Feb 17, 2012
So i have a DB with 3 tables. User Table with U_ID and U_Name, Class with C_ID, and C_Name and User_Class Table with U_ID and C_ID. Foreign keys are set.I want to display the classes associated with the selected user. The user is identified by their name. I am trying to call a SELECT query (with parameters) in Access from VB.Net 2008. I am able to call queries without parameters using the code below. The problems are (1) how to apply the parameters to procName and (2) how to get a dataset returned. I have looked around the net for hours and have found some examples. However, they are all for ms access action (update, delete, etc) queries using ExecuteNonQuery which does not return a dataset.

I am using VB.Net 2010 and calling a stored procedure with a dataset to get values in a table plus "created" values.
The values for the "created" values do not come across from the stored procedure. They all show as zero in the IDE and False for the variables. I know I am getting the record because the first five values come across from the stored procedure into the variables correctly.
When I step through a VB6 program using ADO the values are pulled across from the stored procedure.
The problem seems to be in the interface between a dataset and "created" fields in a stored procedure.[code]...

I am attempting to create a tier application. Im wondering which approach would be better to take on. Should i have stored procedures on the database and then call these from my Data Access Layer (this is when you right click your dataset and add a table adapter, select existing stored procedures or create the entire query in my Dataset under TableAdapter?
My reason for asking is because my Stored procedures are created to insert and update in one command (by using an If statement), but saw the other approach recently. Any reason for one over the other?

I get the same error message regardless of wetheror or not the second output parameter is enabled.3709 The connection cannot be used to perform this operation. It is either closed or invalid in this context.how to return a recordset from Oracle to VB6?

things look good till I reach the Bind Commands to Existing Stored procedures page of the wizard and I select my target spproc (rpt_IPR_...) then I hit the finish button and see the message: invalid object name '#TmpResults' now the dataset seems to setup correctly but was wondering why we are getting this message and should I be concerned. The same proc in Access had no issues. [Code]
Because we where not seeing info on the spproc parms we began to suspect that the query made by the IDE to get metadata was failing and that indeed is the case. (we also switch to non-production database to reproduce the issue)after some great SQL debugging from Kevin Currier here at Mindsolve the problem seems to be the SET FMTONLY OFF; SET FMTONLY ON; that the framework is using to get metadata info for the [Code]

In a DataSetIf I right-click on a TablesetAdd QueryCreate New Stored Procedure. The creation will fail for me using a SQL 2008 database. "There was a Problem with the UPDATE stored procedure. The stored procedure was not created."If I "Preview the SQL Script..." copy it and run it manually it fails because it is not putting brackets around my user name. "CREATE PROCEDURE SDSDBLUESKY.UpdateQuery" Fails"CREATE PROCEDURE [SDSDBLUESKY].UpdateQuery" WorksThis is a work around because it links to this if I do manually when it gives me the preview option, and don't rewrite it. But is there some setting change in VS2005 to get this to work correctly in the first place?

I've been using the following sub in my control that I'm creating to let me modify the pixels in a bitmap faster:
Protected Sub LockForMemory()
idata = ime.LockBits(New Rectangle(0, 0, ime.Width, ime.Height), ImageLockMode.WriteOnly, ime.PixelFormat)
ipoint = idata.Scan0[code]....
This doesn't seem to work right, however.

I have to design a project for my IT course at college using Visual Basic. The task is to create a program which allows the user to enter the height of a room plus the width of the walls as well as the paint which costs different prices. I have managed to get the program to work out the cost of painting each wall, but I cannot get another label to show the price for painting a full room, when the result is basically adding up the cost of painting all of the walls. how to add up multiple values displayed in labels?

This may not be the place to ask this, if not, you can move this post to the SQL forum but I have an application that I'm building which pulls dates from a database. The start value is stored as payPeriodStart date and I add 7 days to get the end date. What I need to know is, is it possible to store those values and pass them to a Stored Procedure? Currently my stored procedures have "static" dates in them ie:
where dateadd (n, Timestamp, '12/31/1899') - ([LoggedIn]/1000)/60/1440+1 Between '10/3/2010' and '10/10/2010'
and I'd like those values to be
Between payPeriodStartDate and payPeriodEndDate.

I have a form that has 1 text box and has 2 queries that locate the data. One is by customer ID and the other is by customer last name. They both work but when the code works and the user enters a customer ID and the query locates it then enters a customer last name it also locates it. If the user enters the same customer id again the query seems to fail. This is why I'm sure I need to add some kind of code to reset the Dataset.
Here's the code in the load sub procedure:
EditBoxSearch.Focus()
' Start out clean.

I am working on a Tag system for a news page designed in ASP.NET. For the system I require a TagExists method to check for tags within the database. The stored procedure I have written is below.
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[Tags_TagExists](
@Tag varchar(50))
AS
BEGIN
[code]....
I have tried switching the procedure to return 0 if the tag exists and 1 if it does not and it still returns 0 despite the exact same testing conditions. I have also returned the actual select query and it has complained of the Tag "news" (my test item) not being an int on execution showing the select itself is definitely properly formed.
