I upgraded a Visual Studio 2003 VB.NET project to Visual Studio 2005, and a "My Project" folder was automatically created and added to my project.What is the purpose of the auto generated folder "My Project"? This folder is empty, and I would love to get rid of this folder if it's not needed.
View 2 RepliesI have a VB.NET project in Visual Studio 2010 for an Excel Add-In.I use the "My" namespace,and in general it seems that the "My Project" folder contains configuration information about the project.My problem is that I need to change the name of this folder, because my version manager system won't accept spaces in file or folder names.Edit: There is a hacky way to do it, by renaming the folder and changing all references in the .vbproj file.However, the may work for a command line generation, but it won't work the next time the project will be opened in Visual Studio. The IDE will create a new "My Project" folder, and complain that it can't find the settings in it.

View 5 RepliesFor reasons that are beyond my control, I have three Projects. Projects A and B reference project C. Project A references project B so that it can open a large form in project B. I now need to open that large form from project C, but VB won't allow me to add a reference from C to B because that would create a circular dependency. I found a way around it, though. I created a Timer in A, and when I opened C from A, I passed in that timer. When the user performs a certain action, I enable the Timer from A, and this causes C to open B for me.

1- i add Project Setup Project for my Project for Visual Studio 2008 Deploy & setup Type Projects and make it with output option and detect dependices
2- i try make it with Setup Factory 8.2.1
3- i try with MSI Factory 2.0
4 i try with Setup Factory 6.0
and after making installer copying it to my test virtual Machine or my friend lap and install it i get this error when try to run my application :

I am using Visual Studio 2008 Setup project. I need to copy one folder and the sub folders into the program files but when I tried to copy or add the folder to "Application Folder" in File System editor, I am able to add only files and not folders.

View 4 RepliesI have copied a folder with a project renaming the folder. I have then browsed and opened the project in the VB.Net 2005 IDE. I have then renamed the Assembly, root namespace, solution and project, searched and replaced all instances of original name, cleaned, rebuilt, tried deleting the bin and obj folders and rebuilt. But every time I run the newly named exe, when I try and start the original exe along side it nothing happens. it still thinks that the old exe is the same process? Both solutions are single instance applications. Why does it still think they are the same. I want the renamed copy to have slightly different functionality to cater for a different type of user but can't get both exe's to run at the same time which some users need. I can't see anywhere I have not changed the name for the new version.

The problem is that the code of project is opening like Form1.vb but the actual Form in Form1.Designer.vb is not opening in that computer. With Visual Studio - 2008. I publish to my server. I have problem with the ClickOne, I cant find a way to include my DB connection and resources folder included in my project. It update correctly, but it does not include my resource folder a database connection. Maybe something with the rights to connect to the DB. Can can also see that every time I update my application, it make a new folder but it do not input my folders.

I am developing a fairly complex vb.net program with numerous forms, and custom classes, modules, etc. I want to start reorganizing the various folders for components of the program and have a few stupid questions.For one, I find that I cannot take a working executable and move it to a different folder on the same machine and have it work. My program drives numerous slave applications and I would like to group just the executables in a common folder. Do I need to carry additional files along with them to make them 'portable' on my own machine? I haven't discovered how to copy or move an existing project to a new folder. Things seem to blow up because of internal project references etc. Is there some way of copying or duplicating a working project without problems resulting?

My project is getting rather unweildy (over 30 classes) and I think it would be beneficial to store for example data structure classes in a folder "ds" and user controls in a folder "uc". Is this OK? Will it affect the way I reference the classes? Are the folders simply for my own use and structure or do they actually have some kind of impact on my project as a whole?
PS in case you are confused, I am referring to the structure shown in the "Solution Explorer". Sorry if this is a dumb question or not clear, but I have never worked on a large project like this before.
I am trying to work on a service where I need to export a report into a folder under the service project and email it to the user. The delete the report when complete. The issue I am having is I need to know how to access a folder under the project. I know you can use System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory to get into the bin where the excuting file is but I want to get to a folder is this possible? If not is there a way of creating the folder under the bin directory and accessing it. I can manually create a folder under the bin but didnt really want to do that.
