Asp.net - Different Kinds Of Cells In The Same Column?

I need to render a datagrid with different kinds of cells in the same column. For example, I have a datagrid with a column "name" and a colmun "value". Depending on the "type" of my record, I would have different cells in the column "value" like a combobox or a simple textfield. and I don't really see how to do that programmatically... I don't know if the datagrid is the best choice. I'm using asp.net/vb.net with framework 3.5
I have a DataGridView binded to a DataSet that I created using the Visual Studio Data Source Configuration Wizard. Everything works good except for one problem.I have two columns, Modified_By and Date_Modified that should be inserted or updated as the user and the current date, respectively. So every row in the DataGridView should have the same value for these two columns.So far, I have thought of two ways to get this working, but neither one seems very clean. The first idea is to make a custom Fill method that takes as parameters the user and the current date and then add them as extra columns in the select method. For example

i hve the follwoing code by which i bind the data to the grid the grid has 4 columns PRODUCTNAME, QTY,RATE, AMOUNT the user shld be able to edit the data in the column qty for as many rows it has but i m not able to edit this column how do i edit the values in the cells of column(1) ie qty?

I have a gridview loaded with two columns-one column(Name)is with some Text,another(Price) is empty.
I have got a TextBox with the data of Name and Price.
Now,I would like to loop through the Textbox,and see if the Data/symbols of the Column(Name) of GridView Control matches with the Data in Textbox.

The code below updates all cells in a DataGridView column to a value from a textbox. This code works in that all cells in the desired column are updated on screen. The DGC is bound to a dataset. The problem is that when I call the dataset .Update method, sometimes the first row (row 0) does not get updated. I have run SQL profiler and can see that no SQL update command is submitted for the first row. The first row only gets skipped the first time the update is run after launching the app. Subsequent updates run for all rows, until the app is re-launched.
I have verified the row state is Unchanged with: Msgbox(DataGridView1.Rows(r).State.ToString).
The 2 commented lines below are other things I have tried that still cause the first row to be skipped.

I have a DataGridView with SelectionMode = "CellSelect". I do this because I want the user to be able to click the Column Header and drag the column to a different DisplayIndex. They move the column by clicking and holding down the left mouse button, then moving the column. I also want the user to be able to click the column header and all the cells in the column would be selected. But if I change the SelectionMode property to "FullColumnSelect" or "ColumnHeaderSelect" the user can no longer move the column.In the code below, I can select all the cells in the DataGridView just fine, but I can't select all cells in a particular Column or Row. I searched for this topic and all the examples are in C# (and they have errors as they will not convert with a C# to VB converter). I am using VB.net 2005 and would like a sample that work for it. I have a loop that goes thru the DataGridView and changes the row color based on a column/cell value from the binded DataTable (shown below). I'd like to add to the loop (where the comment is) and also hide the button for this cell and let the "In Process" show in the cell instead.

I have a freshly initialized array that's being passed to a sub routine ByRef to be populated. The array is always empty when passed to the sub routine, which ReDims it as necessary.However, VS complains about this in a Warning:

The MySub routine populates both arrays. This Warning is meaningless because I very specifically want to pass the arrays to the sub routine BEFORE assigning values because those values will be assigned by the sub routine.Can I disable this type of Warning? No null reference exception will occur because that is being handled by the sub routine.
The LoadFrom() method takes the assembly filepath as its argument, but the filepath is merely providing the assembly identity information as a clue to the CLR. The LoadFrom() method still internally calls Load() with that identity information. So it is quite possible that LoadFrom(filepath) will load a totally different assembly from the one specified by the filepath. But the tame LoadFile() method will just load the assembly we specified.
I am wondering why do we need the LoadFrom() method? It adds nothing but confusion and pitfall. Is there any scenario that only LoadFrom() is applicable?
My main goal is to have an excel spreadsheet that automatically plots the overall success of my stock portfolio over time (% change over time). I've been able to incorporate stock data into my spreadsheet by linking it to the web, but the trouble is the spreadsheet will keep no history of what the previous stock values were, so I can't graph how things change over time. This sounds like it might be too complicated to be built in to excel, so I was wondering if anyone knew how to program this in Visual Basic. Maybe something like this.... If refresh then new cell plus new time stamp. Another possibility would be to have a whole bunch of cells that refresh only once but at longer and longer intervals, e.g.,

I have two text files, the first text file has two columns separated by a space (" ") and the second text file only has one column.
The column 1 in text file 1 and text file 2 match albeit in different order, what I'm trying to achieve is for every field in column 1 text file 2 I want to search for column 1 in text file 1 and display the matching column 2 field in column 2 text file 2.

VB GridView control will not allow code in the vb code file to access a data column that has its visible property set to false. When it is set to true, the data column can be accessed with no problem. Any suggestions as to how to correct this? I have looked through the documentation, text books, and I have not found anything that gave me any clue as to what the problem could be. I thought that the property was just applied to the column, not that it would remove the column from being accessible.
I am trying to placed several check boxes (15) in a group box or on a form. I receive the following error message in Visual Studio: Cannot set column, "The value violates the MaxLength limit of this column".
