Change The Delimiter When Writing Access Table To A Text File?
Nov 2, 2010
How can I change the delimiter when writing my Access table to a text file? I was hoping it would be as easy as adding a similar option like we do for HDR=No; maybe Delimiter=|
Dim AccessConn As New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=|DataDirectory|mydatabase.mdb")
AccessConn.Open()Dim AccessCommand As New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand("SELECT * INTO[Text;HDR=No;DATABASE=" & userPath & "].[" & fileName & "] FROM tblMyTable", AccessConn)
AccessCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
AccessConn.Close()

I've been doing some more experiments and have summarized the query as below: I've created the simplest application. A project with a plain form, which writes text file within its application directory. Simple as that.Supposing this was my application which I want to distribute on the world web. I've created a basic installer for this using NSIS installer. The Installer installs my application in a folder created inside Program Files. The OS is Windows7 and UAC is enabled.Now I know many people have been facing difficulties in accessing files inside the Program Files folder. My app is simply creating a plain text file, nothing more, and within its own application directory. It is giving Access Denied error. But if I right-click on the EXE and run it as Administrator, then it works ok.The only solution thats available is not to write in the application folder, and write text file in some other folder which is not protected. My question is that other programs that are installed on my system are also doing it. I have a temperature monitoring software called SpeedFan on my system, it creates log files within its app directory. All other softwares create log files within their app directories, why cant I?I just have to make a small log file for my application and Win7+UAC is not letting me do it. I don't want to write the small file in any other folder. How are the other softwares accomplishing this ?

I'm trying to use VB.NET to parse a very large plain text file (2 GB). It is a database and has a field delimiter of SOH and a record delimiter of STX. I want to separate the fields and records of the file.
I would normally read each line of a text file and then use the split function to separate out the fields. I can't use this approach as there isn't always a delimiter on every line.
Is there any way to read a file until STX is found (rather than one line at a time)?

I am wanting to write an application which opens a delimited text file (either comma, pipe, colon, semi colon) and displays the file on the form. The same feature is in Excel when you import a data file. After selecting the file it shows the contents and you can choose the delimiter. Once the delimiter is chosen the data shown reflects this and updates to show the correctly formatted data.

Alright, im trying to load a text file into a list box using a delimiter(sp?)I have 2 list box's lstFirstName and LstLastName I have the code to load it into a list box
r = New IO.StreamReader("c:\test.txt")
While (r.Peek() > -1)
lstFirstName.Items.Add(r.ReadLine)
End While
r.Close()
And at the moment this will just load the whole list box, how can I use a delimiter to split it up?So John Doe in the text pad will show up as lstFirstName: John lstLastName: Doe Sorry if im not all that clear, if you dont understand I will try to explain it clearer.

I'm using the following code to import data from a text file into an existing Access table:
Code:
Imports System.Data.OleDb
Public Class Carrega_CSV
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
[Code]....
The first time i ran the code, it caused no error but no records where loaded into the table. The second time it causes the OleDbException "Table 'TEMP' already exists." The text file is comma delimited and it has exactly the same number of columns of the TEMP table.

What i've written opens an Access database and one can read and write into it (on a table called Journal)It does indeed work for newly made Access files. However it doesnt work with a specific Microsoft Access database (again .mdb) which was made with a very old Access, like Access 2000 or something.The error message is: Syntax error in INSERT INTO statement.Inside the zipped file below you will find the source code of the program, along with an access file that the program CAN read, and the one access file that i NEED the program to reed but it cannot!
To see what i mean run the program one, try to add a new line to the database. you get an error!now rename the Journal.mdb to "journal.bak.mdb. And the journal_working.mdb to Journal.mdb try to add a new line to the database again without altering the source code at all. it succeeds now!!
NOTE: the program can READ data from both files. but it CANT write data to the old access file
this is the code:
Dim cb As New OleDb.OleDbCommandBuilder(da)
Dim dsNewRow As DataRow
dsNewRow = ds.Tables("AddressBook").NewRow()
dsNewRow.Item(1) = txtFirstName.Text 'or .Item(1) =

I use Visual Basic in Access, and I have no problem writing data directly to a cell in a database table. But I can not figure out how to write the code for Visual Basic 2008. For example I would
use Me![cust_Cost] = 20 to input 20 in the database table.
I have purchased two different Books on Visual Basic 2008 and not one of them show how to input data manually.

Write a program that requests a color as input in a text box and then determines whether or not the color is in the text file. The program should use the Boolean-valued Function procedure IsCrayola that returns the value True if the color in the text box is a Crayola color.

I want to read a text file with unlike delimters into a collection.This is what the file looks like:
_Item 4916 0.00 781.21
_Item 2831 0.02 842.25
there are 10029 items and i am trying to get each items description into 3 different collections: Item "names" (first column), Item "weights"(second column), and Item "values"(third column).the delimiters are as follows:
______(3 spaces)____(1 space)____
considering the amount of items in the file, it would be a complete waste of time to edit it.

I have just recently been using VB 2010 after using VB5. I have noticed a lot of changes. The problem I have is that I wish to open and save text files to and from arrays in the background. I've attached what I would do in VB5. I have searched around, but all the examples I find use a Textbox instead of an array. Can anyone show me how I can do this with VB 2010?

I am attempting to gather a group of file names from a directory. I am able to do this. I tested the code by having the list populate into a listbox and all desired items were added to the list.
Here is my code:
Dim di As New IO.DirectoryInfo(strPath)
Dim dir1 As IO.FileInfo() = di.GetFiles("*.txt")
Dim dFiles As IO.FileInfo
ListBox.Items.Add(dFiles)
However, a listbox is not my desired output. I am attempting to write these file names to a text file for purposes of then parsing the information to a datatable to compare with another datatable. How to get my filenames written to a textfile.

We have some information that we need to write (about 18KB) to a .txt file stored in one of our network drives. The file is re-written about once every 15 minutes but is read practically at least every second. We are currently using StreamWriter to write file.The file server is in remote location and the round trip ping varies from <1ms to 15ms.
The problem is, sometimes it takes as long as 6 seconds to write the contents to the file, which is definitely way too long even after we take consideration of the network speed. therefore, I am just wondering if there is any efficient way to write the file using VB.Net to improve the performance? Java has a very good tool named BufferedOutputStream, which unfortunately is not available in VB.Net (or I just have not found it).
