i am writing a library to take xinput from an xbox 360 controller and output it to a serial buswhenever i run the program it updates sporadically and does not compute properly i am trying to make it so that when the controller is in negative (ycontrol >0) it outputs 0-90 and when it is positive i get 90-180 i am also trying to make it so when the controller is moved in the x direction that the value of x is added to one side and subtracted from each other but is between 0 -180
For those who have experience, working with VB.NET, it's easier to use SlimDX or SDL? The tutorials for SlimDX are already written for .NET, but I've read that SDL it's a lot easier than DirectX itself.in my case, I just need 2D graphics.

Using visual studio 2010 on a PC running Windows XP SP3 (32bit) I am trying to read the output from a serial device but only get timed out error?If I open hyper terminal I can see the output, so the hardware and connections are good and the command to send data is working as well?When debugging I have no errors, when the program is run (in debugging mode) I get a timed out error from after the do loop (test=2) All I want to do is have my device output printed to TextBoxLockOut.Text? Note "comstring" grabs my com port the serial device is using - on this computer it is com4, it is a public string

How do I use XInput in VB.NET so I can use the Xbox 360 Controller's Rumble feature & get all the button presses, the only examples I found show C++ but I need to access the controller in my VB.NET application...I can't even figure out how to make a reference to XInput to try & start using it or if I need to download something first(if I don't already have it installed.)By what I see a version of XInput comes with windows already in Windows Vista, but I wouldn't know what .dll to look for, where it's located or what references to add or how to use the .dll, like what api's I can use when having added it to my application to use.
I'm learning the serial port programming. So, I study the code samples from MSDN - VB101SamplesBCL2 http:[url].....While ran the solution of "UsingTheSerialPort", It shows error: It highlights one sentence textBox2.Text = SerialPort1.ReadLine() -- Line 40 ,and says :

I am looking for a serial port component for .NET that overcomes the issues with the built-in Serial Port component related to sudden unplugging of USB-to-RS232 adapters, and suspension of the computer while the port is open. (Untrappable errors occurring after the the device is unplugged or the computer comes back after being suspended.)I have been using Richard Grier's solution, but I still have problems when resuming from suspend.Is there a 3rd party component that you would recommend? I have tried several, and each have their shortcomings. Ideally I'd like a drop-in replacement for the standard serial port, but I'll take whatever I can get.
Edit: It turns out that upgrading to .NET 4 and using the serial class works fine on XP, but does not work on Windows 7.
I added a serial port com1 to my vb.net form. I created a new class and wrote a method to open the com1 and created its object in the main form and called the method and its opening.THen i created another class wrote a method to write data to the com and same way created an object and called it but i am getting the error as port is closed. I am using an email verification program I have downloaded to test the validity of a given email address.I have setup a class in VB using Visual Studio 2010 with the required code that runs the check.I have then registered this as a COM so I can call it through VBA in Excel.In an excel workbook I have then created a module that calls the VB class. The excel module tests whether the email address typed in cell "A1" is valid or not. At the moment the VB class simply gives me a messagebox output saying "Success" or "Fail" which works fine.What I actually want though is for the "success" or "Fail" message to appear in cell "A2" next to the email address as opposed to the current messagebox output.

Also If the serial is already activated I want the application to reject that Serial and Count how many times they entered in a wrong serial.
I have a stand alone VB.Net 2005 application that uses a serial port that generally stays open while the application runs on a Windows XP system. In trying to bullet-proof the UI, I ran into a problem when the USB to Serial Converter normally used to provide the serial port is disconnected while the serial port is open. In trying to handle the resulting error when accessing the port, I find I cannot close the port.
When trying to do so, the error message says something like "unable to close the port. You may not have sufficient permissions." Reconnecting the USB/Serial Converter does not reactivate the port.

I have put this code in the global form Inherits System.Windows.Forms.Form. And then in the form that will inherit this from the global Inherits MenuStrip. "MenuStrip" is what the global form is called.
