Web Cam Program - Designed With Malicious Intent?

Jun 6, 2012

I found a VB WebCam program from Africa on this site [url]

However one of the instructions is to "add a reference to WebcamControl.dll ". I've researched that .dll and it appears to be able to "Silently record users' sensitive personal information, identity details and business files, make traces of the users' online activities and browser habits and then transmit them to insecure remote servers".

I haven't downloaded this .dll or found a location to download it. Am I correct in assuming this program was designed with malicious intent?

Game Programming :: Program Is Designed To Generate A Random Hand Of Cards Out Of Our List?

Aug 19, 2008

Below is the code that we have been working on. We have bolded the parts which we are unsure about - they are producing errors. (its near the bottom)The program is designed to generate a random hand of cards out of our list of them. This program is a smaller version of what we hope to have in the full one - ie. It tries to get a random hand of 3 cards out of a possible 5.

The part we are having errors with is getting the images to display on each of the 3 'picturebox' objects using a loop (so we don't have to type each picturebox individually).

Writing Binary To File With Intent Of Unreadability

May 25, 2011

I am working on a program that creates a "license" file. This file is expected to be binary, containing a name, today's date, a warning date, an expiration date, and a preference of Metric or Imperial units of measurement, and essentially authorizes programs to work until the expiration date is reached, before which the warning date notifies the user that the license will expire. For this functionality to be fully utilized, the dates must not be able to be easily edited so as to prevent people from setting the date to whatever they want and keeping the program. What I have now writes each field from a String or Integer into whatever the BinaryWriter class deems should be written when I use its "write" method.I have been experimenting with the difference between Big and Little Endian encoding, which is selectable in the form.

If the entered name has no spaces, the file looks a bit unreadable, but not enough. With Big Endian, most of the Expiration Date is still showing; with Little Endian, the other two dates are mostly visible. However, using spaces in the entered name changes the format of the outputted text quite a bit, making all characters deliminated by a space, and therefore incredibly easy to change. My apologies that I cannot actually show you what the files look like.Is there a better/more accepted way of storing this data?I would like the license files to work with existing FORTRAN programs, of which read unformatted files in the general structure I've detailed, but reverse-engineering this sounds a bit difficult from what I've read and my employer has offered to rewrite the FORTRAN files to accept this new license creation program if need be.

Capture Keyboard Events With The Intent Of Preventing Users From Being Able To Hit Ctrl + Alt + Del

Jun 28, 2005

I am trying to find a way to capture keyboard events with the intent of preventing users from being able to hit Ctrl + Alt + Del while my application is running. I've spent several hours poking around looking for inspiration but only finding unclear and half-baked examples. As such, I was thrilled to stumble across the article: Managing Low-Level Keyboard Hooks in VB .NET written by Paul Kimmel [URL] This article is insightful, comprehensive, well-written, and I thought it was a huge help. One little problem though, the code that was provided did not work, (I knew it was too good to be true!).

Now, Mr. Kimmel seemed very knowledgable and I think that he probably tested his code, so quite likely the problem is something that I'm doing wrong seeing as I am a newbie. As the article suggests I cut and pasted his code into a module in my project (solution I guess is the proper term), and I call the HookKeyboard method from a button on a form, and Presto! Nothing happens. Stepping through this code I see that the second line in HookKeyboard:

On Creating A Simple Keylogger (non Malicious)

Feb 21, 2012

I'm suspicious my spouse is cheating. In the past few months he has systematically locked me out of all of his social media accounts shortly after getting a job with a group of female secretaries that travels for a week at a time. He has been dodging or non-communicative when confronted about this.url...

The only way to avoid interaction with antispyware is to create it myself.I understand that copying text or something into an open notepad session or the clipboard is out of the question; however I'm pretty sure that I could create a (fairly) simple script that does the following:[code]I know this is extremely inneficient but this is the most covert way i can think of, a simple wscript that runs on startup and creates these .txt files in an important looking place (windows/config/system/logs/win32 - example)

Avoid Adding The Development Of Malicious Code?

Dec 3, 2009

How to avoid aiding the development of malicious code I see an uncomfortable number of questions asking for info that could easily be put to malicious use. You can probe the OP to discover their intent, and you get replies that come in one of two flavors.

I have come to realize that trying to discover their intent is a waste time. Not because of the reactions, but their intent is really irrelevant to the matter at hand. Security. Posting code of any nature in a public forum that can be abused for malicious purposes is outright reckless. I wish could provide the help they request, but I don't know most of those programming tricks anyway. I would discourage anyone from publicly posting code that could be perverted no matter what the person asking for it claims. Their claims take a back seat to common sense. Anyone can read the post, people. Don't post anything that could become part of someone's malicious software in public.

Avoid Aiding Development Of Malicious Code?

Sep 14, 2009

A open conversation thread on this topic exists at[url]...

I would like to ask our community to take a brief moment to consider the outcome of answering a question before doing so. Sometimes a question can lead down a path to examples of how to create malware applications, and that is something we want to try to avoid. There are a few key things we can watch out for which would often indicates a question about malicious code intent.

First, watch for requests to do network communications that violate one or more RFC documents (e.g. How do I spoof my IP address?). Second, watch for requests on automating other websites - a quick check of the other site's AUP or TOU will typically tell you if the automation is permitted. Third, watch for requests that appear to want to harvest data from the web, without following the typical procedures for a web crawler (bot).[code]...

Developing A Computer Application Designed To Monitor The Network And CPU Statistics On A Computer?

Jan 29, 2009

I am developing a computer application designed to monitor the network and CPU statistics on a computer remotely. The monitored computer would have my program installed and the monitoring computer would display, in a form, the information being sent from the remote client. The application does not send any information regarding packets, user names, passwords, etc. It is solely meant for monitoring CPU performance and Network resources remotely.

What would be the best method to send this information over to my host machine?I am programing in Visual Studio 2008 on windows XP. The client machine is also XP. I know this sounds a little shady, but it is required for my little business (http://www.iquorum.net) to monitor what and when something happens on our machines when I and my employees are away.

On those same computers if I run the raw unpackaged program under Visual Studio Express, the system does not crash, and I can program devices repeatedly.

Command Line Strings - Make The Program Close If The -1 String Is Sent With The Program

If IncomingCommand.Substring(0, 2) = "-1" Then

form1.close()

End If

End If

I am trying to make the program close if the -1 string is sent with the program. See my installer allows for me to run certain programs before it actually installs, but it doesn't shut down copies of the program itself. So I have a next startup instance set to shut the program down if the -1 is received. But if the program is not running it starts up instead. This is not desired. form1.close doesn't work. e.cancel = true doesn't work, etc etc. What can I do to make the program not start during this instance.
