I am current using VS2008 to write a little app to transmit hex data via the serial port to the target device and receive back data from it and display that on a text box.
The problem i am facing is receiving "read" data "hex" back from the serial port and displaying it. I am able to send data to the target system without any problem. For example, if i send this command "&H10, &H0, &H1, &H7E, &HFF, &H49" The LEDs on the system blink 10 times and it works every time. If i send this command "&H10, &H0, &H0, &HFF, &HD" i should get 5E back and I use Realterm to verify the communication and it works great. When i use my VB app it fails, instead of getting back 5E.I get "&H35, &H45, &HD, &HA" on the buffer
Private Sub sendbutton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles sendbutton.Click
Dim send_Buffer() As Byte = {&H10, &H0, &H0, &HFF, &HD}

I am looking for logic that converts an incorrect user input to a correct integer input. For example, a user might mistakenly type in letters within an integer input and the logic changes that input to the correct form(integer).

I want to add a counter for my program that basically counts the times I answered correctly and incorrectly. When a user adds or subtracts correctly the correct label shows 1 and when a user correctly answers again the correct label should show 2. It just adds and adds until the program is running. Same goes for the incorrect label.

i am creating a quiz which would be 20 questions for software design students and may use alot of code.my first problem is the score for the test, i know a friend of mine can add up the score but he cant move onto the next thread until you have got the question correct which is sort of cheating, i want to know how you create a variable and make that variable stay in all the forms and add up the score of correct and incorrect answers and come up with a final score for the user in the end.

I am using Visual Basic express to create a serial interface to a multi-room audio controller. I have started by creating a form that can connect to the controller and I can receive data from the Controller and display Zone status, volume etc in corresponding texts box thaks to help from Stanav and Tassa in my previous thread.
My next problem is to do with receiving lots of data from the serial port and my application getting out of sync. This is mainly caused by turning the volum control as each time it is turned a little bit the controller sends out the new status of the Zone being effected
eg
****Turning Volume knob on Zone 1***
Status returned from Controller:
#Z01PWRON,SRC3,VOL05<CR>

OR what would be the easiest way to have serials recognised?

CODE:
That code works to read the entry data and to recognise the correct data, and the incorrect. However, even if entry is correct, the error msgbox will appear (x times of how many records there are in file), despite being navigated to the menu. Anyway that the Else isn't triggered when data is correct. Also for it to appear just one instead of (x times of how many records there are in file.)

I made my program and now I just need to add in the serial and trial part of the application. I know the application must connect to the host and go to a txtfile. How would i do the trial and serial. Also If the serial is already activated I want the application to reject that Serial and Count how many times they entered in a wrong serial.

I am trying to release my program now and I have a quick (hopefully quick) question concerning serial numbers. I want to be able to store the trial serial number so if the user uninstalls and reinstalls they won't get another evaluation period free of charge. My concern is that some crafty person will simply move the database files in and out of those installs and keep going indefinately. Although I have some protections built into the database itself in case the program runs out, I just want one extra layer of protection. Is there a way to store the serial number in the registry when entered and check for that entry whenever the program is installed using Windows Installer 3.1?

I have a stand alone VB.Net 2005 application that uses a serial port that generally stays open while the application runs on a Windows XP system. In trying to bullet-proof the UI, I ran into a problem when the USB to Serial Converter normally used to provide the serial port is disconnected while the serial port is open. In trying to handle the resulting error when accessing the port, I find I cannot close the port.
When trying to do so, the error message says something like "unable to close the port. You may not have sufficient permissions." Reconnecting the USB/Serial Converter does not reactivate the port.

I'm fairly new to Visual Basic (VB), but I've already got running code to access all my serial port. The problem is I want to load multiple serial ports into an array and loop through them in my functions. The program allows me to create ports(), but fails when I try to populate it.
Dim ports As IO.Ports.SerialPorts()
ports(0) = SerialPort1
Where SerialPort1 is an object I draged from the Visual Studio toolbox.

Trying to make a serial connection from a windows app in vb.net to a com port through pc.also, can i make a separate listener windows app in vb.net that has its own virtual com port (for testing).the function of this connection is to simply pass variable states through the serial port on the pc to a microcontroller, which will interperate the code and perform actions based on the variable states.is there an easy way to implement serial port data communication in vb.net?
