I am implementing a chat client in an application. Conversation windows are tabbed and I have to alert the user for new messages. My temporary solution was like this:
There is a timer with 500ms interval ( always running ).
For Each t In SuperTabControl3.Tabs
If TypeOf t Is SuperTabItem Then
If t.Tag = "1" Then
[Code]....
Will this cause performance issues? I have no possibility to try on an older computer but they will use this application on slow pc's.
here I am again I have written a small class called 'Messages' that holds the user messages. The case is that I am not being able to import it. Here it is:
I am writing a program that has to print an alert message in a textbox if the user inputs invalid data. Invalid data would be a negative number. The textbox is the same textbox as the result would be in provided they input valid data. Here is what I have but it will not print the alert.
i'm currently using VB.net 2005 with an Oracle 10g db.1. Alert the Admin by displaying on the main page a list of users who are due for re-certification if there are any. - I've managed to do this except my date calculation for the alert is wrong. When a user is certified say on 25-06-2010, they will be up for re-certification in 25-06-2011. I need my program to start alerting the Admin a MONTH before the user is due for re-certification. So basically start the alert on 25-05-2011.Currently this is my logic in VB.
Reason = Get value in Reason field (If this field is not empty, then don't raise alert for this record) Renewal = Get the re-certification date Sysdate = Get current system date
[code]...
Alert the Admin via email - I've managed to create an email (stored procedure in Oracle) that contains the skeleton. I say skeleton because althought the mail executes fine, I've not managed yet to include the list of users due from the db. I created a Curser and dumped my results in there, but not sure what to do after that.
i want to allow user to select or find access database file when the software is executed/opened for the first time. after user selects the file and as he clicks open the software shows the full path of the file and then stores it with the provider and datasource in a txt file for future use.
I have created an application which asks the user to enter password to login. Now how can i inform the user(if his caps button is on) that his caps button is on while he is entering his password?
I have a MaskedTextbox which takes Us Phone numbers. Using The MaskedTextBox ensures the user can enter only numbers and the number gets formatted right.
Here is the problem I am having: How do I add an error message if the box is left empty? I am not trying to validate the number, just need a way to add: "You forgot to enter a number." Can I add this to a MaskedTextBox?
How do I add a message box or alert to a MaskTextbox if the user hit submit without entering numbers?
I need to create a notification system for my application that will alert the user once new items have been sent to their queue, which is made of up database entries. The latter part of this question may need to be asked in the database forum, but I guess we'll figure that out First, since I haven't created anything like this before, I need some direction on what the best possible solution would be.The notification system should always be running and work independently of the main app. With this requirement, I thought a Windows Service would be best.
The notification itself will just be a quick form that alerts the user. I'm sure most of that will be fairly easy to create. The only issue I'm wondering about is how to constantly check the database and determine a new record has been inserted.Would a windows service have a timer or something that allows me to constantly check? If it does, how would I determine a new record has been inserted?
I want to do is make a notification system, kind of like aim were a new little box will show up to alert the user of a couple different things.
This is how far i have gotten :
Dim popups As ArrayList
Public Sub newEvent(ByVal title As String, ByVal description As String) popups.Add(New Form())
[CODE].........
I use an arraylist because i dont know how many messages will come around the same time, but i could switch to an array if i must. this is the form that i made as kind of a template :
[CODE]..........
Its just got a couple text boxes for now. how can i make these new forms every time i have a new message to display and the clean up after them when they are done.
I was just wondering if there was a way with, using VB.net, be able to create a program to detect when a message is received in Windows Live Messenger, and alert the user?Essentially, MSN is minimized in background and our program, Program A, is also running in backgroung.Friend X sends us a message, the MSN icon blinks as usualy, but also a window pops up and shows the name of the user and the message.I was just wondering if there was a way to connect to MSN in some fom to be able to do this?
i have an admin master page where i want to place a label which i can control with two functions (setErrorMessage and setSuccessMessage) both functions assign strings to label's text property and change CssClass property according to function type.
I want to use these functions from nested pages while the control remains centralized on master page so i can return to form in case of error so user could edit wrong input.
This is for a game i've been working on in C# & XNA. I'm not asking for code however, so language doesn't matter. I've got a console. I want to store up to the last 5 messages sent so the user can scroll through them. Additionally, I want to store whatever their message was if they hit up to go through the messages, so if they hit down again they have it back. If they send a message without going back to that, it's lost. I'm not really sure what a good implementation for this might be. I'm thinking a string array where the last value gets deleted each time a message is sent, and a separate string for the current message.
What is the best way to handle a function that might occasional fail to evaluate, but even when it does fail does not require a halt of the parent routine, though sometimes might require an explanation to the user?I have such a function, deep in my code, that returns a number. Codingwise, the simplest approach would be to make the function nullable, and return null when it can't evaluate. That way the calling routine can continue while also knowing the function failed to return a number.
However, depending upon the circumstances, sometimes I want to display the reason for the fail to the user so they know what to fix. Obviously just returning null isn't enough information. Should I be raising messages inside the function itself as it evaluates for anonymous listeners to catch, to be displayed if desired?(For those rightfully pointing out that logic functions shouldn't be responsible for creating user messages, I didn't mean to imply the function generates the full text message, just somehow transmits the reason for the problem so that the UI could later parse that into a message)
The other option I suppose would be throw exceptions inside the function if it can't evaluate, then catch and interpret to user messages if desired. However, as stated the inability to evaluate typically does not signify a halt to the routine, and now I'd have to put a Try...Catch block around the function call everytime I use it.
I need help for error messages for senerio like.... If i onli allow user to enter only numeric. And if i onli allow user to enter text start with "DM"...
I have an app that I'm using Form2 to display informaitonal messages without having the user to press the OK button. I DIM form2 as a new form as a global and then add a lable to it on the fly and then control it's appearance with a timer. This all works great providing the main form is being displayed however I can't make Form2 show up if the main form is minimized or hidden. I can get around this a bit by keeping the main form maximized but change it's Opacity to zero but once I do that I have no idea how to return the Opacity back to normal when I do want to see the form. Anyone have any ideas on how to make Form2 display if the main from is minimzed or how to control the Opacity of the main form so I can return things to normal? I was thinking that there might be something I could do with hovering over or clicking on the icon in the taskbar but I don't know what that event might be.
I want to use spy++ or Winspector But from what i Read they Dont work on windows 7 64bit Correct ? Im trying to read WM_COMMAND Messages from a App.And whenever i Select 'Log Messages' And find the windows etc.Nothing show's up. Is there a alternative ?
create a message box that stores my user name, message, and post datetime into the database as messages are sent. Soon came to realise, what if the user changed his name? So I decided to use the user id (icn) to identify the message poster instead. However, my chunk of codes keep giving me the same error. Says that there are no rows in the dataset.
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load Dim name As String Dim icn As String Dim message As String

i want to replace the asp.net MsgBox with javascript alert...how can i do that? the commented out lines are the once i have already tried out...the asp.net MsgBox does not work on client side after publishing the website.
My problem is, I have set the parameter to be 150 in the database. and the alert triggered should refer to the parameter value. if the calculation result exceeds the parameter value, it will turn the box to red colour. however, i notice that it only compares the first three number. for example, if the calculation result is 1778.99 it will turn the box red because its first three digit is more than 150. but if the calculation result is 10234.90, it does not trigger the alert. i assume it only takes the first three digit.
Here is the code for this part;
Dim total1 As Label = CType(e.Item.FindControl("total1"), Label) total1.Text = e.Item.DataItem("inventories").ToString * 365 / e.Item.DataItem("operating_cost").ToString
I've got an interesting situation. Norton Anti-Virus, on a friend's computer, has flagged my program as a virus and I have no idea why. I'll post the code here so maybe someone can tell me why?
[code]...
Norton is claiming it is a WS.Reputation 1, what ever that is? (I had to remove the main page coding because it made the post too long and they wouldn't allow that many words.)
I'm currently making a billing system and I would like to know how I can set a reminder/ alert date? I have data that consists of names of the payee and the outstanding amount of the particular payee. Is there a way that I can send a reminder to myself on the outstanding amount after 5 days later once the invoice is generated.
For example, Company ABC purchased products from me on credit. Invoice is created on the day of purchase and reminder would prompt to remind me about the outstanding payment of Company ABC after 5 days.
