Connect To Servers On Domain And Run Batch File?

Nov 1, 2011

I'm working on a little script to automate tasks across 12 servers, that are all on the same domain and have a similar setup. The tasks are to create a new folder, to then copy contents off the network into it, and to create a virtual directory in IIS 6 pointing to it. Ideally I'd like to log errors but that's a later concern. My approach was to write a VB Script to connect to WMI on each server in an array, then use it to run off a batch file. While the VBS works if I tell it to create a folder directly, it does not run (any part of) the batch file, nor give me any errors.[code]...

Deleting A File Or Folder On Multiple Servers From A List Of Servers?

I don't really know how to code but am pretty good at tweaking. I'm trying to set up a script that I can run to delete a single file, multiple files, a folder or multiple folders on a list of servers.I was thinking that the script could read the files to be deleted from a .txt file and apply the deletion to a list of servers in another .txt file.Example:

FilesToBeDeleted.txt:
\(insert_server_name_from_list)c$Program FilesBINexample_file.rpt

Communications :: Multi Client - Single Server ?

Mar 21, 2010

Developing an application that will serve as an application server (Similar to 'Run Advertised Program' that is present in Windows Server). The downside to using Microsofts current system is that it a) requires Windows Server and b) Works only with systems setup in a proper Domain. I have a number of systems in my house and I'm fed up of downloading from the net or setting up network drives etc etc. I've tried using the code in a similar topic posted a few threads down, but it obviously doesn't support multiple client connections.

VB IRC Client - WriteStream Only Displays Single Word In IRC?

Nov 16, 2010

I have been writing an ever so simple IRC client in visual basic. I have a niggly issue whereby when I am writing to the network stream. On other clients my message cuts off after the first space character. I'm sure this is something simple as the messages are being sent, receiving is fine and debugging the issue it wherever I read the message (i.e. if I debug.print the message being written to the stream it still includes all the words and spaces.) Here is my code.

.Net Desktop Client Cant Connect To Offsite Webservice?

Aug 6, 2010

I have written a vb.net app that runs in multiple hospital networks. THe vb client periodically contacts a off-site webservice for datatransfers.The issue I am getting at a particular hospital is that the client PC's are not on the hospital's domain. So they are sort of off the radar. They do use the hospital network for internet access. When the user opens a web browser they are asked for domain

userid and password. If not are provided then they cannot proceed. What do I need to do with my vb.net code to make the webserver calls prompt for and use the proper domain user id and password?

OP3 Client To Connect To Gmail And Download Messages

May 10, 2012

I am using Peter Huber's POP3 client to connect to gmail and download messages.The inboxes being accessed are transactional inboxes used only for code-access. That is, a message comes in with a order file attached, code will process it and then delete the message. One stipulation of the code though was a DEBUG flag, which if set would prevent the code from deleting the message so that you can run the program again later without the debug flag and reprocess the message. So, in my code I have If Not Arguments.Debug Then pop.DeleteEmail(eid)

This works fine. Problem is, even when not deleting the message, running the program a second time will not re-retrieve the message, even though if I login to gmail and look at the inbox, it is still there. The only way I can get the program to see the message again is to forward the message back to the same inbox. But in Peter's code I do not see anywhere where he is keeping track of seen messages between sessions.

Is this something that is done on gmail's end? Refusing to deliver a message to the same client a second time? If so, is there any way I can change my gmail account so that it will always show all messages in the inbox to a client when retrieving the list of messages, even ones already "seen"? I don't see anything in the gmail settings screen.adding a method to send a RSET command to the server, as per this comment on the codeproject page.

DB/Reporting :: Connect Database In Server From A Client Computer?

Feb 24, 2008

I wrote a program in VB2005. It is a program that is supposed to run in a client computer accessing an MS Access .mdb file stored in the server. The program itself is stored and run in the clients computer. I am not good in networking at all. The way I do it now is:

1. Have a directory made in the server to hold the MS Access .mdb file, and have the directory to be shared.

2. Have the same directory accessed and mapped in the client computer (say to Z:)

3. Then have the program in the client computer simply access the database as if it is in the same computer (as the directory already mapped into the client computer). In the VB 2005, this is done when we set the connection string of the database connection.

However, my user is complaining that by doing so, the database is basically exposed to the operator of the client computer (through the mapped directory), hence more vunerable for any bad intentions from persons who may have access to the client computer but not the server. He insists that he used to have a program that does exactly the same thing like my program, but the database is shielded in the server, where it cannot be seen in the client computer (I have other people who confirm that this can be done, though they can't tell me how, since they are not programmers themselves). Now, I have no idea on how to connect a database that way, and I don't even know where to start looking.

LINQ Return Single Type Of Object Invalid Cast

Jun 29, 2010

Ok, just needing a 2nd set of eyes looking at this to make sure the error isn't something else other than my LINQ code here. Here's the function class itself:

Public Function GetJacketByPolicyID(ByVal jacketID As Int32) As tblPolicy
Dim db As New DEVDataContext()
Dim j As tblPolicy = db.tblPolicies.Single(Function(p) p.policyNumber = jacketID)
Return j
End Function

and here is the code which calls this class function in the web control form itself:

Dim p As tblPolicy
Dim j As New Jackets()
p = j.GetJacketByPolicyID(3000050)

For some reason it's flagging the 2nd line in the GetJacketByPolicyID function saying the specified cast is not valid. So I'm guessing it's something I'm doing wrong. I'm sure the tblPolicy/tblPolicies class works right since I can create a new instance of a tblPolicy and set a few variables by hand and return it, so that's not it. I've also checked the datarow I'm fetching and there's no null values in the record, so that shouldn't be it either.
