View 1 RepliesThis code is for 2008, 2010 and later versions of VB.Net as it uses an extension method.Please note: If you are using an earlier version ( or you do not like extension methods ) please see the next post.Here is the code I posted on Monday April 30th, 2012.>>Now you can specify the startRadius to be

Once the counter reaches its maximum value, and the last picture is displayed, the counter should be reset to zero or one depending on how the first image file has been name. Also a static counter variable should be incremented in the time routine. what I have so far -- I know what I have to do; however, I just do not know how to code this properly.. Right now I have this going thru a button procedure but it needs to go through a timer.

I will try to explain what I need.Let's say that I have a class like this:

Consider a MyForm class that contains a shadowed implementation of Show(). It also contains a CreateForm() method, which accepts an instance of the form and calls the shadowed sub:

I have a project that has some VB code in it that I'm not allowed to convert to C#. I work in C# and not very good at VB, but I am needing to modify that VB code to use some C# methods I created.
For example:
C#:
Code:
using MGCIS2.Reporting;
using CrystalDecisions.Shared;
[code]....
At this line in the VB code (Dim crv As New Tax.Reports.CrystalReportViewer(_rdbc)) it is giving me an error:Too many arguments to 'Public Sub New()'
I've bee working on a project for quite some time now, and I get tired of scrolling all the way to where I am going to implement new code. I use #Region a lot, but this does not help me within methods, so what I'm wondering is, is there any way to collapse text within methods, or do I have to keep scrolling?

I have a couple of shared methods in my app which are intended to be used with ObjectDataSource's (and other reflection based objects). They handle a lot of automatic parameter checking, filtering, etc. They are, however, all one time use methods (they rebuild everything on every call). It would be much better for someone writing code directly to call the instance methods so that all the filtering, etc, is stored between calls.Is there an attribute I can add to my methods to indicate this? The best would be if it would prevent the method from being called without reflection. Second best would be to issue a warning that the method is being used wrong.[code]
View 1 RepliesThis is a general question about Object Orientation and specifically overloading functions in .NET (or any other framework or language). I am looking at an application that has a lot of duplicate code. For example, have a look at the following functions: [code] I would of thought that best pratice would be to put: //code that is specifically relevant to Test1 variable in a separate function as it is common in both functions.

I'm refactoring VB.NET code where methods routinely run five hundred lines and the references are so tightly coupled that the code defies simple refactoring such as method extraction. And that's why I thought I would try regions within a method body. I just wanted to organize the code for the short term. But the IDE didn't let me (resulted in a compiler error.) I'm just curious as to why? Seems like code regions shouldn't impact the compiler, intellisense etc. Am I missing something? (Still using VS 2005 btw.)
Interesting: This seems to be language specific. It's OK in C# (I didn't check that initially) but not in VB.NET.
public module MyModule
Sub RunSnippet()
dim a as A = new A (Int32.MaxValue )
[code]....
that gets a compiler error but the C# version is ok.
I am trying to call back to a code behind method using Javascript and it seems like the only way to do so is using the Page.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock() don't need to return any data back to the calling javascript function.
View 1 RepliesIn debug mode I get into a line that evaluates to false because the expression cannot be evaluated because of "Cannot evaluate expression because the code of the current method is optimized." Program does not assert or error out. If Item.Length then . . . (Here when I hover the mouse it displays "Cannot evaluate expression because the code of the current method is optimized"). What interesting is that it only occurs in one of .vb files.BTW, I'm programming in Compact Framework.
View 4 RepliesWhen editing a code module, any methods marked as Obsolete do not (by design) show up in the top-right hand declration drop-down. (I've rasied this as a problem on another thread since it's causing me and other colegues a head-ache. Can I propose a VS setting to include obsolte methods would be a simple and useful enhancment.)

I have been getting sometimes with SOME libraries (be it included in the framework or not).[code]I'd expect the func.Call() to return an exception if something is up, or do anything to error out, but here it just murders my method which returns instantly! The same stuff here is also in a loop, which doesn't get any more iterations, it just stops executing this function and continues running the program.

View 3 RepliesI have to generate an XML file from several database tables. I could use the WriteXml method of the DataSet to do it, but the database tables are really huge and I can't add all those tables in the DataSet at the same time or it may cause a problem because of the big amount of memory used. Then I decided to use the DataTable's WriteXml method and save table after table, but the the generated file only stores the information of the last DataTable.WriteXml's call. How can I preserve the previous XML data when adding all that information?
View 4 RepliesI've got an app which uses a background worker to copy files. It works fine but some files are quite large and it "appears" as though the app isn't doing anything. Is there an alternative to the File.Copy method of copying files so I can report on the progress of individual file copies, like the percentage complete?

Im struggling on how to open an excel workbook without one of two problems.
1. After the first workbook is opened and I close the workbook, if another is opened the worksheet area is "transparent", as in, you can see the desktop or any open app behind excel.
2. Closing excel and opening another workbook after X times (4+?) via the vb.net app I use causes the computer to reboot.
I am stuck thinking it is the method used to open excel within the app.The code below has two methods, both produce the same affect. One method is blocked (makes it easy to test either one).[code]I have two buttons that open workbooks, both have identical code less the workbook requirements.Is there a better or best method to use for opening excel workbooks from vb.net?
