View 2 Repliesi made an application vb.net 2008 express edition when i am debugging flash files r working fine when i am publishing the app flash files are not running?
View 2 RepliesIn my code I've allowed used to create their own mazes and save them, under whatever name they like. I've also included a few pre-created mazes. The mazes themselves are saves in .txt files in the bin/debug folder of the project, along with a .txt file containing the maze names.
I really need to publish this program to send it to my teacher, but when I publish it it doesn't include any of the .txt files in my bin/debug folder.
When a project is built in VB, the executable file is created in the \bin\Release folder. Apart from the executable there are other files that get created:
MyProject.application
MyProject.exe.manifest
MyProject.pdb
MyProject.xml
Are these files required to run the executable? Is having just the MyProject.exe file in the setup enough? And what are these files for?
I have added some files that I need to be downloaded to the Application start up path. So I set Build Action as content now the files have been copied some where

How can access file from the application. My problem since it is a dynamic path will it be same folder count so that we can use like ....Data Some think like this
Using: VB 2008 Express?I created an application that connects to my MySQL, and everything works fine, but...
1. On my development computer, Windows 7, 64bit, I add the MySQL.data.dll file as a reference. I publish the program, run the setup.exe, and sucess.
2. I then copy my published folder to my test computer, Windows Vista 32 bit, and upon running the setup, the program fails to work because it cannot find the Mysql reference.
3. I then transfer my entire project over to my Vista computer, publish the program, run the setup.exe, and sucess.
4. I finally found out what was happening. My Windows 7 comptuer was not including MySql.Data.dll.deploy file in the Application Files published directory; but when I compiled it on the Vista machine this MySql.Data.dll.deploy was included.
So, in the end, I cannot compile the program on Windows 7, because it fails to create the .deploy file, and use it on Vista or XP (for some reason Win7 doesn't need this .deploy file?); but I can publish it on the Vista machine and install it fine on Windows 7, Vista, or XP. My targe CPU setting is Any computer.
I could not figure out the key to installing folders/subfolders/.rtf files during deployment/installation. The key here is to 'add' folders and subfolders to the project in solution explorer, then adding existing item (.text (.rtf files in my case) files) then selecting the .rtf file in solution explorer.go to its properties and under 'Build Action' select 'Content' (very Important!). Then under 'Copy to Output' select 'Copy if newer'!Then in code to access these files you use the following code:
Me.RichTextBoxDisplay.LoadFile(Path.Combine(Application.StartupPath, "KJV BibleOTExodusExodus KJV.rtf"))
Finally after 3 days of research and 2 days at the msdn forum picking peoples minds (smarter than mine) and lots of prayer, I got it!
About publishing my program. there's a lot of files made after publishing unlike in vb6 when i converted it to exe file theres only one file. hmm how can i make just one exe file in vb9 is it possible? another question do i have to install the program after publishing?
View 5 RepliesApparently this is a rather common issue but after 3+ hours of searching I still couldnt figure it out...After publishing my application when I try to run it, an error occurs wherein it can't locate my database.

View 10 RepliesI have this vb program that uses 2 dlls i made in c++, the dlls are attached to the project and are set as "copy always" and in vs debug mode they work fine, however when i try to publish the program and run it it can no longer find the dlls even tho they are right there next to the program itself the dlls are declared as following: Private Declare Function Trace Lib "Lowstuff.dll" (ByVal targ as IntPtr) As UInteger.so what im thinking is that maybe theres like a switch in project settings i didnt flick or maybe i need to specify the dll with full path or wut?
As it turns out it had nothing to do with vb afterall, it was the c++ dlls that had to be made as static. However now i have a new problem: Im geting a bunch of overflow exceptions from my program but only on other computers, in the dev machine it reports no errors or warnings whatsoever, i also went over function where the error was generated and all the functions it used and detected no fault so how am i supposed to track these down?
Note: This question is similar to How to prevent the copy of XML documentation files in a release mode build?, but it's not the same and the answers there don't apply. Read on to find out why. (Please ask in the comments or in chat if you disagree, I'll be glad to elabroate).
I have a library project (myLibrary) and an ASP.NET web application project referencing this library (both are in the same solution). "Generate XML documentation file" is checked for the library project, because I want to have those nice IntelliSense features while developing.
When I publish the web application (Context Menu on the project/Publish...), it copies only the files required for running the application (no source code, etc.) to some publish directory. That's good. Unfortunately, it also copies the XML documentation file of the library. Since I consider our library's documentation to be a trade secret, I wouldn't want it to end up on a customer's server. Thus, we have to remember to manually remove this file from the publish directory before deploying it.
Is there a way to prevent Visual Studio from copying this file when publishing the ASP.NET project, but still retain the benefit of XML documentation IntelliSense when developing?
I've made a fairly good Windows form application to solve quadratic equations, but I am having a hard time understanding the publication process microsoft uses in Visual Studio. I'd like to distribute my programm as freeware on my blog.

View 1 RepliesI have a solution with two projects. The main project connects to the second project via a reference, and the reference path is local to my machine. It looks like it references the .exe file.So when I publish the main project (ClickOnce), i get the following error:
Application validation did not succeed. Unable to continue. In the log file, under Error Details, it says
System.Deployment.Application.InvalidDeploymentException (RefDefValidation)
- Reference in the manifest does not match the identity of the download assembly Project2.exe
- Source: System.Deployment
How can I include this second project? Should I publish it, then reference the published files? What do i reference? The .application file?Is there a way to just include this second project, so when I do publish the main project, the second one just goes along with it?
How do i make a code that unzips files and then move those files into another zip file?
View 2 RepliesThe situation: when i build my project (or publish) Visual Basic 2010 makes and exe and a couple ddl files. when i run the project with the .exe and the other files the program works perfectly.
My problem: I want to share it with friends and it is just a verry little program ( a n internet radio) so i want it to be 1 .exe with out any other instalation needed so i can easly share it to anyone who wants it. when i make an even smaller program and Debud->build it, it is only 1 exe and no instalation needed. so is there a way to make my program to 1 exe only?
I had a working WCF published to IIS on my server. Recently I created another, self-hosting WCF (windows service) and added a reference to it from my WCF on IIS. Like this:
ASP --> WCF (in IIS) --> WCF (as win service)
Now, I can't seem to add a reference to my first WCF in my ASP app. So I've got this:
ASP XXX WCF (in IIS) --> WCF (as win service)
Here's the service model from the WCF in IIS. I'm publishing to http://localhost/LetterWriterASP/
<?xml version="1.0"?>

when i publish an app in vb.net it creates some files: application files directory, app.application, and setup.exe i am going to be distributing this application to people who can barely use a computer, so i need to bundle everything in one, self-extractable package.
View 1 RepliesIn my current program, I'm calling some EXEs by just clicking on a button (so basically an all-in-one tool). (I'm using VS 2010)Question is: when I publish my project, you get of course a setup which you have to install. I'd rather have it be an EXE you can just launch.

View 19 RepliesI'm working with Visual Basic 2008 Express. My application opens with the Terms screen, a form that asks the user to declare his acceptance of certain terms and conditions or to decline. If he accepts, the app opens the main screen, giving him access to all the app's facilities. If he declines, the app gives him a message and then closes. Whether he chooses to accept or decline, the app puts his decision in My.Settings so that it can be used next time the app is opened. In this way he is presented with the Terms screen on the next opening if he declined on the last run. But if he accepted on the last run, he is presented with the main screen on his next opening.
All works fine when I do a debug run. But when I build and publish the app onto my desktop it opens with the Main screen instead of the Terms screen.
why it works on F5 but not after publishing?

I am using Web Application Deployment for publishing on IIS. At first I have converted my website to a web application. My application compiles and build fine on my VS2005. But when I try to run it via CC.net. It comes up with a 100's of errors. Following is the list of someof the errors that keep repating in the same file.
errorBC30284: function 'GetCannotChangeMessage' cannot be declared 'Overrides' because it does not override a function in a base class.errorBC30451: Name 'GetAndChangesCanBePerformed' is not declared.errorBC30456: 'GetStatusMessage' is not a member of 'Object'.
why my build is failing with these errors. As functions are overridable in base class and also names declared
Ugh, missed the g on "Changing".. I'm working on a program that needs to be edited outside of the program. I won't go into a bunch of specifics. Basically, I have a 4 buttons and a .txt file. I want to set ti up so the user can change the word in a line so that it will change the button's text. That's the first part I'd like to knock out.
View 3 RepliesI've just completed my first VB.Net program and I want to publish it as a stand-alone program. When I use the "Publish" function from the Project menu, it creates an installation program that is required to complete before I can use the program freely. Is it possible to just make a program that will run without needing to "install" it?
View 6 RepliesI have a running program currently installed in my server, this program is running 24hrs a day. Now I did some enhancements on this program and tried to publish it. My publishing is successful but when I click the setup.exe Im have error message: "Critical error during application's main start up procedure. Description: Required processing files missing." I tried to deploy it also on my server but the same problem so I copied back the original for the program to keep on running. Attached Images error_when_setup.jpg (19.1 KB, 38 views)
