I have a solution in which I have included three projects, say X Y Z..Now one of the projects X refers to the namespaces A.B.ObjectStore and another namespace ObjectStore..Now when the ObjectStore namespace is used the compiler thinks it is A.B.objectStore.I cant use a better qualifier as the one intended to be used is a plain ObjectStore only.

So here goes ... ]I have an old custom program (written in VB6) that opens a custom file type, but requires a qualifier in the command prior to the file name, similar to this:
myprogram.exe /i "myfile.seo"
The "/i" stands for "input file".
Back in Windows XP, I was able to make some very detailed changes to the file association for the ".SEO" file type, so that the "Open" action could contain this command:
myprogram.exe /i "%1"
The result was that I could click on any .SEO file and the filename would be substituted into the above command, in place of the %1. This did exactly what I needed.I have been unable to find a way to insert the command-qualifier "/i" into the file association in Windows 7.For a specific .SEO file, I can create a .BAT file, but that's a very limited 'solution'.
I'm designing a system to detect whether a projectile arc impacts a stationary square target. However, the detection is very limited and only seems to work if I use a while loop and a very large area, whereas if possible I'd prefer to animate it using a for loop and have the target somewhat smaller.Here's what I have at present:

I'm currently working on a VB .net project that requires connection to a MySQL table. I've no problems loading data from MySQL table to a datagridview. I'm hoping to allow users to make changes to the datagridview and save those changes back to the MySQL table. Below is the Sub I wrote to save the changes. Before saving, it will check if there were any changes made to the datatable. However, datatable.getchanges() does not seem to detect changes made to datagridview (and hence, datatable; I "bound" the datatable to datagridview by means of bindingsource).

I am using VB2010 and have a project set up with a DataGridView that is to display a table of data selected from a SQL 2008 database using a pre-defined dataset. My question is simply how to display the data in the intended format as seen in the attachment. I am attempting to merge rows in the first two columns of like-data. Addtionally, if that can be done, I would also like the user to be able to double-click on a name that would open an editing form.
View 5 RepliesI have a couple of shared methods in my app which are intended to be used with ObjectDataSource's (and other reflection based objects). They handle a lot of automatic parameter checking, filtering, etc. They are, however, all one time use methods (they rebuild everything on every call). It would be much better for someone writing code directly to call the instance methods so that all the filtering, etc, is stored between calls.Is there an attribute I can add to my methods to indicate this? The best would be if it would prevent the method from being called without reflection. Second best would be to issue a warning that the method is being used wrong.[code]

The Friend modifier appears to be an almost arbitrarily wide access level that was created to solve some historic architectural problem in VB, I just wonder if anyone has a meaningful continued use for it?
I have had some desires to expose methods only to a given namespace so as to roll the functionalities of a related collection of objects together and manage any of their non-thread-safe methods, while exposing the safe public methods to a wider scope in the same assembly. This access level does not exist yet Friend does. Possibly a corollary question then, is my usage of assemblies and namespaces at odds with what is intended?

I am currently reading up on documentation for a possible assignment I might be put on. In a design document they talk about the .exe.config file. They state that its only purpose is to store constants: "Also note that this file is meant to store constants only, it is not meant to write configuration values to (and the .NET 1.1. framework even prevents this by not offering classes/methods to do so). Therefore, configuration is written to XML files using a..."As far as I understand, this is not true. I don't know about .NET 1.1 preventing this, but I remember in my last project that I did write configuration values to that file (I saved GUI contents there). My project was a small prototype, so maybe I did it wrong, but I do not think so...So what is the intended purpose of this file?

How can this be so difficult and why? Returning simple XML with no Name Spaces and an XML decaration. Creating the XML using XML Writer is easily done and if I output it to a file then great. How on earth can you return the contents via WCF. Using an XML Element is no good as you loose the XML declaration and using a string is no good as the output is wrapped up in a <string> element. Can't return an XML Document as it can't be serialised.I know that there are many posts on this site, but none answer the question. View 4 RepliesI'm trying to use VB.NET to process a very large plain text file (2 GB). It is a database and has a field delimiter of SOH and a record delimiter of STX.
I want to separate the fields and records of the file.
I would normally read each line of a text file and then use the split function to separate out the fields. I can't use this approach as there isn't always a delimiter on every line.
Is there any way to read a file until STX is found (rather than one line at a time)?

Everything works as it should but when I load a saved quote it still comes up in xml format. I need to load a saved quote in a plain text format and I also want to be able to give the output file print functionality. I was thinking of making the output file a html file which opens up in a web browser, this of course already has print functionality, is this at all possible.

I'm writing a replacement for an old library we use at the office to communicate with a rather clumsy and old custom-made C++ framework that takes requests via sockets in order to communicate with a bunch of other systems. The problem is that it will only take plain text messages containing a string which must be formatted in a very specific way.The problem I'm facing is that I haven't found so far a way of sending plain text through the socket. The Send method of the socket will only take byte arrays, and while the listening point receives the data, it gets there completely scrambled, and there's no way I can mess with that in order to convert the byte array back to plain text. I am using Visual Studio 2008 Pro to create a web application in Visual Basic. This app takes the information filled in by a user and then sends it to various people. Some of these people get the email in HTML, the rest in plain text. However, whenever I use the code below to send the plain text email, when the email arrives in my Outlook 2010 Inbox it is completely blank. If I leave the code alone and change only .IsBodyHTML from False to True, it works (it sends the email formatted for HTML).[code]Also, if I create an entirely new web app, using only this code, it sends the email correctly as plain text.

I've added reference to Flash object. Then dragged AxMacromediaFlash to form. [renamed Flash1]. Even after setting Flash1.Movie="file.swf".
it doesn't start playing ! I tried, loadMovie,Play,MovieData etc etc.. nothing works. There's no error, no warning, nothing. That Flash object remains plain white. am not using try catch too. I'm on Vista Home Premium 32bit, Flash player 10, Flash ActiveX version 10. Tried re-installing player, activeX. its just not working! : any known issues am ignoring here? and same file works fine if I drag it in IE. and if I check Flash1's state, it shows playing.
Just like the notepad, it will not allow you to paste any picture in it, and it will convert all formatted text to plain text. It will not change the content of the clipboard, it just like a filter... Is there any way to do it in VB.NET?My program screenshot:
