Where Is "Inherits <baseclass>" In An Interop UserControl
Jan 6, 2010
I'm looking at the Interop UserControl mechanism that's part of the "Interop Forms Toolkit" version 2.0. (This you to build a .Net UserControl that can be published as a COM object for use on VB6 forms.)
I've started a new project using the "VB6 Interop UserControl" template, and what I see is a class definition that looks like this:
<ComClass(InteropUserControl.ClassId, InteropUserControl.InterfaceId,
InteropUserControl.EventsId)> _
Public Class InteropUserControl
[Code]....
without any "Inherits" statement. But if I look in the Class Browser, I can see that this class (not surprisingly) inherits from the WinForms UserControl class. How can it be that the "Inherits UserControl" piece of the class declaration isn't visible anywhere?
Question 634559 also shows an InteropUserControl class declaration without any "inherits UserControl" statement. I must be missing something simple from my VB.Net knowledge. (I do most of my .Net work in C#.)

How can I create a generic constructor? (ie. BaseClass.FromXml(<param>). I'm not sure how to describe this but I'm trying to create a base class that contains a shared (factory) function called FromXml. I want this function to instantiate an object of the proper type and then fill it via an XmlDocument.
For example, let's say I have something like this: [Code]
I'd like to be able to do something like this:
Dim myObject As CustomObject = CustomObject.FromXml(source)
Is this possible?

I have a Windows Form frmMain() holding seven more-or-less unrelated UserControls, ucFlopsy", "ucMopsy", "ucCottontail", etc...I say "more-or-less" because each of the seven UC has three similar public read/write properties:
IsLocked (a boolean indicating if the following two properties are "Locked")
IsLockedID (if IsLocked=True then IsLockedID is an integer)
IsLockedName (if IsLocked=True then IsLockedName is a string)

I have a Windows Form that contains a custom control container as a UserControl. For the sake of this question, this custom control container is called Dashboard. This container called Dashboard contains numerous other controls depending on their permissions. I need to raise events that are contained on these controls through the Dashboard control and over to the Windows Form.
How can I bubble up the event? I'm using VB.NET for this project, but can convert C# into VB.NET.Also, to complicate matters, the main Windows Form is a VB6 project. So, I'm using the InteropFormsToolkit to accomplish this.

I have two UserControls on a MasterPage. DataEntryUC contains several TextBoxes and DropDownList. NavSaveUC contains navigation buttons. When the user clicks on a navigation button, I will be saving the data entered into DataEntryUC from the NavSaveUC UserControl.
I have a couple of tables in my DB that contain stored procedure names, control names, control types, SqlDbTypes, etc.... that correlate with DataEntryUC.
How do I reference a text box that is on DataEntryUC from NavSaveUC?
I have been working on the following code from NavSaveUC with no luck.
Dim MyControlName = "txtFirstName"
Dim MyControlType = "TextBox"
Dim MyStringValue as String

I have a usercontrol that has a main form and calls another form within the usercontrol to get some data from a database that allows the user to select some items from a CheckedListBox control on the sub form. I want to pass the selected items from the CheckedListBox back to the main form and display the results there. I have a public property called DBList of type List(of String) on the main user control. If I create a reference to the usercontrol form the second form within the usercontrol I get a new instance of a user control. All I want to do is set the property on the usercontrol and close the secondary form. How do I reference the usercontrol from the form within the usercontrol?
Code in UserControl:
Public Property DBItems() As List(Of String)
Get
Return DBItems

I'm translating from C# to vb.net and this flags as an error: Classes can only inherit from other classes.
on this 3rd line:
Namespace Microsoft.Expression.Web.AddIn
Public MustInherit Class DocumentEventHandler
Inherits HTMLDocumentEvents
Implements IDisposable
Any idea where this class is? Do I need to import
This is the whole code:
' Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
'
' Description:
' AddInDocEvent handler - Subclassed from DocumentEventHandler with
' the document events the add-in cares about overridden
[CODE]...
I'm not understanding why its not seeing any of the objects or methods under Microsoft.Expression.Web.Interop.Designer ?

I think I remember reading somewhere that it was possible to assign items to a variable if the item inherited from a base class, but I can't remember how.
I want to have a class that gets properties set and one of the properties is an error code property. I want to assign any exceptions that occur to the property, but it could be any type of exception. I remember that all exceptions inherit from the Exception class.
How can I assign an exception to a property based on the class it inherits from?

inherit from two classes in VB.net?We are developing Custom User Controls that inherits from say System.Web.UI.WebControls.Label. We are planning on implementing a bunch of these controls but they will share mostly the same additional properties. We are hopeful about centralising these properties.I have looked into interfaces but it seems they only 'contract' properties you need to implement.

I'm extending the ComboBox class in VB.NET and I'm running into a problem prepopulating the collection. I try to do so by using Me.Items.Add() calls in the New() sub. However, once I place the control on a form in the form designer, Visual Studio automatically adds those items to the collection in form designer, then they are added again at runtime. How can I make them only added once?

I want to create a User-Control that inherits the functionality of a TabContol.
I begin by starting a new project of the type Windows Form Control Library. Next I place a TabControl on the UserControl designer surface and Dock the TabContol to Fill the UserControl.
I go to the code editor for the UserControl and enter the following line of code.
Inherits System.Windows.Form.TabControl
Then I run the program and get an error. Intellisence recommends that I use one of two recomendation. When I accept the recommendation I and try to run the program the problems esculate.
The design-surface is no longer accessable.
I try to comment out the problem lines of code in the UserControl1.Designer.VB file but that doesn't help.
How can I create a UserControl that Inherits the Properties of the TabControl so that the properties of the TabControl are visable in the Properties Window?

I have created 3 classes which inherits from(System.Collections.Specialized.NameObjectCollectionBase)
The first class "SQLCommandsCollection" stores "SQLCommands" in a collection.
The second class "SQLTableNamesCollection" stores "SQLCommandsCollection" objects in its collection. The Third class "SQLDBNamesCollection" stores "SQLTableNamesCollection" objects in its collection.
Ultimately I will sit with a "SQLDBNamesCollection" collection which contains all Table names and its respective SQLCommand objects.
I would like to store this "SQLDBNamesCollection" object in my.settings("QueryViewerQueriesPerTableNamePerDBName")
at runtime but I am unsure what this settings type should be.
I have tried system.oject but this does not seem to work as I get an "Unable to cast object of type 'System.String' to type 'Fusion.SQLTableNamesCollection'" exception when I try to retrieve from settings. See below code.

When I write the following statement in VB.Net (C# is my normal language), I get an "end of statement expected" referring to the "Implements" statement.
<Serializable()> _
<XmlSchemaProvider("EtgSchema")> _
Public Class SerializeableEntity(Of T As {Class, ISerializable, New}) _
Implements IXmlSerializable, ISerializable
...
End Class
The C# version that I'm trying to emulate is:
[Serializable]
[XmlSchemaProvider("MySchema")]
public class SerializableEntity<T> : IXmlSerializable, ISerializable where T : class, new()
{

I just discovered the joys of UserControl's and I was wondering if it is possible to populate the usercontrol with data from a database in the UserControl's Form.Load event instead of the form the userControl is placed on. I feel it would make using the control a lot easier if it just populated itself without anymore code.I tried it with a ListView but it gave me a bunch of errors, so I didn't know if it had to be done a certain way or if it was just one of those things that doesn't work no matter what.
