the problem is ra = 0 mean no insertion made I can't figure it out!

Teh table only contains these 4 fields and another field which is an automatically generated number called nbrQuoteID .All of the fields are number fields but I have tried sending them as text to see if it made a difference (Threw up an error) but it didn't.

View 3 RepliesI have been following a tutorial in a book Vb 2005 Jumpstart Ch 4..Anyway I have followed the books code exactly and the program runs.It connects to Amazons web service and allows the user to search and display books, the application also allows the user to save the titles that they wish by clicking an Add Title button, when the user does this the current focus title is saved to the database and can be viewed off line.When I hit the add title the record gets saved as I can hit the catalog button which opens a new form with a datagrid that has all the titles I just saved in it!! But when I close the app and run it again the catalog is gone?? back to no records again?Now ive never worked with SQL databases before and this is me just having a go at .Net so I have no idea whats wrong or where to look.[code]

I want to insert records in the database but before it inserts, it must first check the database whether the value being inserted already exists. Now my problem is that I am unable to insert into the database even though the value still does not exist.

there are two computer connect to one shared database one of the user (user1) will insert new record then the records in (datagridview) of the user (user1) who insert the record will be 11 record but the(datagridview) of other user (user2) will still have 10 record.what the possible way that may allow me to refresh the records..Also how I can make a new record in datagridview of the user2 can be colored by yellow or red back color.

If you're username/email address already registered,it would inform you that youre username/email is already registered and the site would ask you to change your username/email to new ones.The difference in my system is that i have 2 datagridviewcheckbox columns not just textboxes . I have a problem with my program, and it's really bad because I need to burn it to disk within 12 hours and I can't get it to work: If I create a record, add information to it and click on Next Record, the ID, Status and Notes boxes content will change but the rest of the controls contents are carried over to the next record and I don't know why or how. It was working perfectly but now it stopped and I never done anything.

View 1 RepliesI am a ASP Classic Programmer, professionally for a little over a year, I have developed some rather nice sites, including the one in my signature (Still a work in progress).
I have been forced to use ASP.NET (VB) for a FileUpload control, as it offers a self controlled way of creating Thumbnails, without the use of 3rd party controls, which is great, as my hosting server does not allow for 3rd party installs on their servers.
So.
The code below is what I have so far for connecting to the database and displaying a record is the "cookie" exist on the users computer.
Unfortunantly, this is not working, and to be honest with you, their is not a whole lot of resources available to show how to do this correctly.
So I am stuck with a lot of post and hoping that someone can actually assist me with this and tell me what I am doing wrong and maybe correct my code.
I am getting an error about the "Connection is closed"
If you want to re-write my code, I prefer something simple and basic, as the only thing that I am doing to checking rather the user is logged in, and if so, display a record from the database. I am NOT in the need for the DataGrid, so please do not suggest it, as I am only needing to check this one thing.
I would like to also add, that I have successfully contect to my database with the FileUpload control and save file names of the images uploaded, so I know that my connection string is done properly> But, for some reason the "SELECT" statement is causing a HUGE issue. (It was easier to insert, than to select, I am not use to that)

I have this form that acts as a patient history form, so when I click the "New record" button I want the form to be ready for new input and for it to save the data when I'm done. I also need a button to delete records, but I am completely terrible with databases so I have no idea what I need to do to add records. I assume I can just have the form clear to be ready for the input but I don't know how to get it to save the data.
The whole thing works in Access but I guess that's older VB or something, they were using the acRecord to be able to cycle through all the records of the database. What is VB.net's equivalent?

while the navigation and updating is working
i cannot seem to get insertion working, as well[code]...
when i press add, i get a new empty record, when i fill it in, i see that the collection sees it, as there is an onform listbox showing the profiles, and it gets listed there, so its actually attached to the list, but the savechanges command does not insert it into the db
there may be some validation errors upon insert, but then i would get some indication, right? now its just silently failing. as if i never tied to commit changes
