nesting the second loop in the first loop but the second loop takes 3 seconds to complete, so I found that it froze the first loop till the second loop finishes. I was reading about system threading (System.Timers.Timer) and it seems like that is the route I want to go.
I wrote this quick as an example:
This assumes that I added a windows timer control as timer1
vb
Option Strict On
Imports System
Imports System.Timers

When I run my app at first its keeps time accurately for the first minute or so there after it starts loosing seconds, and by the end of the day its minutes behind.I've created a class called ServerTimeTimer that has a timers.timer object that elapses every second and adds a second to a dateTime variable, and a property to retrieve the date time.[code]

I cant use the timer1 to set off the second round of events because of the thread.sleep. I was hoping that the code above puts the second thread to sleep while the windows.form.timer continues on ticking every 1000 ms

I'm creating a multi-threaded application (although it is not at the moment) which will be connecting to a large number of sockets. I've noticed when a connection cannot be made the connect timeout is rather large, so I am trying to make my own. Here is what I have come up with...
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
CreateSockets(2)
AssignSockets(0, "192.168.31.2", 80, False, False) 'shouldn't connect
AssignSockets(1, "192.168.1.1", 80, False, False) 'should connect
[code]....
Looking at the timeoutOccured() sub, you can see I'm unsure of how to specify which index to set. Efficiency is important since this will be housing a lot of connections at once. Something else that just came to mind, would .theTimer.Stop reset the tick value on the timer?

I'm considering making an application that will perform various tests against servers on a local network - for example pinging them, checking hard drive space, checking the state of services, whether or not databases are available, etc etc. Very similar to Hostmonitor if anyone has ever used that - but my app will be free
These tests would have to be performed at specified intervals, but the problem is that there could be literally hundreds of tests and I'm not sure how well my app would cope with hundreds of timers running... especially if they are all configured to run every minute or two (they all need to run independently of each other).
Really I'm just wondering how you guys would design such a system. The best way I can think of is to have a separate timer associated with every test and then when a test's timer has elapsed use the ThreadPool to do the work that the test will perform. That way if loads of them happen to run at the same time then the ThreadPool will queue them rather than trying to run say 200 at once. I also think I would need to have some kind of staging for when the app first starts, so that every single test is not going to have the exact same time to run (well, every test that has the same interval configured), but that shouldn't be too much of an issue.I guess it would be a good idea to try and use some sort of grouping so that more than one test can use the same timer - like if 20 tests were set to run with a 5 minute interval then I could use one timer and run all of the tests when that one timer fires.

Alright, so I'm still working on the slot machine. I have three timers all independently going for my three "wheels" of the slot machine.
My issue, is that I'm trying to make a Stop button to stop each timer one at a time, and I'm not understanding why this code isn't working. The logic completely makes sense, and the first "wheel" stops when I click the button, however, it doesnt appear to stop the other two timers.

Which is less resource-intensive (per se):
> Add controls/components (such as Performance Counters, Timers, etc.) to a project by dragging them onto the form and using them by setting the properties and using code to program what they do.
> Add controls/components (such as Performance Counters, Timers, etc.) to a project by using Dim x As New Performance Counter or Dim y As New Timer in code without actually dragging them from the Toolbox onto the bar at the bottom (under the Form Design).Or is there another way to do this that uses less CPU/RAM/Resources/etc.?

I have a project that will run while I'm working on it only once. The second time I try to run it I get the following error.
The operation could not be completed. The process cannot access the file
Does anyone know what that error means and why I'd have to restart my computer every time I want to run the project a second time?

I have created a main application form that has buttons that start up various other applications.
Following advice on here from a previous post, I have imported all the files of each separate application into the main application.
There will be times when the user wants to run more than one of these applications at the same time. I know you can just import the '.EXE' file of each app, and you can then run several at a time. But because I have all the files without the .EXE, you can only run one at a time, you have to close one app to start another.
My question is simply; Do I have to import the .EXE file of each app, or is there some code I could put in my main form that will allow me to run more than one app at a time? (the reason for having all the files of each app is so you can make any alterations without having to open each app separately).
The code below is a typical code for one of the applications start buttons, all the buttons codes are the same, apart from the app name, the buttons are imported, so not standard buttons.
Private Sub btnCoordsCalc_ClickButtonArea(ByVal Sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.MouseEventArgs) Handles btnCoordsCalc.ClickButtonArea

I'm writing a scripter using VBScript, that should be able to execute multiple scripts at same time, running on own threads.
The issue is, I DO start those scripts on different threads, but their sleeps still seem to affect the other threads too.
For example, let's say I start 2 scripts
In the Main event
NewScript1
NewScript2

In my program's Form_Load I randomly generate a time value. Once I generate the time value, I put it in a DateTime variable. I need it to work like a clock. I know I can do this with a timer with an interval of 60000, or using TimeGetTime and updating a variable. Is it possible to do this with a thread?

I am trying to run powershell script from VB and I want to see the output of the script as it is running inside a console application. With my script (shown below) when I run from powershell it shows "Command Sleep Starting" and then waits for 5 seconds and then displays the other text.
However, when I run from VB.NET program, the execution waits for 5 seconds and dumps all the text output at once. It doesn't execute first Write-Output command and then wait and then output as it should.[code]...
